It's been confirmed with an interview with Tetsuya Nomura that the battle system will be something different than the original. And I quote:

"it would look silly to have new versions of cloud and Barrett jump forward to attack and then jump back to wait for their next turns"

In my personal opinion if they can make it so that battles transition in real time into an 'arena' something like Star Ocean with action or even the Tales series I would be a very happy man.

ugh. please no turn based crap. we need to get on with the times. Turn based games are what killed the jrpg genre

Oh come on.. of coz not now but turn-based games are what its famous for JRPG in PS1 era.
Its fun though.

It used to be good for Gust games. If u played Ar Tonelico Series, it was good.

Not now but used to until people prefer ARPG, Action type RPG like Dot Hack series, Kingdom Hearts.

I'll have to agree. This is JRPG style of gaming. That's why I love JRPG game. We can see those few action based rpg like Final Fantasy 13, 13-2, lightning returns, all revenues are quite bad compare with FF10, FF9, FF8 and even FF7. You can see ever since they change it to action based, the sales started to drop. Although FF12 is not that bad in terms of the semi action based.

Its not entirely saying that action based is sux, it's good yo, action packed, make you feel more adrenaline. but somehow, we just do not feel that we are gaming. Like the FF13, I almost all the way spam clicking auto instead of choosing abilities and yet I can finish the game. Unlike FF7 ( or 8,- 10 ), you have magic, materia setting, summon. More creative way to fight against enemy. But for FF13 onwards. We need to libra it, then rely on CPU teammates to cast correct spell. Hope u all know what i meant.

If they want to make action based. Please don't make it like FF13, I can guarantee it will be a big failure. Like FF15? Can't really comment cause we haven't even tried playing it. I remember last time before FF13 released, everyone saw the battle system is like. Wow so nice... so action.. But after touching it, feels abit lack of something in battle system. No materia, summon also limited. Equipment also limited.

Agreed, and i like the way of ff10 battle system, even if u play half way and go toilet without pausing it also no problem, i play every ff series start from 7, somehow in my opinion, ff10 is the climate among all the ff series. Unfortunately, ff12 and Ff13 (even worse) are too sucks, i feel like the game is playing me instead of i playing the game, keep walking, jump and hit monster make the game long alamak... Really hope square dont change too much from the classic ff7 ATB system.
