Ok, I can describe this to you in detail but lets cut it short since I'm at work. Yes, what others wrote is true, the best words to describe it is ONE LEG KICK means you have to do everything.
For me, I worked in a freight, warehouse, shipping company. My jobscope include: Hardware maintenance Software training Analyze business requirement for third party software developer Remote installation and administration of other sites Repair and picture transfer of digicam Fix and learn and teach boss how to use PDA Analyze where optimal place for CCTV camera installation Fix printers, scanners, drives, cctv, servers, pc, digicam, fax machine, pabx keyphone system, etc. Sometimes become driver to send boss to bank or even collect cheque from places like Bangi, Sri Kembangan, KL, etc while our HQ is located in Port Klang.

QUOTE(bryon @ Oct 31 2006, 12:41 PM) is he in programming/it support/network? He does all three but at his work, he is mainly support. He is good with programming also but networking, not so much I guess - nobody is perfect afterall. QUOTE(Mavik @ Oct 31 2006, 07:27 PM) It depends, you might end up as a contract staff rather then being a permanent staff if you read the other posts here whereby some people are only offered contractual positions at Shell. Even if you are contractual, you can still be a permanent staff if you pass their assessment. My friend got in as permanent after his first try. But most that I know starts as contractual > permanent. This post has been edited by Pennywise: Nov 1 2006, 10:49 AM

All companies need Accountants also what... A lot of people knows no shit about IT. Some people can even brag when they only know a little about MCSE and CCNA and all the other buyable professional certifications.
When it comes to working, it all boils down to how you handle situation and how you deal with people.

QUOTE(rexis @ Nov 2 2006, 09:26 AM) So, IT dept of non IT company is playing a similar role of the cleaning department or estate dept(handyman) as well. Support support support, and make the staff happier and works faster. We are barely a bunch of high tech high paid(in HR prospective) slaves. Which is far from high paid. Basically yes, IT dept or IT personnel on non-IT company are just supporting roles. How should I put this? Supporting roles are important too. Without you, they'd die as well. Its like how you play an online game. Example: Ragnarok Online. Do you think a Knight can tank Osiris without his Priest friend? Impossible, right? Well, just look at it that way and you can see the pict.

QUOTE(adrianocy @ Nov 2 2006, 12:18 PM) they will not value this way...oni when they need da things, they wil jump on you. they wont see da big picture...they rather waste 500k for a BMW than invest in a backup server rm30k as they cant see it in front of their eyes Trust me I know exactly how it feels. Thats why even after 4 months of resignation, my old company still call me up to ask about AD, Exchange, etc... 4 MONTHS!!!!!?!!?!
