Actually the timing of sunset similar to M'sia since located almost on the same longitude but different timing..If M'sia dark at 7:30pm (Normally is the case) so does Bangkok..dark at 6:30pm due to the time differences. biggrin.gif

i still dont understand time zones..... the whole of china is one time zone loh. same as malaysia time.

oh well.

anywyas back to topic. melways is the best map. and its expensive too. so for all the students that are looking to buy it. if you can get a second hand one. or one from a year back or something you should be good. i think new one is near to AUD$40+ but the clearance from the previous year should be like 20-30. i got mine free from my cuz in melbourne. it was the 1997 edition doh.gif hahahaha. but still worked great. hardly any of the roads changed. so i dont think you should be too worried about forking out for the latest and greatest.

Haha..M'sia & Singapore time zone was changed to the current time~ 1977. Rumours saying to follow Hong Kong Stock xhange..I remenbered Hussein Onn announced on my father's black & white TV bck then....That time also the start of TV1 & TV2 in colour..Well if u ask me, Thailand time should be the correct timing & not the current timing...Imagine other countries, sun rise ~6-6:30am & sunset ~6-6:30pm & M'sia 7:30am & 7:30pm respectively!

OK back to topic, for maps, normally I use GPS maps freely available from mapcenter (Google for Garmin mapcenter Bangkok)..otherwise, refer to wikimapia/google earth for itineraries planning.

the sunset thinggy actually similar with malaysia...n yes...cant confirm...
it depends which part of the year...(dont compare with real time)
example KL 6:30 sunset(kl time), bkk 6:30 sunset(BKK time)
not kl 6:30 sunset(kl time), bkk 6:30 sunset(KL TIME)

no, no, nothing like rape. and its not that girls don't go on sukhumvit at night, but when it gets dark on sukhumvit
almost every woman hanging around on sukhumvit is a 'working girl'

you could check it out, just don't wear a skirt if you're going in to soi 4 (nana tai), i've seen foreign guys lifting skirts
at random to check for 'quality'. it doesn't happen often, but it does happen especially at 12 - 2am when everyone is
a little drunk or high on kancha

you can go to sukhumvit just dont look sleazy, although it would help having a guy around. tongue.gif otherwise they might be chatty with you.

i had a thai friend looked a bit slutty so embarrassing loh. the guards at the apartment always smiling at me like "you go get it man!" ehhhh. malu gile. ahhh thai and their booming sex trade.

man anything can happen in bangkok, i once saw an obese falang slappin a tiny thai lady. stuff like these usually get him beaten up
i didn't stick around to see what happened to him though

but you're right about falang guys going with the ugliest women, the falang would look okay, not ugly not handsome but still he goes
with the ugliest, just cannot imagine what is happening.

yeah, don't look sleazy otherwise they'll think you're a working girl and all

yeah i've experienced those funky looks from the guards and all. the face thing is really important to thais, you'll find some of the good
girls reluctant to go to certain places on sukhumvit when its at night.

First time visitors to thailand, take note that to Wai is like shaking hands. Don't Wai strangers and definitely do not Wai the waiters,
waitresses, bell boy, receptionists.

There are a lot of social rules associated with the act of Wai-ing, like for example people of lower social rank usually Wai those of higher
ranks first and things like that. Foreigners like you and me are exempted from Wai-ing, so try not to Wai.

i think its ok lah to do the wai thing. its like a handshake. some one put there hand out and you put yours out also right. heheh. but you dont have to do it all the time. like to waiters and all you dont need to . but to people like tourist guide and stuff you can because you will be spending time with them. up to you really. i doubt they will be like "he didnt wai me. imma gonna kick his a$$!"
