OK, placed FD in MBSB for 18 mth 4.5%. Interest only credited on maturity. It is an Islamic FD. Withdrawal can be done through cheque or IBG to other bank accounts. All transaction has to be done OTC as no online banking system. Good thing is FD start date today though I used a CB personal cheque.

No online account available. I am the kind that prefer to see and check my FD accounts online. Since no interest crediting and no online account so decided not to open any SA at the moment. The CS staff said they are working towards "more like banks" and may have the online account set-up later (after I asked why no online account for MBSB).

Got free parking but NOT from MBSB. CB and MBSB branch is next to each other. I went in to CB to do some business and got stamped free parking (for PB customer).

Gift wise just got a mug. The CS claimed that they run out of gifts. Car shade (mentioned by Ah Boom) has finished. CNY and Raya they have hamper and gift but only for top 10 customers. Nego rate for 500k and above placement but for short term only. Did not clarify on the short term.

When I first saw the advert on the Star, was kind of excited with the 5.8% ! Then did my own calculation of 4.13% before I saw the small print there on the effective rate.

Then ended my decision and stays with MBSB for Friday FD placement. Still have to get used to MBSB as a different type of institution, maybe more like KFH. But KFH issue free debit card while MBSB no debit card.

Ya la, BR all bumiputra there. MBSB Penang branch saw 3 races there. MBSB CS lady is an Indian who worked there for 32 years ! She told me MBSB is working towards banking institution with online banking facilities. When, no idea !

For online banking it is good when receiving interest like 6 mth interest for the 5 yrs placement in MBSB. BR wise the monthly interest definitely is MUCH easier with online ibg. Imagine if not have to go there more often to collect the interest.

For 3 years straight have received hampers from BR but did not have the same issue as the cards were general in theme and diff branch have diff hampers given out. But low value in general.

The high tea and Raya functions most attendee are Chinese (in Penang). Most uncle and unties who looks for higher interest rates.

MBB last year 1 yr 4% with FD interest upfront is maturing. They may be trying to hold on to some of their customers. Mine is due on 1/10.

MBSB's 18 mth 4.5% is the best so far for 1year or more tenure. I may place more later unless other banks have better offer.

My 3rd SCB 15 mth 4.5% FD received 6th month interest today, good ! Free IBFT again !

Funny thing is 1st one automatically goes to JustOne CA. Second one after asking RM goes to JustOne SA. Third one auto goes to SA also.

Affin also the same. Not allowed to combine cash and cheque for FD. I ended using that cash for makan makan, skipped using for CD.

The Affin branch told me each separate payment method will be tracked separately thus cannot combine cash and cheque for FD. You lucky soul. This showed diff. SOP even within same banks !

How about RHB as gsc reported ? I did not encounter in RHB but that is because I never used cash to combine with cheque. I remember there is another bank that told me the same thing before but cannot remember the name. Most of the time I used cheque or cash in bank for FD placement. Seldom combine cash in hand and cheque for FD placement.
