My Mi Box S upgraded its firmware to version 9, for that reason it lost its ability to stream audio passthrough for DTS, Atmos etc.

I think the only way to get around this is to downgrade to version 8.

Anyone to share who can help to downgrade the device in area near PJ? I know someone shared the technique online. I think I will let some pro to do it.

Hi guys, need some recommendations which android box should i buy, im interested in mi box s since it is a certified netflix, meaning i can play 4k netflix. My first android box was tx6s 4gb ram+64gb, That time i thought highest amount of ram and storage is the best android box and i dont know anything about netflix certified device, and end up only able to watch netflix at 480p. I also cant download app from playstore properly. Only after that i understand this kind of android box isnt certified, which limits streaming quality of some apps, I hate it and sold it.

My usage will be able to watch netflix,youtube,hbogo,disney+Hotstar and myb most ott apps without any limitations. also can i install astro go too? i dont need any preinstalled free movie apps. Should i buy mi box s or as some others i saw recommending mecool km2, but the price difference about 100, mi box around 220-250, mecool above 300. Im not really familiar with mecool brand,afraid it will be just another non certified android box.

Right now for certified Netflix devices, your choice are either Mi Box 4S or Mecool KM2, both should be around the same price and have local stock. I owned both, and I highly recommend getting the KM2 since it has more ports, a dedicated LAN, Micro SD slot as well as a USB 3 port. This is compared to just the single USB port that the Mi Box has.

Note that there is a third option, the Chromecast with Google TV. But I honestly won't recommend it since there are adverts on the UI, and Netflix does not let Google use it's database to populate it's front screen, meaning the UI is useless if you are a Netflix user.

Your Chromecast with Google TV information is incorrect.

This device is not official selling at Malaysia, which means they is no adv for you to see. The interface will look similar like Android TV box.
I purposely use VPN to US / Canada to see the adv as it is helpful to let me know more coming soon movies.
If this is very bothering, it can be turn off anytime.

2nd the Netflix recent view is always appear on main screen which act same as Mi Box Android TV box.

Not sure where you got the price. As per my observation, the price is between rm235-rm250 for Mecool KM2 local stock on Lazada/Shopee and if you have collected lazada bonus then you can get at least RM16 discount.

The difference between Mibox S vs Mecool KM2 is that the latter has one generation newer SoC, some additional ports with better remote and Atmos.

If your usage is only for online streaming and does not need USB or other additional ports then there are other cheap option:
1. Onn 4K > S90Y2, security updates, Google reference remote ~ RM180
2. TiVo 4K > S905Y2, Dolby Atmos & Vision, USB-C port, security updates ~RM200

There is another option but unfortunately local sellers mark up the price quite high but if you know how to import via forwarder then you can get it cheaper. Iirc, it used to be around RM250-RM270.

Note that all this device only comes with 8GB storage and 2GB storage but can be expand with external storage via Y-OTG cable or powered USB hub.
This year might have newer device with 16GB storage especially device with Google TV OS and Netflix certified. The price will be expensive too.

The Astro Go app doesn't work on Android/Google TV. You'll need to look for modded version of the app.

Cannot. But you can use Chrome Dev version to browse and watch AstroGo using a mouse.

Remember to set your browser as desktop version.

Astro itself is blocking access from smart tv. Thy only allow Sooka, and even then you need an expensive account (RM89p/m) to get the smart tv access

my old tvbopx bought 2 yrs ago .. i've been running astrogo apk (downloaded from apk site) smoothly.. until recently cannot turn on the device liao only i buy xiaomi mi box...

Your Android Box is a modified Android OS similar to your phone and you are using a modified Astro APK. Android TV is a different OS altogether, hence why people usually revert to using browser trick for Android TV.
