Yup, as expected squeenix just confirmed that FFVIIR is being developed on UE4. Those shaders were too obvious.
They would probably use havok as the middleware for physics too I think. Kinda comical to pre bake everything now a days.
EDIT:
As for story, squeenix just said that each part will be equivalent to a full sized game, and
each entry will have its own unique story. Pretty much confirms that there will be a Zack story entry. As for full sized game, lol... as long as they don't make it as grundy as the snore fest known as FFXIII saga, I'm cool with it.
Man, Square is really on a roll this year when it comes to making public statements. Good for them and their company's value
My thoughts from all this hoo-hah:
1) VII-R using UE4 engine means much much sooner release date(s) than previously predicted.
2) This "multi-part" structure is good and bad news for us fans.
Good: Square making good on their word about VII-R not just being a remaster. More VII content is always good and seeing that Nomura also left FFXV as director to direct this boosts its potential...story-wise at least. Also I think that the 1st "part" is already 40% completed and that the other parts have already a back bone and playable vertical slices.
Bad: More content means longer a waiting time in-between "parts" and potential cliff-hanger/potong stim moments.
3) Assuming all of the above to be true, Square now has a dilemma for release dates of XV and VII-R I. It would be suicidal to release both within an interval of 6 months. Not to mention 2 core FF titles within a YEAR!? XV should be released in Q4 '16 and Square can play out the situation then for the release date of VII-R I.
Having said all that, Square might still surprise us releasing both XV and VII-R I within an interval 6 months. Else, if everything I assumed turns out to be pure fantasy, waiting 2 more years for VII-R I and 2 more years in between subsequent "parts" would just be too long of a wait to keep me interested in VII.
