About zigbee smart switch, can the switch work with wifi or still need the zigbee hub?
If the hub 'down' all the switches lose connection and doesn't work?
*
Yep, just zigbee hub
Pretty much, you can’t access remotely or control with app, same goes with your automation

Looks like better take wifi version.
Im beginning to running HA for my home.

Got pros and cos bro, zigbee wireless sensors are definitely way better because of the longer battery life.
Lights and wall switches, i’m leaning to wifi because i can still install custom firmware and disable reset (sometimes kids or anyone could accidentally reset when they keep flicking the switches)
Also, always backup your HA so you don’t have to re-pair the zigbee devices again if your HA crashes or something.

Yeah. For light switches.. probably best using wifi.. my house seems doesn't have wifi blindspots.. router place in middle of house.
Currently im.running the HA on Debian on an 'old hardware' Celeron J1800 itx.
*
Sufficient enough, only reason you’d need higher spec if you need to use for ai detection like with frigate cctv and coral tpu installed

I once installed HA on a 512mb orange pi zero w and it worked just fine till the sdcard crash. All the more reason to move to ssd

Dear sifus....i am totaly new in smart home. Got some questions want to clarify. I am looking at Tuya now as it can be easily found online with reasonable price.

1) But i notice that there are a lot of Tuya devices from different seller / vendor. Are they all same? I mean do they use different app to integrate or can use one app to integrate/control?

2) I am looking for some wall siwtch to control lighting and sensors for security purpose. For wall switch i notice that there is Tuya wifi smart switch and Zigbee type smart switch. And sensors are mostly zigbee type. Can i mix and match using wifi switch for controlling lighting and  Zigbee sensors for security? How to integrate them together? Any recommended app?
3) Which famous Tuya brand do you recommend? I have standby neutral cable for the switches.

Hope someone can guide me.....Thanks
*
1) hardware might differ but all using tuya cloud

2) yep can, since integrated in tuya/smartlife app already for both.
If you need to combine like from different brand like aqara, sonoff, tuya then check out homeassistant

3) i guess moes or zemismart probably

1) which mean if it is tuya regardless from which vendor, i can use tuya/smartlife app to integrate the device right?

2) Moes seems reasonable price.

3) One more question. For the switches, any pro and con for wifi version and zigbee type? Mainly i want to control lighting & plug when i am away from home.
*
1) correct

2) not just about brand, but depends on your usage. Good thing is tuya has pretty much covered every automation for any device out there (fingerbot, robot lawnmower etc) so it’s a good place to start

3) i’d say it comes to signal coverage
If you router latest model and got mesh setup should support lots of devices connected at the same time
With zigbee, the more devices you have (plugs, bulbs, switch with neutral), the wider range of the zigbee network covers your home
Either way you’d still need wifi (with internet) for remote accesss

tuya have many manufacturers...
and not all offered the same quality.
i read some of it broke easily especially for non neutral.

i personally like sonoff and been using it for few years.
but it lacked of choices..
eg smart lock, curtains, cctv, power plug etc etc

for this reason, im currently considering tuya as well
*
Good thing is sonoff still using esp while tuya migrated to beken chips.
The average user probably won’t care about it but for people who wants complete localized control with custom firmware it’s a big deal

One thing about zigbee is that its connection is established by forming path when hop from one device to another, right? What happened when one of the device in path failed. There was cases reported that one device never has log updated for more than a week but when send a request the device responded.

This seems like once path was established it will just stay put and think no request has been made until a manual request re-established new path.  hmm.gif
*
Haven’t had that issue yet
Just coverage stuff, sometimes even with normal zigbee stuff like wall switch, bulbs not enough still need dedicated router like sonoff usb 3.0 to bounce the signal

unfortunately nope... it didnt seem easy

*
For me still easier and less steps than having to desolder the beken chip, flash esp then solder esp on some tuya devices.
Thanks goodness for solder paste and hot air gun.
That’s what i do now mostly for tuya devices with beken chip onboard
Now got another opensource firmware called openbkt for beken can try also

switchman is beautiful... i hope they have RF433 too.

anyway i might go with Smatrul, because they have 20A touch switch and dimmer...
does anyone here use this brand before? can review abit?
*
I have the touch version, so far all good.
Also, they seem to still work without capacitor or neutral (wifi version)
Last time they still have esp chips on board so you can flash custom firmware on it

For controlling higher power devices, u can wire the smart switch to 'contactor'. Its function like a relay.
Smart switch power the relay, the relay power the device (ex: pump/heater)

Im going to power my water pump this way because the switch is upstairs. (Currently need to go up to switch on pump)
With smart switch can power from anywhere (app or HA interface downstairs)

Got some diagram?
Is it something like shelly 1 plus?

thanx... then i will go for this brand 😁
as for flashing, how to know it is using esp chip?

and mind to explain how it works without capacitor and neutral?
does it powerup like the Test Pen?
*
If you spot a chip with esp logo on the pcb, it can be flashed
Mine is similar to this

https://codesandbolts.com/girier-smart-switch-wifi-w6b/

It was unexpected, i was replacing my tube led and forgot to wire back the capacitor but the switch still works as normal. Otherwise it won’t even turn on

I plan to get Dimmable RGB+CW/ RGB CCT LED strips for ceiling covelighting for my new place (starting reno - so wirings are still in initial stage) and have some kind of switch control on wall.

I've search most of these strips already comes with 'Smart' integrated and power adapters. No luck with finding non-smart types.

For example: https://shopee.com.my/ZigBee-LED-Controller...3d-49ceb45a31ce

This means I have to get electrician to install a power socket and hide inside the plaster ceiling.

1. Control the strip only via smart control (zigbee hub+phone / smart scene panel).
2. or do as (1) and pull the wiring to a smart wall dimmer switch to still have the ability to physically power ON/OFF the strip also.

Not sure if this approach makes sense.
*
I can see why you need to do (2) if for some reason the zigbee controller gets unpaired because of power outage for example and you have to pair it again manually.

TNB recommended 100mA for group of MCB to lighting/fan, air-cond and water heater with another 10mA at water heater points. Another RCD with rating of 30mA for groups of MCB to 3-pin sockets.

Bro, what do you use if you need to restore power after main mcb trip?

Finally DIY my first wifi smart switch (Moes brand). Under the app settnig, the is one setting called relay status (on, off & remember last status). Toggling it on/off dont see immediate function. Anyone knows what is that for?
*
It’s for your switches after power trip, do you need it power on/off or resume last state
