Someone gave me a mibox 3, it's black in color. I have some questions on it:

1) must i root it to delete apps? I tried uninstalling the weather app but failed.

2) need to put sd card if want to install new apps? Tried installing some apps from shafa but failed.

3) any tips or advice on how to fully utilize the mibox?

I just received my mi box from lazada. Where can i install file manager? Last night plan to use it for AOTG, but i cnt find file manager to install AOTG. Lastly i gave up and used back my old minix

i can confirm that this method works. I've converted my unit successfully to the global rom, BUT note that the limitations listed are also true.
the converted unit has been my daily driver and working fine enough for me for my kodi fix. if you are okay with accepting those limitation, then feel free to try out.

Limitation that I'm aware of:

The unit I have comes with Galaxy TV and some "pre-installed" app, however, most of them are unusable...
As long as it runs iflix/dimsum/kodi well, then it's fine by me (not gonna use screen mirroring anyway)

Casting from phone does not work, but seems like there is a solution of using seagate cast mentioned in the last few pages, which i will try later.
Casting from web browser works fine.

i presume your unit also does not have the voice remote with mic to activate the google voice search. i do not have that so not sure if this feature works or not.

Of the 3 apps listed, i can only confirm that Kodi works well. Astro app also working fine once you set the correct keyboard and rotate the screen using other apps. Others app in your list, not sure. You can try and report back.

not sure what do u mean by blank screen. This is what i encountered and the way i solved

1. AOTG crashed whenever i launched the app. Solution: Change the default keyboard layout in the mi box to gboard (Google)
2. Once (1) done, the app can launch without issue. However since AOTG app by default is portrait mode, the display of the app will be tilted to the left by default. Solution: download set orientation app , launch it and force the orientation to landscape mode. Then relaunch AOTG, and the display will be correct.
3. Hard to navigate through AOTG app. Solution: Use a mouse.

Does it work for Mi Box 4K ?
This unit have only 8GB eMMC storage which is very small.

What is the latest Mi Box version?
