QUOTE(BorneoAlliance @ Sep 15 2015, 12:51 AM) Haijing 2901: China's heavily armed patrol boat may provoke escalation With its 76mm rapid-fire naval guns, two secondary turrets and two anti-aircraft machine guns, the Haijing 2901 can easily overpower any patrol boat. If Japan's coast guard cannot oppose China's now "routine" patrols around the disputed islands, it could eventually lose control of the territory. The next step, an inevitable escalation, would be to deploy the warships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Sep 15 2015, 10:02 AM) One Chinese patrol vessel armed mahu kecoh, padahal nearly ALL Japanese coast guard patrol vessels are armed minimum 20mm autocannon, even small ones under 180tons. Nobody bising2 also. Japan's largest is the Shikishima class. Armament: 2 × Oerlikon 35 mm twin cannon, 2 × JM61 20mm gun. Aircraft carried: 2 × Eurocopter AS332https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shikishima_class_(PLH) Even if the Japanese ship is larger (mainly for endurance purposes), the Chinese ship is much more powerfully armed. The escalation is already happening. What the Japanese are going to do is transfer two of their older destroyers to the "Coast Guard" fleet to match the Haijing 2901, though (for now) without antiship missiles.
