Priority is to secure the target bro
Not go chase something in a very low situational awareness environment (its dark? its a trap? who knows?) even if they could
And polis SOP is to call for backup first before doing anything in any case

A twin-mount .50 cal M2 HMG on a chopper equipped with a FLIR would be great just about now. laugh.gif

than need improve patrol boat capability..
i know....
from other view, they success cross border until pulau pompom undetected by our side means,
- our surveillance still not good enough
- no enough ship/sea base with radar to detect intruders boat?
- small ship lack of radar?
- small patrol ship not operation at night?
hmm.gif

Fiery Cross Reef
As of June 28, 2015, China is expanding the construction of its island facilities on Fiery Cross Reef. The construction of a 3,000 meter airstrip is nearly complete. China continues to pave and mark the airstrip and an apron and taxiway have been added adjacent to the runway. Prior photos showed that a small lake existed in the middle of the island; this has since been filled in. Personnel are now visible walking around the island.A sensor array has also been constructed and additional support facilities are being built. Meanwhile, a naval vessel is moored in the port. The size of the island is estimated at 2,740,000 square meters. The island has a partially-developed port with nine temporary loading piers. The harbor area is approximately 630,000 square meters. Two helipads, up to 10 satellite communications antennas, and one possible radar tower are also visible. Also visible are two lighthouses and one cement plant.

1 . it's a large area with atoll and small island where its very complicated to navigate let alone in the dark
2. Small fast boats are harder to track even with coastal radar
3. The pga patrol boat is a small team patrol that have no radar that is used to patrol in shallow waters area.
4. Ships with radar are usually at the deeper water

I think medium-range UAVs with FLIR camera would probably do the best job of night-time maritime patrols in ESSCOM region. Drone controller at base can even put drone on autopilot and go drink coffee or eat some snacks if they got sleepy.

Calon Panglima Komitmen Datangkan Pesawat Baru

- 02 Juli 2015 06:38 wib

Fact Sheet: Republic of Singapore Air Force's F-16 Upgrade Programme

The upgrade of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)'s F-16 fighter aircraft seeks to equip the RSAF’s ageing fleet of F-16s - which first entered service in 1998 - with new and advanced capabilities to keep them operationally relevant. The new Active Electronically Scanned Array Radar represents a significant capability upgrade, extending the F-16's detection range and enabling the fighter aircraft to track and engage multiple targets at greater distances. The upgrade will also equip the F-16s with an all-weather, ground-attack capability, enabling it to strike targets with more capable precision munitions such as the Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition (LJDAM). Modern advanced air-to-air weapons will equip the aircraft with the capability to engage a wide spectrum of air threats within visual ranges. In addition, the datalink capability and the advanced helmet mounted display will provide the pilot with superior situational awareness, enhancing safety and enabling the pilot to maximise the potential of modern munitions. The upgrade programme enhances the capabilities of the RSAF's fighter fleet and ensures that Singapore's defence and security needs are met.

The upgrade for the RSAF's F-16 fighter aircraft will commence from 2016 and will be conducted in phases. It is expected to take place over five to six years.

well radar not only scan other ship, it also provide safety to boat, for ship not hit other boat or sea object.

1. Actually before pompom island between malaysia/Philippine border have clear sea line, there place is best place to detect before indruder cross to our small island. also already have some quantity patrol boat at that area, at nigh should enough provide 2-3 patrol with radar to scan the sea.

2. correct the boat is small, but means it undetected, it small still can detected with in 5-6km from small marine radar. not mention biger patrol boat can detech it around 10-15km。 also coastal radar too far from border sure hard to detect intruders small boat, unless we built outpost near border.

3. base on my view patrol boat photo at ESSCOM, i found some already have small marine radar, some only have GPS, like CB90 full with marine radar. so i can see small not issue, is our patrol boat should include with small marine radar.

4. Nowdays even RHIB, small patrol boat also have shot range radar and GPS use for patrol use. ship will run navigation radar 24h, it will scan sea surface, also to avoid other ship or object, only air surveillance radar will run/off base on requirement.

Predator drone?
That require huge amount of investment on satellite facilities, command and control hq, drone facilities and so on.
That cost billion of dollars.
