Hi sifus, planning to upgrade my dad's current rig due to system instability (e.g. Crash/hang/BSOD/stuck in bios boot screen during boot up) even after changing the ram, GC & PSU. Now suspect MB problem

My current rig
CPU: i7-920 (plan to change)
Motherboard: Gigabyte EX58-UD5 (plan to change)
Ram: Kingston HyperX 12GB (4gb x 3) DDR3-1600 CL9 (Upgraded few years back, was using Asus 1GB x 3 DDR3 1333 before)

HDD: Intel SSD X25-M 120gb + WD caviar black 1TB
PSU: Cosair TX650M (was using something else before upgrading the ram & GC)

[Purpose] Mainly 3D video editing (captured from Sony TD 10 handycam) & web surfing & light gaming

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Ram, GC, PSU, HDD, ODD, monitor

[Monitor resolution] 1080p

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Cyberlink Power Director, Sony Vegas

[Personal preferences] Intel chipset, latest usb 3.1 (if possible)

If that's the case, you can downgrade the SSD to 128GB, it saves you RM 160.

First build is ok, the mobo you can switch to MSI B85M-E45, it has 4 RAM slots and is much cheaper than Asus B85M-G.

As for second build, the case itself is already quite expensive, if you want to save more, you can go for CM Elite 110/120/130 (price between RM 159 - RM 179), and Corsair Air 240 doesn't have 5.25 drive bay for the optical drive.

Thanks terence_nwb. Unfortunately I don't like CM Elite 130 case. After looking around I decided on Corsair Air 240. I will get an external DVD-RW for the smaller case. If I go for Corsair Air 240 case, do I need to change anything?

All the components will fit in Corsair Air 240, if you want WiFi connectivity, you can switch to H97M-ITX/ac for onboard WiFi card with a top up of RM 100 or just get a cheap USB WiFi adapter.

If you want to keep everything within 3.5k, downgrade the CPU to i5 4460 will do.

Edit: Corsair Air 240 comes with 2 fans (default 1 fan as intake, 1 as exhaust), you can add one more at front for dual intake, one at the HDD/SDD/PSU section. If want cooler, add 2 more fans at the bottom for intake. I am using Corsair Air 240 btw 

So just use your list and downgrade the CPU? Yes, I'll use H97M-ITX. Should I get CM TX3 EVO or CM Hyper 212X? Is Cryorig H7 good? So how many fan do I need? I'm planning to get Corsair SP120 Twin pack. Put 2 at the front and 2 at the top (if possible since i dont know if it will fit). Should I get 6 instead? 1 at the front, one at the back, two at the top and 2 at the bottom? Lol...

Ya, change the Xeon to i5 to save money. CM TX3 Evo, Hyper 212x and Cryroig coolers are all good air cooler, since you are not using an unlocked 'K' CPU, stock cooler will do the job fine unless you wish to have a cooler temp. Corsair fan is quite overpriced actually, you can try other brand's fan as they provide almost the same performance as the Corsair one at much lower price. Well, I admit I am a Corsair fan    so I did get the SP120 twin pack PWM edition. My setup is 2 SP120 as intake (with radiator), 2 SP120 at bottom, one default fan at top as exhaust and one default fan at back (PSU area) as intake to cool my HDD/SSD.

USB 3.1 PCIE adapter can be bought separately around RM 150.

Or alternatively, you can go for overclockable CPU, more powerful than Xeon but if you are not familiar with overclocking, I suggest to go for first build.

It does come with stock cooler, I included an aftermarket cooler to make it run cooler since you have budget left, you can just pick up the CPU and mobo without the aftermarket cooler.

Your PSU is good to go.

If you want to max out the 1k budget, I would go for

OR if you want high frame rate monitor
