I diy myself with the magnetic lock system and add in a wifi module to make it smart

Hi all. Need some help for upgrading office to be "smart" office. For now, planning to migrate light switches and Fan coil ac to smart platform.

Plan is to use products that play well with amazon Alexa(prefer this)/Google home. Light switches most probably using tuya/lutron/broadlink(anything else?)

As for ac, not sure what can accommodate fcu. Prefer if can do multispeed(1,2,3) control based on room temperature. Any products that suit my case?

What is the purpose of the motion sensors... to turn on light? Where will the light be installed? Indoor or outdoor? How will it interface with your system, through WIFI (smart) or directly connected to the light?

In my neighborhood, one of my neighbor uses this. It seems quite reliable. At night, when I walk pass, the light turns on immediately

Do you mean install 2 smart-locks? one on the grill door and then another one on the inner wooden door?

My poor understanding is that if you only want to use the lock once? why install 2 locks?

You meant unlock using phone? Why make it difficult? Thumbprint is difficult? 

I do understand some house usually in older area have this grill things... even for the windows.

Technically
It all depend on the features of smartlock but from what I know, if the smartlock support remote unlock through hub, then there should be no problem to link the 2 smartlocks.

But actually my question previously is more of a conceptual/opinion discussion

If you have 2 or multiple doors that unlock automatically after 1 another, is there added security?
One may argue that what if some guy break-in and 2nd door is a buffer.... but your first lock and alarm system should provide defense against it at the first place.
and if you uses same token, card system, passcode to unlock both smart lock or automatically unlock from status of 1st smart lock, then the additional smart lock is of no security use theoretically.

I'm looking for an infrared to wifi/network device. My ceiling fan is a typical KDK type with basic remote. I want to control it with Android. From my past experience, it can only control on-off. No control of the fan speed which I need most. Can modern devices do that now?

I'm currently using the Smart Life app with my smart switch. Hoping to expand the devices in this eco system.

I was looking for rpi4 for my HA... till I want to add Frigate with about 8 cameras...and now I'm looking for a mini desktop or nuc equivalent to host HA + Frigate (future with coral).

Anyone got good deal or has installed HA with refurbished mini desktops?

Depends on your cpu, object detection processing is just offloaded to the edge tpu. If you add like 8 cam to frigate running on latest i7 and if cpu hovers 30-50% then just keep adding more.

inilah reason why i needed a mini desktop. any other tech can be be added for a smart home?

I remembered seeing an article mentioning to connect the aircon to a smart plug with WIFI but I can't even see the air con 3 pin plug. Is it hidden somewhere?



These are the old air conditioners at my place right now. I can't see any 3 pin plugs.

yes except 3 phase different neutral busbar. single phase good to go.
