One more question, should I use my 450w old PSU? Its like really really aged. Its was from my first PC that from 8 years back.
Its a POWERLOGIC ATX 450w PSU.
*
Better don't old PSU and modern PSU differ in its load distribution, also, Haswell and newer is more picky on that.

Purpose: Mainly for gaming, some rendering and 3d modelling etc.

Hardwares that will be re-use: None

Monitor resolution: 1080 * 1920

Personal preferences: Hoping to get 24 inch monitor, SSD and 970 Jetstream if possible.  tongue.gif

Thanks for the help in advance!
*
4k budget for rig and another RM500 for monitor will be more plausible to fit in most of your needs and requests.

Would be willing to scrap the SSD if it would help with the budget. Afraid my ceiling is about 4k.
*
PC parts in MY are getting pricier since the weakening of MYR and launch of GST, let's see what I can fit in within 4k.

You can have both Xeon CPU and GTX970 in your budget  biggrin.gif

Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3 - RM 949
MSI B85M-E45 - RM 289
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209
Palit Jetstream GTX970 - RM 1377
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
Seasonic S12II 620W - RM 339
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 135

Total: RM 3241 (GPU is from Cycom, others are from Viewnet inclusive of GST)
*
Subtotal: RM3487

The remaining budget should be about enough to get a cheap 24" from AOC/BenQ. Else try to reduce the GPU to a Zotac reference 970, should save about RM100.

What does C and K mean? I was going to build from Ideatech, I know K stand for Overlock-able. C mean? sweat.gif
*
Meh, the price is ridiculous, not worth it even it is new tech... shakehead.gif

I know MYR:USD is bad now + GST, but the price is almost same tier with 5820k already (in fact 5820k used to cost around 1.2k only last time)...

No idea for C, but those 2 chips are indeed unlocked for overclocking too.

Chill, all this while Intel do have ultra high end offering for anak dato enthusiasts, and their price are a few k MYR one.

Actually there are even pricier Xeon for workstation which cost over RM10k easily for the chip alone.

As normal consumers, we don't need care too much, just focus on their normal mainsteam i-core series is enough.

As for the cheaper alternative build (3.5k) you requested, drop either Xeon to i5 4460 or GTX970 to GTX960.

Thanks for the headup. Now all I need is to dig for mobo and ram, problem is, does it fit my budget? hmm.gif

Since last time was looking at Xeon 1231V3 + 16GB RAM + 750ti build. Now got new Core i7 broadwell. Mind you guys help me out? I have no clue which mobo to pick from... did you guys last time said, the new mobo don't support DDR3 ram, so mean I need to look for DDR4 RAM? I kinda weak at this part. sweat.gif
*
The new i5 and i7 (the two priced over 1k just now) are new CPU, but on an existing socket which launched last year end (H97/Z97).

The current mobo is still on DDR3. It is the next mobo which start to use DDR4 (but so far speculated to provide backward compatibility with DDR3).

So if you are getting a Xeon build now, go for either B85/H97

If you are getting the new i7 build, go for H97 (Z97 will be better, but it gonna cost a lots more).

Seeing the current price, I really dono which one should suggest.

Xeon + 750ti should cost slightly more than the new i7, with a weaker CPU performance but better GPU performance.

The new i7 should be more powerful than the Xeon, but again on a H97 plaform, you pretty much wasted its OC ability (but should still be more powerful than the Xeon even not OCing). But again, I can't justify paying a price of 1.4k for it...

For the RAM, you are getting DDR3 RAM, as it is cheaper and your mobo is using it.

p/s: I didn't mention Haswell-E range of product with its DDR4 RAM as they are seriously out of your budget and only causing you more confusion.

Hard to say, all the shops are still there to survive, which means they are all competitive in their way.

But generally, I will advice you to pay visit to the few bigs first, Viewnet, AllIT, Jayacom and Cycom, those which got pricelists at LYN main page.

Also, Sri Computer is something worth mentioned seperately, cause their range of products and prices can be vary vastly from others, though they used to be complained for sucky aftermart services, not sure bout now.

hi there, I got a very silly question to ask as I really new in PC.

is every PC need a sound card? If don't have sound card is it mean no sound at all, even I plug any speaker or use headphone?
*
Mobo itself have some basic integrated sound system. Just plug connectors into the audio port behind will do.

It works fine enough for most people. Only those who are more picky on sound quality will need to invest extra on a better dedicated sound card.

thankiu so muchie!

Actually I have increased my budget and do some research, not sure my spec as below is good enough for triple A games? PSU 550w enough?

INTEL CORE I5-4460
ASROCK H81M-VG4
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
Zotac GTX960 2GB GDDR5
WD 1TB Caviar Blue 7200RPM/64MB
FSP HEXA+ 550W
Aerocool cyclops Advance Black
*
Everything pretty balanced and solid for their price. As for performance, it pretty much determined by the GPU. To play AAA title shouldn't be much problem since most games are created with minimum requirement below GTX760. But you should adjust the graphic details and settings accordingly to make the frames more smooth.

The only thing I may suggest you to change is a slightly better mobo. Nothing crucial but you get PCIE 3.0, more RAM slots and so on.

thanks for da advice.Will consider

Anyone know which shop hv provide assemble non-full rigs service? Cuz i  found out that good price no come in a same shop, so actually i planning to buy at few shops and look for assmble service
*
No idea but personally feel that they won't entertain you if you only get a part or two from them. The least you should be getting casing, mobo, PSU and CPU all together then I will only consider assemble for you if I'm the shop owner.

Also, most shops do provide further discount if you get them all parts from them. Try and list out the specs list and ask them to quote you the best price.

Hi guys, since I hadn't update with the price and the USD/MYR saga is ongoing, I need some help for a 2.5k to 3k build (including monitor).

[Budget] 2.5k-3k

[Purpose] General works + mild gaming like Dota2

[Hardwares that will be re-use] None

[Monitor resolution] FHD will do, something 22-24" if possible

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Dota2

[Personal preferences] None, will also consider 5th/6th-gen i5/i7 no discrete GPU option since Dota2 not really graphic intensive and Intel Iris Pro seems convincing enough

[Location]KL

Thanks.

Switch the build above you to i5-4460 at RM710 and Zotac GTX960 at RM749 from same seller. You are good to go
*
Great, didn't expect 4460 and 960 still in the rough price range as b4, may be the effect of 4.0 conversion rate not yet kick in, LOL.

Thanks for the help, will advise him (my friend) to pull the trigger as soon as he can.

Hi guys have some question here regarding original windows and hardware ties.
From what i've read the windows key that we use to install is usually tied to the motherboard.
Does that mean if we change the mobo our windows key wont be genuine anymore?
*
Don't matter much anymore, if you are upgrading it to Win10, they will bind it to your system (mobo).

*
I don't think it is possible to squeeze GTX970 with Skylake i5 within 3k...

Skylake i5, Z170 and DDR4 cost a lot more than a budget non-OC haswell i5 build.

Need suggestion for RM2k Skylake rig with a nice case. No GPU needed as I already have a GTX 960.
*
Not viable at the moment.

I5 - 1k
Mobo - 500+
8GB DDR4 RAM - 400+

That's already 2k+, yet include other parts and a fancy case some more.

Need to wait for locked budget i5 and H170 mobo with DDR3 support come out first only then it is possible.

I don't always a speed maniac, but this i5 really have a low clock speed. I will prefer topup another RM70 for the 6500 for a higher clock speed.

Whether you need a 3rd party cooler, I think better you get your new rig back and test first to see if the stock cooler performance is OK or not, then only decide.

That's one damn pricy H-series mobo there. shocking.gif At that price, I will choose Z-series anyday anytime.

That's another hell of pricy monitor, is it really the best choice around consider its price? hmm.gif

What would  you change from the revised build then? I changed the monitor. I'm very out of touch with the recent tech updates.

Topup a little and go for i5 6500 (or if you want to have some fun, directly get a i5 6600k, it is unlocked for overcloking).

Remove the 3rd party CPU cooler for the time being, new processor should be cooler than its predecessor. If old i5 can survive on stock cooler, this one should be able too.

Either downgrade to sub RM400 B/H series mobo or topup all together and get a Z series mobo for it's better support with overclocking, multiple GPU and extra PCIE 3.0 lanes for next gen SSD expansion.

As for monitor, it all depends on the size (24"-27"), resolution (FHD/1440p), types (TN or IPS), refresh rate, g-sync/freesync support and some other less discussed stuff like color gamut and so on. First thing first, IPS > TN anyday for me (take note bout response time sort of issues, but for me it is overhyped and exaggerated). Next, either 27" 1440p or 24" FHD, if you have extra money can take a look at those extended 21:9 widescreen monitor too, they are fun to have. G-sync/free-sync ensure the monitor refresh at the same rate the frame your GPU can render, hence in theory remove screen tearing and things will look buttery smooth. Though they are still quite a niche/novelty products till today, hence not really something dying for if out of your budget.
