Izzit too late to add in the proud owner list of n80? I just got my black n80 this week.

why cant i update from my firmware from 4.0632.0.38 to the newer version? it says it does not hv a newer version of firmware when indeed theres 1? how now how now?

guys, my N80 that i bought July 2006 has a problem now. When i make calls or receive calls, the earpiece/headset on the phone doesnt emit sound. At first i keep thinking network failure, cant call out or something. Keep trying to call back my fren, but evytime sort of like fail. Then my fren sms me ask y call but didnt talk. The problem is i didnt even hear da ringing tone sound.

Then i try loud speaker mode. Can work in loudspeaker mode. My fren can hear me loud and clear. Means that i can confirm the mic and speaker are working. its just da headset that transmit sound is da one that has problem.

I also tried using the handsfree that came wif the phone. Handfree work as well. SMS and other function of da phone is ok.

Any of you guys experience this b4? Any remedy?

Too bad my warranty expired alredi, if not i'll just send it to Nokia Center but for now im thinking of hard reset da phone and c whether can fix b4 send to repair. But only after i get/or dun get any solution from you guys first. Its not a major problem cos still can use loudspeaker mode to talk but kinda annoying mah.

Pls help, N80 sifus.

Is every nokia center capable of fixing the phone?

it is not a matter of knocking or dropping, being a slider itself is already a guaranteed that it'll fail sooner than those model that doesn't use ribbon, cause theres wear and tear everytime u slide it up and down. anyway, i've seen the whole process of replacing the ribbon(my own phone), and it can be done in matters of 30 minutes max, so its definitely possible to replace it within 1 day, it all depends on how efficient is the service centre.. i have mine replaced by my brother's staff, including tightening of the whole slider mechanism(by bending a small metal piece that grips between the upper piece of N80 and lower piece of N80), now the whole sliding feels more solid, not loose like before..

Bro Kevin, how much u fixed ur ribbon problem? Is ur bro's staff wif Nokia Service Center? If dun mind, can tell me da place and name of da person in charge of service?

By da way, do i need to backup my phone b4 sending it in?

i got mine fixed at cost price(only the ribbon cost), which i cannot disclose here.. my bro is the owner of a HP shop, not related to nokia service centre..
and no backup needed, all data should still be intact after the ribbon being replaced. but it doesnt hurt to backup also if u're worry..

oh crap oh crap.. im experiencing the same problem here!!
sometimes ok sometimes white screen..
then the phone abit lag lag..
so its the ribbon problem la?
wah... even the menu button press oso cannot ar...

btw.. is the phone prone to viruses when surfing the net using wifi?

white screen confirmed is ribbon issue.. i replaced my ribbon last time because of white screen also..

It kindda late for me but just get myself a N80. Looking for a bit old but good 3G phone with WiFi abilities. Planning on using it as 3G modem for my notebook. Glad to have so many info here.

have this question bugging me very long d....when i charge my n80 i need to put a book or something below the charger pin where it connects the phone. if i dont it wont charge. izzit the phone? the charger? the cable? or something else? or izzit all the n80 also like this?? my dad uses a ciplak nokia phone that can share the same charger also dun have this problem.....tak boleh tahan my dad kutuk my n80...sakit hati >.<

probably your phone's charger pin is damaged already.. never had this problem..
