I am from engineering for 6 years almost. Planning to switch to banking line. Heard most easiest is taking cfa comparing to taking new degree for 4 years as cfa can take part time basis and study at home.

Can any sifu give more advice

if you want cheaper (but also effective) alternative, look up for Mark Meldrum or Arif Irfanullah videos.

you can just study with their videos.

Is taking CFA worthwhile if you already have a CIMA/ACCA? ACCA and CIMA is more focused on financial accounting, management accounting, tax and audit. CFA is more investment oriented.

Would CFA provide me with a better marketability in terms of career?

Any advise before I really enroll into CFA?

Thanks.

CFA is on a different league as compared to all other accounting qualifications.

My advise is, if you were to enroll, forget everything you think you know about accounting, and enter the class with an empty cup.

Because CFA's accounting is so much difficult as compared to what was offered by ACCA.

Cfa is more to equity research and fund management. Unless, u entering the above-mentioned industries, u can no need to take cfa.

Interviewer will *zha* u with above usually, so u need to know how to bull la.

I have both.

CFA requires a deep understanding of both IFRS and US GAAP, while ACCA needs you to understand IFRS only.

For example, both CFA and ACCA need you to understand consolidation. But CFA takes it a step further.

Imagine you need to differentiate the implication of consolidation in both US GAAP and IFRS, and what is the end result (ratios) if different methods (FVTPL,FVOCI, AC) are used.

Yea, we practice double standard in CFA biggrin.gif

Thank for your insights. However, what if you are not working in such industries such as investments banking, insurance company etc. Would CFA be worthless? Is it an advantage to have in

1. in personal capacity?
2. upper managements roles?

Thanks.

Nneed some confirmation here
Hope someone solve my questions here

1) Do CFA have any pre requisites there?
Can i do it if i have only Diploma in ICT (Information communication technology)?
From what i heard from my friend, he told me CFA lvl1 have no pre requisites as long as
- You can put in effort
- You can read and analyse well
- You knows english and maths
Is this True?

2) So the process goes on by paying the fee, buy and access the study material for level 1, there are only 2 exam per year for lvl 1 right?
For example, if i were into the exam in lets say December. But i am not free during that time, can i take the next Exam??

3) If i were into fund manager, financial analyst, CFA would definitely be the choice for me?

4) Any other thing i should take note here? Well, am 24 this year, no full time job, Income mainly from trading and some through freelance work. So i would have quite some time to do my own self study

You must be in the Final Year of your Bachelor Degree to take Lvl 1 (OR you have minimum four years full time working experience in any field).

For Level 2 and 3, you must have completed your degree (or equivalent), OR have 4 years full time working experience.

From what i heard from my friend, he told me CFA lvl1 have no pre requisites as long as
- You can put in effort
- You can read and analyse well
- You knows english and maths

Once you have paid for the exam fee, it is not refundable, so decide before you enroo for exam.

3) If i were into fund manager, financial analyst, CFA would definitely be the choice for me?

Yes

4) Any other thing i should take note here? Well, am 24 this year, no full time job, Income mainly from trading and some through freelance work. So i would have quite some time to do my own self study

Be consistent in your studies. Don't leave your studies to the last minute. While Level 1 is doable for most, it gets harder once you reach Level 2 and 3.
