Haijing 2901: China's heavily armed patrol boat may provoke escalation
With its 76mm rapid-fire naval guns, two secondary turrets and two anti-aircraft machine guns, the Haijing 2901 can easily overpower any patrol boat. If Japan's coast guard cannot oppose China's now "routine" patrols around the disputed islands, it could eventually lose control of the territory. The next step, an inevitable escalation, would be to deploy the warships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

One Chinese patrol vessel armed mahu kecoh, padahal nearly ALL Japanese coast guard patrol vessels are armed minimum 20mm autocannon, even small ones under 180tons. Nobody bising2 also.  laugh.gif

Japan's largest is the Shikishima class. Armament: 2 × Oerlikon 35 mm twin cannon, 2 × JM61 20mm gun. Aircraft carried: 2 × Eurocopter AS332

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shikishima_class_(PLH)

Even if the Japanese ship is larger (mainly for endurance purposes), the Chinese ship is much more powerfully armed.

The escalation is already happening. What the Japanese are going to do is transfer two of their older destroyers to the "Coast Guard" fleet to match the Haijing 2901, though (for now) without antiship missiles.

Actually Japan started heavily arming their patrol vessels in the 1970s after a ton of infiltrations from North Korean spy and infiltration boats. They kept the policy after the NK threat has receded.

Also, just 1 operational CCG vessel has guns (sister ship still under construction), also want to kecoh? Its small 76mm gun won't do diddly squat against a medium-sized patrol vessel. Smaller patrol boats can be severely damaged or even sunk, but if Japanese CG send these against the 3901, it really needs to have its collective head checked.

Transfer of Korean corvette to Philippine Navy to proceed with ‘best support’

South Korean Defense Minister Han Min-koo confirmed at a press conference at Armed Forces of the Philippines headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City Monday that the transfer of military equipment including a Pohang-class corvette to Philippine military is going on as planned.

“The relevant assets we are transferring to the Philippines is going as planned and we will give the best of support,” Minister Han said as quoted by Philippine News Agency.

South Korea sees the donation as a small token compared with the great contribution of Filipino troops during the Korean War.

It is expected that the said warship will arrive with intact armament and sensors.

The South Korean government has committed a corvette, a landing craft utility and 16 rubber boats.

The landing craft utility and rubber boats have already arrived May this year.

South China Sea Dispute: Beijing Constructing Third Airstrip For Chinese Military Aircraft

user posted image

China's military takeover of the South China Sea could grow after the construction of a third airstrip in the contested territory, Reuters reported Monday. The strip could accommodate most Chinese military aircraft, potentially giving Beijing greater access to maritime Southeast Asia.

Satellite photographs taken last week for Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) think tank show construction on Mischief Reef, one of several artificial islands China has built in the Spratly archipelago. The construction includes a retaining wall roughly 3,000 meters long that matches similar developments by China on two other reefs, Subi and Fiery Cross, Greg Poling, director of CSIS' Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative, said. "Clearly, what we have seen is going to be a 3,000-meter airstrip, and we have seen some more work on what is clearly going to be some port facilities for ships," he told Reuters.

The construction comes as Chinese President Xi Jinping was scheduled to visit Washington this month. “This is a challenge for the White House,” Michael J. Green, a senior vice president at CSIS and former senior director for Asian affairs at the National Security Council under President George W. Bush, told the Washington Post. “How do they talk about this? Do they say, ‘Don’t militarize these islands,’ knowing that the Chinese will do it anyway? Do they say, ‘Don’t continue construction,’ when it’s obvious that it will continue anyway?”

China claims sovereignty over the entire South China Sea, while Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Taiwan have rival claims. U.S. officials have warned against China taking new territory in that area of ocean. "China's stated intentions with its program, and continued construction, will not reduce tensions or lead to a meaningful diplomatic solution," Commander Bill Urban, a spokesman for the U.S. Defense Department, told Reuters.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Monday that China had "indisputable sovereignty" over the Spratly Islands, which allowed it to establish military facilities there.

Defiant Chinese Admiral’s Message: South China Sea ‘Belongs to China’

user posted image

QUOTE
The South China Sea, as the name indicated, is a sea area. It belongs to China,” said Vice Adm. Yuan Yubai, who commands the North Sea Fleet for the People’s Liberation Army Navy.

Yubai said China is working with the U.S. military on a code of conduct for aircraft encounters, which he hoped would help avoid conflict among the five nations with claims in the South China Sea.

“I believe after this code of conduct is successfully passed, all the neighboring countries around this area will have good communication with each other whenever such unexpected encounters occur,” Yubai said.

Vietnam Will Fight China, Other Nations Entering Its Waters Illegally

user posted image

QUOTE
Vietnam’s new rule could escalate conflict with China

Under Vietnam’s new rule, it coast guard will start using their weapons onboard to drive away any foreign vessel entering its waters without permission. Vietnamese coast guards will not stop until a foreign vessel is completely out of the country’s territorial waters.

Vietnam claimed that some Chinese vessels have been attacking its fisherman while fishing bear the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hiang Sa (Paracel) islands. According to the Vietnamese government, the attacks became more frequent since the oil rig standoff.

Political analysts suggested the possibility of an escalation of the conflict between China and Vietnam related to the territorial disputes in the South China Sea.

QUOTE
Vietnam is currently occupying 29 reefs in the Spratly Islands and intensified its military facilities in the territories. In May, satellite images showed that Vietnam did land reclamation in the disputed areas of Sand Cay and West London Reef.

On the other hand, China has a de-facto control over eight reefs in the Spratly Islands. In 2012, China created a new city called Sansha with an administrative body and headquarters in the Paracel Islands. The Chinese government said Sansha city is responsible for overseeing its territories in the South China Sea.

More Details on the Starstreak deal

QUOTE
SHAH ALAM: More details have emerged of the Starstreak SAM deal which was signed in July at the current DSEI show in London.

It appears that we bought the same set-up as the Indonesian armed forces back in 2014, though it is likely that the numbers between the two services may vary. No word on the cost for the Malaysian deal however. The Indonesian one reportedly costs 100 million pounds or RM680 million.

tldr; the starstreak system deal comprises the ForceSHIELD complete system same as the indonesian deal, number depends on contract

Commandos to be deployed onboard random cargo ships: MMEA

MMEA Special Task And Rescue unit

QUOTE
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will deploy its commandos onboard government-linked companies' cargo vessels soon to deter piracy activities in Malaysian waters.

Maritime Criminal Investigation division director First Admiral Datuk Zulkifli Abu Bakar said the deployment of commandos from MMEA's Special Task and Rescue (Star) will be made based on threat assessment analysis.

"This initiative has been discussed with the management of GLC shipping companies, where they agreed to have our commandos onboard their randomly selected vessels.

"Each operation will involve a unit of at least four armed commandos," he said during a press conference at a hotel, here, earlier today. Zulkifli said they are in the final stage of planning and preparation, and the operation will start "very soon".

It was understood that the latest initiative was a part of the agency's plan in combating piracy activities in Malaysian territory following recent incidents which saw several cargo vessels, including GLC-owned MT Orkim Harmony, hijacked by pirates.

I'm working in HR and found out some colleague actually violated our employment rules.

As the year comes to a close HR is tasked to do a salary review for the company, so we had a meeting in a meeting room to discuss on salary adjustment for the IT support department which is grossly underpaid, we heard a loud commotion in the meeting room next door.

Turns out the commotion was actually a male engineer pleasuring off his male co-worker in the most indecent way possible. To make things worse, another colleague who has a bad record in meeting deadline came into the meeting room to join them in their circle jerk as well. Unfortunately I couldn't post the CCTV footage due to privacy issues.

My question is should they be sacked or do they deserve a second chance with warning letter?

On Monday evening, a Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) helicopter suddenly crashed near the Palestinian “Nayrab Refugee Camp” after coming under heavy gunfire from the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham during its take-off at this area in the Aleppo Governorate’s southeastern countryside.

According to a military source in Aleppo, the aircraft was carrying medical supplies, food, clothing, and other provisions for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers that under the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) brutal siege at the Kuweries Military Airport in southeast Aleppo.

The military source added that the pilot and his crew were all also killed by the impact of the crash; this aerial disaster marks the second time in two months that a Syrian Air Force helicopter has crashed outside of Aleppo City.

Armata Vs Leopard 2: Germany's Main Battle Tank Could Be in Trouble

user posted image

Although both war machines are hailed as exceptional pieces of military hardware, "Berlin's tanks in a theoretical match-up would face a problem," NI's defense analyst Dave Majumdar noted.

"While the Leopard is probably overall more than a match for the Armata – it doesn't have the right ammunition to defeat the T-14," he explained.

According to the expert, the Leopard's key disadvantage stems from the fact that it uses tungsten instead of depleted uranium for tank rounds. The choice of material affects performance.

"Because of the limitations of tungsten ammunition, the Bundeswehr has some doubts as to the ability of its penetrator rounds to punch through the armor of the latest Russian tanks. Specifically, there might be instances where German ammunition might not have enough kinetic energy to ensure a kill against the T-80, T-90 and obviously the Armata," Majumdar pointed out.

The solution to this problem might seem obvious – replace tungsten with depleted uranium but the Leopard is unlikely to receive rounds made out of depleted uranium since the Germans are largely against the move.

Using US-made ammunition could have been an option but it is said to be incompatible with the Leopard's improved L55 tank gun.

The Leopard might well be one of the world's best tanks "when it comes to blending firepower, protection and maneuverability," as defense analyst Thomas Newdick put it, but the future seems to belong to the Armata platform at the moment.

Keep in mind, that Russia's cutting edge piece of military equipment will not remain static. For instance, its designers say, that the Aramata could well become the first unmanned tank in the world.

Thales Announces Order for ForceSHIELD Integrated Air Defence system and STARStreak Missiles for Malaysian Armed Force

user posted image

(Source: Thales; issued Sept 15, 2015)
General organisation of the Thales Force Shield air-defense system sold to Malaysia.
DSEI London --- Thales announced today at DSEI that it has signed a contract with Global Komited, a company within The Weststar Group, to supply the Malaysian Armed Forces with ForceSHIELD, the Thales integrated Advanced Air Defence system.

In addition to the STARStreak missiles, the system comprises CONTROLMaster 200 radar and weapon coordination systems, RAPIDRanger and RAPIDRover mobile weapon systems and the Next Generation Lightweight Multiple Launcher, as well as associated communications.

The STARStreak missiles and launcher systems are manufactured in Thales’s facility in Belfast and the CONTROLMaster by Thales in France. This significant purchase by the Malaysian Armed Forces will increase jobs in Belfast and develop high value added jobs and skills set in Malaysia through a programme of technology transfer.

The purchase of ForceSHIELD will enable the Malaysian Armed Forces to replace and enhance the previously commissioned Thales STARBurst missile system, which has been in service since the mid 1990’s.

The STARStreak missile utilises the proven principle of ‘high velocity’ to defeat threats with short unmasking times. The three-dart configuration maximizes lethality and the highly accurate laser beam riding guidance enables engagement of small signature targets.

Victor Chavez, CEO of Thales UK, said: “I am delighted that another country has decided to buy ForceSHIELD. This latest-generation sensors to effectors solution will give Malaysia a world class, cutting edge capability. Increasing our export sales is a key part of Thales’ growth strategy and today’s news marks another milestone.”

Thales’s ForceSHIELD solution is based on customising and combining a range of product lines such as radars, communications, engagement and fire control systems, launchers and missiles to meet front-line users’ needs. This approach provides highly-effective capabilities for its customers to meet the increasing array of asymmetric and conventional air threats in today’s security environment.

The CONTROLMaster200 comprises the latest generation solid-state radar, capable of detecting and tracking 200 targets simultaneously out to ranges up to 250km. It incorporates the CONTROLView engagement control system that evaluates threats, assigns weapons, and coordinates combat management activity – enabling complex and critical decisions to be made faster and with greater precision and security.

The RAPIDRanger is a unique lightweight vehicle-based launcher and fire control system, which can be integrated into a network-enabled force structure and coordinated with a variety of Command and Control systems.

Equipped with the STARStreak high-velocity missile, RAPIDRanger has the ability to defeat a wide variety of air threats, including ground attack aircraft, pop-up Attack Helicopters, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and cruise missiles.

The LML NG system can be based on a tripod or vehicle mount and supports swift deployment of STARStreak with 24hr capability. It provides two missiles, which are ready to fire, and allows the system to deal with saturation air attacks and provides a complimentary surface to surface capability. The manportable system is designed to suit a wide range of missions from lightweight rapid reaction roles to air droppable operations.

The STARStreak missile operates at a speed in excess of Mach 3 to defeat fast-moving threats and those with short unmasking times. The three-dart ‘hittile’ configuration maximises lethality and the highly-accurate laser beam riding guidance enables engagement of low-signature targets and is immune to all known countermeasures.

Global Komited is a specialised vehicle and defence equipment engineering division of The Weststar Group. A key industry player, Global Komited extensive activities encompass the design, engineering, customization, fabrication and supplies of specialised vehicles as well as military equipment
