Hi guys,

Can you please check if the specs below is ok? Using it for photoshop, multi-tasking, movies and will probably leave it on 24/7. Prefer smaller size case but I'll put both:

Normal Size (budget RM2.5k):

Intel Core i5 4460
Asrock B85M HDS or Asus B85M-G (viewnet don't have stock for Asrock)
Corsair 8GB value ram
Liteon S900 120GB
WD Blue 1TB
Leadtek GTX 750 2GB
Thermaltake Versa H25
FSP Hexa+ 550W
Liteon DVD-RW
CM Hyper 212x
Logitech MK240 Combo

Smaller Size (budget RM3.5k):

Intel Core i5 4460
Asrock H97M-ITX
Kingston Hyper Fury 8GB or Aegis
Liteon S900 120GB
WD Blue 1TB
Leadtek GTX 750 2GB or Palit GTX 750 StormX OC
Corsair Air 240
Seasonic M12II 520W
Asus Ext DVD-RW
Cryorig H7 or CM Hyper 212X
Cryorig QF120 Performance or Corsair SP120 Performance for front and top
Logitech MK240 Combo

I'm going to re-use my monitor (Samsung P2770).

Thank you. smile.gif

First build is ok, the mobo you can switch to MSI B85M-E45, it has 4 RAM slots and is much cheaper than Asus B85M-G.

As for second build, the case itself is already quite expensive, if you want to save more, you can go for CM Elite 110/120/130 (price between RM 159 - RM 179), and Corsair Air 240 doesn't have 5.25 drive bay for the optical drive.

Some refinements for second build for more powerful CPU and GPU.

Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3 - RM 949
Asrock B85M-ITX - RM 329
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209
Liteon S900 128GB SSD - RM 269
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
MSI Tiger GTX960 2GB GDDR5 - RM 850
Seasonic M12II EVO 520W - RM 319
Asus DVD-RW SATA - RM 59
CM TX3 EVO - RM 99
Logitech MK240 Combo - RM 89
CM Elite 130 - RM 179

Total: RM 3540 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

Hi sifus, planning to upgrade my dad's current rig due to system instability (e.g. Crash/hang/BSOD/stuck in bios boot screen during boot up) even after changing the ram, GC & PSU. Now suspect MB problem

My current rig
CPU: i7-920 (plan to change)
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 (plan to change)
Ram: Kingston HyperX 12GB (4gb x 3) DDR3-1600 CL9 (Upgraded few years back, was using Asus 1GB x 3 DDR3 1333 before)
Graphic Card: Palit GTX660 Ti (Upgraded few years back, was using ATI HD4850)
HDD: Intel SSD X25-M 120gb + WD caviar black 1TB
PSU: Cosair TX650M (was using something else before upgrading the ram & GC)
ODD: Blu-ray RW multidrive (2 unit)
OS: windows 8.1
[Budget] RM2k+/-

[Purpose] Mainly 3D video editing (captured from Sony TD 10 handycam) & web surfing & light gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Ram, GC, PSU, HDD, ODD, monitor

[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Cyberlink Power Director, Sony Vegas

[Personal preferences] Intel chipset, latest usb 3.1 (if possible)

[Location] Melaka

Thank you, would also appreciate advised on other parts that need to be change to ensure compatibility and bottleneck

Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3 - RM 949
Asrock H97 Pro4 - RM 389
CM Hyper 212X - RM 169

Total: RM 1507 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

USB 3.1 PCIE adapter can be bought separately around RM 150.

Or alternatively, you can go for overclockable CPU, more powerful than Xeon but if you are not familiar with overclocking, I suggest to go for first build.

Intel Core i7 4790K - RM 1339
Asus Z97 PRO GAMER - RM 636
CM Hyper 212X - RM 169

R9 280 is better than GTX960 in terms of raw performance.

But please note that some games favor Nvidia GPU which makes GTX960 performs very well, sometimes it can even beat GTX780 (e.g. Project Cars).

If that's the case, you can downgrade the SSD to 128GB, it saves you RM 160.

And good luck for the competition thumbup.gif

Thanks terence_nwb. Unfortunately I don't like CM Elite 130 case. After looking around I decided on Corsair Air 240. I will get an external DVD-RW for the smaller case. If I go for Corsair Air 240 case, do I need to change anything?

Thank you for your help. smile.gif

All the components will fit in Corsair Air 240, if you want WiFi connectivity, you can switch to H97M-ITX/ac for onboard WiFi card with a top up of RM 100 or just get a cheap USB WiFi adapter.

If you want to keep everything within 3.5k, downgrade the CPU to i5 4460 will do.

Edit: Corsair Air 240 comes with 2 fans (default 1 fan as intake, 1 as exhaust), you can add one more at front for dual intake, one at the HDD/SDD/PSU section. If want cooler, add 2 more fans at the bottom for intake. I am using Corsair Air 240 btw tongue.gif

So just use your list and downgrade the CPU? Yes, I'll use H97M-ITX. Should I get CM TX3 EVO or CM Hyper 212X? Is Cryorig H7 good? So how many fan do I need? I'm planning to get Corsair SP120 Twin pack. Put 2 at the front and 2 at the top (if possible since i dont know if it will fit). Should I get 6 instead? 1 at the front, one at the back, two at the top and 2 at the bottom? Lol...

Ya, change the Xeon to i5 to save money. CM TX3 Evo, Hyper 212x and Cryroig coolers are all good air cooler, since you are not using an unlocked 'K' CPU, stock cooler will do the job fine unless you wish to have a cooler temp. Corsair fan is quite overpriced actually, you can try other brand's fan as they provide almost the same performance as the Corsair one at much lower price. Well, I admit I am a Corsair fan blush.gif so I did get the SP120 twin pack PWM edition. My setup is 2 SP120 as intake (with radiator), 2 SP120 at bottom, one default fan at top as exhaust and one default fan at back (PSU area) as intake to cool my HDD/SSD.

Lol... I'll either go for Corsair SP120 twin pack or Cryorig QF120 Performance. Thank you again terence_nwb. Now I'll need to calculate the price and hopefully can get it between RM3.5k - RM3.6. biggrin.gif

Thank you, I think I'll go with option 1. The processor doesn't come with cooler?

My current Corsair TX650M is sufficient to power this build right?

It does come with stock cooler, I included an aftermarket cooler to make it run cooler since you have budget left, you can just pick up the CPU and mobo without the aftermarket cooler.

Your PSU is good to go.

[Budget] RM1.3k. For desktop system only. 1st Rig, please be gentle~

[Purpose] Gaming, AutoCad, CATIA V5, Light Video Editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Recently brought second hand
Mobo: MSI Z87-GD65
GPU: Asus R9 280x Direct CU II

[Monitor resolution] 1080

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Was going to play GTA V, Witcher 3, Basically current Gen and Future Gen games, Engineering Software maybe.

[Personal preferences] Interested in simple looking casing like NZXT S340, but will settle for BitFenix Neos due to budget constrain. Hopefully in the future will upgrade the rig, might crossfire and OC it. So PSU have to be good and casing have good ventilation. Recommendation needed.

[Location] In Penang. Hopefully can recommend nice and good shop with attractive price and good after sales service. Tq
