[Budget] RM1.3k. For desktop system only. 1st Rig, please be gentle~

[Purpose] Gaming, AutoCad, CATIA V5, Light Video Editing

[Hardwares that will be re-use] Recently brought second hand
Mobo: MSI Z87-GD65
GPU: Asus R9 280x Direct CU II

[Monitor resolution] 1080

[Games & softwares that use frequently] Was going to play GTA V, Witcher 3, Basically current Gen and Future Gen games, Engineering Software maybe.

[Personal preferences] Interested in simple looking casing like NZXT S340, but will settle for BitFenix Neos due to budget constrain. Hopefully in the future will upgrade the rig, might crossfire and OC it. So PSU have to be good and casing have good ventilation. Recommendation needed.

[Location] In Penang. Hopefully can recommend nice and good shop with attractive price and good after sales service. Tq

Since you are from Penang, look for Hikari85 in Garage Sales, her shop is in Butterworth btw.

Your current budget won't be able to get a CF ready PSU unless you increase your budget.

Below is the recommendation from me.

Intel Core i5 4460
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM
WD Blue 1TB HDD
FSP Hexa+ 550W
Bitfenix Neos

The total cost would be around 1.5k based on Klang Valley price, Hikari's price might be slightly higher, or alternatively you can try other online resellers like Techview/E-tech/lingloong which are based in Klang Valley area.

Look for used i5 4440/4460, it could save you at least RM 200+/-, then use the extra money to get a better PSU, others can remain the same.

hi guys i have a question in mind. i need a rig now but have only limited budget like around 2k+. might want to upgrade to gtx970 in the future unless this rig already can include it. most probably using to play d2 and cs for now. if possible maybe cod bf4.

with my current limited budget, what build do you recommend with availability to upgrade in the future.

gonna need the rig only, others all use old ones. is it possible to include ssd?

Rig under 3k is not recommended to include SSD unless you are really craving for it.

Intel Core i5 4460 - RM 679
MSI B85M-E45 - RM 289
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 199
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 135

Total: RM 1700 (Viewnet price inclusive of GST)

Leadtek GTX750 2GB GDDR5 - RM 499 OR Sapphire R7 260X 2GB GDDR5 - RM 499

For now, you can just get a cheap GTX750 or R7 260X/265 for around RM 500 and upgrade to GTX970 when you have money later alongside with SSD if possible.

If you mean current 2k + another 1k then yes you are able to get GTX970 straightaway.

Just add Zotac GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Reference RM 1271 from Cycom or Palit GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Jetstream for non reference version RM 1377 from Cycom.

The total cost will be around 3k.

If you plan to upgrade GPU in the future, you don't need to change CPU and mobo, both are good to go.

Reference card uses standard blower type cooler and will run slightly hotter than non reference card but it is cheaper.

Non reference card normally features custom cooler and design from the manufacturer, it runs cooler with the help of extra heatpipes and efficient fans. It is also better for overclocking. The downside is it is more expensive than reference card.

If budget is tight, just get the cheapest one, it is still a GTX970.

You can change the processor to Xeon E3 1231 V3, ATX mobo, better PSU and add SSD.

Intel Xeon E3 1231 V3 - RM 949
Asrock H97 Pro4 - RM 389
Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Value RAM - RM 209
Palit GTX970 4GB GDDR5 Jetstream - RM 1377
Liteon S900 256GB SSD - RM 429
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 189
Seasonic M12II EVO 520W - RM 319
Thermaltake Versa H25 - RM 135

Total: RM 3996 (GPU is from Cycom, others are from Viewnet inclusive of GST)

What is your current monitor resolution? Is it full HD?

And you can downgrade the SSD to 128GB and use the extra money to get a better case if you want.

Xeon E3 1231 V3 is a locked processor while 4790k is an unlocked processor, former one cannot be oc but later one can. If you want to oc, you need to fork out at least RM 800 to top up for a good mobo that has a good amount of VRM phase, an aftermarket cooler (either air or liquid cooler) and the "K" processor.

If you are new to oc and don't know how to oc, you better settle with Xeon unless you are really keen to learn how to oc, oc requires extra time and you will need to test different setup (voltage and speed) in order to get a stable oc without BSOD or crashing the PC. It could be quite troublesome sometimes.

If just purely gaming, Xeon will do the job fine now, you won't get a significant performance improvement in terms of frame rate you get in the game when you oc. Probably just 1 to 5 FPS inprovement, some games will just give same amount of frame rate even with a crazy oc setup.

If you are going for rendering/editing etc, then an oc rig will save you a lot of time as the task will be done more quickly.

if i plan to use r7 260x as per your suggestion, is it necessary to upgrade to 280x or 280oc?

GTX750Ti price is not really far ahead of the non Ti version, I would say Ti version is more worth it.

R9 280/280x is a big improvement from R7 260X, but this upgrade will cost more than upgrading a 750 to 750Ti, like few hundred ringgit, a better PSU is recommended if you wish to run 280/280x.

It is considered as stable if you found the correct voltage level and frequency and your PC doesn't crash after running for a long period of time.

Every mobo comes with a safe limit so you don't have to worry about frying the mobo. Just add the voltage slowly, don't skip the step and go nuts by putting max voltage during the first step sweat.gif

For gaming purpose, I strongly recommend you to go for non oc build, the extra money can be used to invest in a better GPU, since GPU is the most important part when we talk about gaming.

If you want good after sales services, like free pickup for your damaged parts to send back for warranty, Idealtech would be the more ideal choice.

Haha.. I guess ill stick with Xeon then biggrin.gif
Later I did something wrongly and panic, then its gonna end up badly..

GPU already going for 980Ti, if better GPU then Titan X? Haha...
I am in a dilemma between the two of them... Warranth only important if shit happens to your desktop.. But i have no experience with both of them...
If someone could give me an idea about their experience between both of them, then itll be good..

980Ti's performance is not far behind Titan X (just like 970 vs 980), you need to fork out another 1.5k+/- for a Titan X which is not worth in my opinion.

Idealtech price is slightly higher than other shops but their after sales service is superb, Cyntrix is more like a distributor and they don't carry all the parts recommended here.
