Indonesia Pertimbangkan Pembelian Sistem Rudal Antipesawat S-300

24 Agustus 2015 VPK

Johor Sultan advises Special Forces regiment not to be involved in politics

MERSING: The Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar today advised members of the Special Forces Regiment not to be involved in any political parties to uphold the good name of the regiment and not to accept blindly information disseminated via the Internet.

The Sultan also reminded military leaders and honorary officers not to wear decorations like badges and wings all the time as according to procedures, they should only be worn during certain occasions only. “If one really wants to wear the wing badge all the time, I suggest they make the jump first. At least the wing pinned on the chest really has value and not just a decoration to complete the uniform,” he said. Sultan Ibrahim also reminded all members of the regiment to be prepared for any future challenges in the modern and developing military era now. He hoped the Defence Ministry would give more attention to the needs of the regiment considering it is a frontline force in combating incidents affecting the country’s peace and sovereignty. He stressed that his presence as Colonel Commandant of the regiment was not just as a figure head but to ensure the regiment continued to progress. He was also disappointed that several programmes to develop the regiment with new facilities have yet to be implemented. On the 50th anniversary of the regiment which was set up on Aug 1, 1965, he wanted members of the force to empower the institution with their full commitment as the success today was the sweat and tears of previous members. In the past 50 years, the commandos had served and sacrificed for the people, he said. --Bernama

Pentagon: Modernize military on Guam

user posted image

The Pentagon's new maritime security strategy in the Asia-Pacific region includes modernizing the military's Guam-based assets as territorial disputes in the South China Sea remain unresolved.

The Guam modernization, according to the military's recently released strategy, includes:

The U.S. military expects to have 10 Joint High Speed Vessels, which cost about $185 million apiece. The high-speed ship bridges the gap between low-speed sea transport and high-speed air transport capabilities for the military.

The Catamaran-style high-speed vessel will have a crew of 22 people, but will have "airline-style" seating for more than 312 troops and fixed berthing for 104, according to the Navy. The Military Sealift Command will operate and sustain the high-speed vessels.

The high-speed ship can navigate shallow waterways, has roll-on, roll-off ramps for offloading cargo and combat-loaded Abrams Main Battle Tanks, among other equipment.

The Air Force also continues a program to modernize hangars and other support structures to augment those and other U.S. military capabilities, according to the strategy.

Guam serves as the regional hub for the Air Force's Global Hawk fleet.

The Navy will operate a new unmanned surveillance aircraft called MQ-4C Triton from Andersen Air Force Base by 2017, according to the report.

Released Aug. 21, the Asia-Pacific Maritime Security Strategy states the United States continues "to express to China our concerns about its behavior in the East and South China Seas."

China's actions included "restricting access to fishing grounds in disputed waters, engaging in provocative energy exploration in other nations' claimed exclusive economic zones and undertaking dramatic land reclamation activities on disputed" areas, including in the Spratly group of islands, according to the report.

Mistral Warships: Russian Military To Dismantle Computers, Radar, Specialist Equipment After Canceled Deal

user posted image

QUOTE
A team of Russian military engineers arrived in France Tuesday to begin the process of taking back specialist computer systems that were installed on the two Mistral warships before the defense deal was formally canceled in early August, according to a Kremlin military source who spoke with Russian news agency Tass. While France looks for a potential buyer for the $1.2 billion helicopter landing ships, it will also need to spend hundreds of millions replacing the unique Russian systems that are being taken away.

Computer systems, specialist radar, sonar and communication devices will also have to be removed from both ships, previously known as the Sevastopol and the Vladivostok.

"The first team of specialists from Russia is in France to sign a deal detailing the timeframe and other technical issues for dismantling the equipment from Mistrals," the source told Tass, who also said that a second team is expected to arrive in October to oversee removal operations that should be fully underway by the fall.

PressTV-Iran mass-produces Nasr cruise missile

user posted image

Iran has launched the production line of a cruise missile with its defense minister saying the air-launched missile is aimed at improving the country's deterrence power.

The production line of Nasr cruise missile was launched during a ceremony at Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization affiliated with Iran’s Ministry of Defense on Tuesday.

Iran's Minister of Defense Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said Nasr is to be delivered to Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Air Force to "significantly upgrade the tactical power of these forces."

"Nasr air-launched system can be installed on different types of fighters," he said, adding that the missile is equipped with radar tracking system which would enable it to destroy targets with "high precision."

Dehqan said boosting Iran's missile capabilities is among the main strategies of the country's Ministry of Defense.

The Iranian defense minister also said the Nasr missile functions autonomously, allowing fighter jets to immediately leave the danger zone.

He said Iran plans to fit Nasr missile on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the future.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic also regularly conducts military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its military and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

Iran has repeatedly said that its military might poses no threat to other countries, reiterating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
