I am currently working as a system administrator. Getting bored with my job because my boss thought that every task given is easy. I am working in a multimedia company with IT/Multimedia background. I have the same problem with u in which the boss like to give horrible deadline, anyway it is possible to achieve but need to work overtime/overnight.

Most of the time, I have delayed the project myself due to the fact that I can't get the job done within the given time period.

Last, I can't tell your feeling because my boss doesn't have any IT background, pure business sense homosapien. They keep talkin and criticize behind and you keep on workin in front.

I'm also under a 6 months probation and this is my 5th month. Seriosly, I get rm 1800 too. I think it's time to seek for other job because you have been a water fish for the company. Stay back if you want the exposure or resign.

Just to let u know, I got a new task from my supervisor an hour ago. The task look like this, now I have to get someone open up the cupboard by end of the day and deliver it to Penang by tomorrow for them to do video shooting. Why ask someone open up the cupboard you might ask, because the key is with the boss and they are now at Penang. Sound interesting isn't it? rclxms.gif

Ok, I can describe this to you in detail but lets cut it short since I'm at work. Yes, what others wrote is true, the best words to describe it is ONE LEG KICK means you have to do everything.

For me, I worked in a freight, warehouse, shipping company. My jobscope include:
Hardware maintenance
Software training
Analyze business requirement for third party software developer
Remote installation and administration of other sites
Repair and picture transfer of digicam
Fix and learn and teach boss how to use PDA
Analyze where optimal place for CCTV camera installation
Fix printers, scanners, drives, cctv, servers, pc, digicam, fax machine, pabx keyphone system, etc.
Sometimes become driver to send boss to bank or even collect cheque from places like Bangi, Sri Kembangan, KL, etc while our HQ is located in Port Klang.

Exactly the same feeling here pal, being an IT techie for almost 2 years now. And I am getting bored and sick of this IT position and is considering other field. Being the IT guy in here lots of people respect you in the beginning, and they expect you to know EVERYTHING related in IT, and if you cant deliver what they want, back stabbing will occur. Instead of putting the request to you they straight away forward the request/complaints to your boss. And in the fresh Monday morning before you even finish your breakfast coffee you boss called and skrew you and you dont know anything until you read your boss forwarded email.

This kind of life style, skrew it, not for me, I am quitting.

My starting is also RM1800 and the probation period is one freaking year aka 12 months, guess this is the longest probation period in the industry. More importantly, when your pay increase in this kind of level your stress also increase geometrically.

I heard IT ppl from oil and gas company like SHELL got 3 times increment per year. Maybe the reason why their salary hike so fast.

For me, I have been in IT for almost 2 years. Actually the IT job is quite boring, when u have learn and do the same things everyday.

Unless, the things that you been responsible is keep changing....u know...hardware and software keep updated with the new version...and u had to explore it with vendor and so on.

Without this, it's meaningless to stay in IT for so many years.

I know your feeling, many ppl like you, need months to do any thing(like project in college, even better if there are a team for a small task). Or simply say donno donno, not my business or busy busy. Simply work because of the salary, better nothing to do and ends everyday. Try join a software house and you will know several days can do alot of things, I have seen ppl format & setup a pc took days, and ppl who only need minites(unplug hdd, direct copy from another pc). It really depends on you how your work can be done, try improve your time management, alot of things can be done in short amount of time or multitasking. OMG u are bored and u are just graduate, why ? cause you only do things ppl expect from you, and you do with their minimum requirement, you do not have your minimum requirement, your boss gives you min 40, u submit 41. How about try to gives like 80 ? Do extra with no extra bonus, no extra salary but extra work time or working hours ? Yeah, this may sound stupid, but you will benefits from it, plz remember you are just guaduated, that doesnt means u have all the skill and knowledge, u just qualified, many ppl can replaced you, to company you are expenses, try make youself an asset.

Im programmer for 6 years, unable to find any IT job in non IT company, i think mainly is because they unable to pay my salary. I wanted to join some non-IT company is because I feel since I have the knowledge, and technology in my brain, I can do alot of thing, computerize the entire company, make it paperless etc. But a non IT company wont hired a ppl for that, cause many company in Malaysia do not understand IT, they tought non-IT company has nothing to do with IT. So I was planning to join the company, do things like you, but I spend extra time in learning the company structure/culture, and slowly try to upgrade the company and computerize everything(and systematic) and everybody's life easy.

Think this way, if, i means IF your company is losing money and needs to cut cost, reduce ppl, who u think will be sacrifice(haha yeah, sac !) 1st ? Those ppl who help them made profit ? ppl who help them save money ? or ppl who help them use money ? Maybe your department cant made money, at least help your company to save money, maintain customer, secure information, propose idea, etc. Dude, trust me, your life will be happier if you have a target in your heart, and wanted to achieve, compare to a target ppl gives you and expect mimimum from you.
