Ya, no alien head logo at all, black then white screen

Maybe you need to share how your ribbon was connected and how the LCD wire is connected here.

Everything was well in place, don't think there's any problem with that part.
Had to remove the keyboard to see the connectors, make sure that it was tightly fixed in place.

You should try it out. Need to isolate the problem before we come to conclusion.
If external monitor works fine. Mean something to do with the ribbon.
If external monitor also white screen, something to do with the graphics card.

Seems like the ribbon is loose, been fiddling around with it the whole morning, apparently the center of the LVDS display connector isn't having much contact, had to really push it down.

Even if the sides manage to "click" if I don't press hard down on the center it doesn't display anything.

So for now I hope it holds. sweat.gif

For now, I would say yes, but just worried that the connector is gonna be loose again. Should get that replaced if possible when I have the money to upgrade my GPU with you haha laugh.gif

Well, just done installing a fresh copy of Windows 7, gonna install and update the other drivers then blink.gif

Haha... I can say should be no problem in the future also. Remember, don't ever use the Alienware Command Center in the resource disk. Download the latest version in Dell website.

New m14 owner here. just bought it last week (display set). discover that alienware warranty already expired as this unit was deployed in 22 March 2014. shop receipt states 1 year warranty though.

What other games can i play. now only have WoT, WoWarplanes and Starcraft.

[Sorry, this is off topic] My only complaint is i dont like using Windows 8.1. installing Classic Shell now. So used to using Mac. easier for DL, access Exchange emails. now have to use eM Client and Thunderbird to access two separate Exchange email accounts because non-license Outlook (i tried using 2010 and 2013) seems cannot access those Exchange accounts sad.gif

maybe you should check out online reviews for games that can run nicely with the gpu in your machine.

just adjust it to your needs. i find w8.1 much better than w7 for several reasons. yeah at first its performance is not good. but now after patches, to me it's getting better. w10 still need some polish. thunderbird, and firefox, are more flexible. they're one of the reasons my system can be restored in very short time, even if i do clean installs.

Hi guys,

Haven't been to this forum for a very longggg time. It seems the community has grown a lot! biggrin.gif

Anyway, something bad happened to my Alienware M17x R2 (not that bad actually), I accidentally dropped something on my alienware keyboard and guess what, two of the keys actually broken. One of them got the clip broken, while another key still intact to the keyboard, but got cracked on the surface itself.

Does anybody knows anyone who sells keyboard for alienware of my generation? Refurbished or Used unit also acceptable.

Thanks guys! smile.gif

a place for you to check out online is taobao.com. there are plenty of sellers selling aw keycaps, or the whole keyboard. that's where i got most of the aw parts (e.g. fans and 3-pipe cpu heat sink for aw18).

cracked? that thing that hit the keys were damn heavy i guess. previously i slammed on the keyboards really hard. 3 keys fell out. i just put them back and they're good lol

edit: damn. you don't say. the heat sink just arrived biggrin.gif

There are 4 small rubber pads on the bottom of my Alienware Laptop M15x. One of them is almost worn out, due to the heat from the laptop fan.

My laptop is still under warranty. Can I request Dell to give me the rubber pads?

And, how do I attach the rubber pad back to the bottom of the laptop? Use glue?

Thanks for the advice. smile.gif

Unfortunately its on the very high side. My suggestion is to strip the spec into the Basic, and put an "add-on" hardware section below the Basic Spec.

Currently customer can get the latest M17 with GTX970M around 5.1-5.5k as Dell MY are giving huge discount among their staff. Maybe, just maybe after the wave passed, you can elevate back the price, but still not up to the current price.

My humble $0.20

try contact dell and ask for replacement. i don't think they can provide you with just the rubber pad.

good luck on the sale smile.gif it's a good machine that's capable of handling performance boosts even further via upgrades. (and still better than current laptops by a fair amount, in terms of performance)

by the way, in terms of build quality, you actually cannot find anything that can match this laptop.

Sorry for the late reply as I had been busy with Raya celebration.

As for the Taobao.com, I found it a little bit hard for me to navigate around as the website is written in Chinese. Any other alternatives to get the keyboard replacement? Or maybe just the key caps? biggrin.gif
