I guess i find engineering a bit too dry and I'm trying to find ways to upgrade my skills, whatever it is as I'm willing to try new things.

Instead of staying in engineering, I'm toying with the idea of moving out from it and CFA came to mind. I find it interesting when i invest in markets, read analyst reports and follow monetary policies etc... should i even explore CFA in the first place? Any feedback would be great! smile.gif

I’m planning to pursue mba after 5 years of working in engineering field.

Which one is worthy? Taking mba or cfa

Well we do have our own papers that we can take, that would give us designations. But beyond that if you want to move up the upper level management, won’t having more qualifications help?

CFA would only be useful if your end goal is to be a portfolio manager.
MBA would only be useful if it's from a top uni (think M7, LBS, INSEAD, etc..).

My 2 cents confused.gif .

I am from engineering for 6 years almost. Planning to switch to banking line. Heard most easiest is taking cfa comparing to taking new degree for 4 years as cfa can take part time basis and study at home.

Can any sifu give more advice

cfa is low barrier of entry, high attrition rate.
degree is high barrier of entry, low attrition rate.
even thou cfa can take part time, only fewer than 30% of the candidate will pass all 3 papers.
if u retake it will eventually take as many, if not more years to complete it compared to degree.

You must have a degree first to undertake US paper such as CFA. You don’t need a degree to undertake UK papers such as ACCA / CIMA.

If you want to forego degree altogether, you can start with ACCA / CIMA. However, your career opportunities will be most limited to accounting, audit or tax role. You may find it harder to switch to other areas without a degree initially.

I am interested in doing CFA, starting first with self study.

Where can I obtain course materials? I understand there are many, Schweser, Wiley... which one to go for?

I live in Penang, is there any institution providing this up north (MRR consulting is no longer active)?

Thanks.
