RM 1k? shocking.gif
Means we need to hook up the system with more devices, then only economical?

BTW, any different between Yeelight and Xiaomi Yeelight?

If you are really interested in solar panel, go to https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&hl=solar+panel

anyway, if you want to save money, unless your monthly TNB bill is more than RM500, otherwise, just forget it.

Siao man! You have adjusted the meter ah?
*
My house electricity usage is similar as @ozak, bill also around the same, hardly go above RM 90.

I guess your inverter aircon temp must be set below 20 degree and you have huge room.

@enriquelee, you may use this power monitoring smart device to connect to your aircond, this will let you know how much electricity aircon use

Ya, temperature set below 20 degree at some time.
Looks like this is what I need. Thanks.
Every appliances need 1 number of this device?
I have done a rough calculation as below when I have a guess at my house. The amount is roughly there if my calculation is correct as below.
*
I'd say every power point needs one, anyway, there is z-wave device can tap on the DB box, which is I'm using now, Aeotec HEM z-wave to monitor the whole house electricity usage, however, because it is designed for US market which is 110V, the accuracy is not good.
Also, you will need smartthing hub to manage the z-wave device

To save the aircon power usage, especially for inverter aircon, you need to set the temperature around 25 degree, otherwise, inverter aircon doesn't really save money. my Mitsubishi inverter aircond 1.5HP only consumes 400W average when I set temperature to 26 degree.

You may change your lights to LED, and use PIR or smart home device to turn it on/off when no people around, my house lights always is off when no people around.

Smart home sifu. Want to ask some solution.

Let say a house far away and want to monitor, control some light or device. Example to cctv,  light ON/OFF and alarm for a basic function. But don't have network.

What is the best solution?

I m thinking of using a GSM as a network to control than wifi to all the device in the house? So Sonoff for device, wifi cctv etc.

Is there a GSM router ? Possible ?
*
Yes, there is 4G LTE wifi router, but make sure there is a good 4G/3G signal coverage at the house area smile.gif

cancelled the order, hopefully the seller accepts and refunds me. btw the tc2 also requires neutral wire , atleast from the pic here
*
Broadlink TC2 has another version without the need of neutral line, but I don't recommend buying Broadlink TC2, the quality is bad, I got one spoil already just used for 6 months.

Get the Xiaomi Aqara switch, at least Xiaomi is better brand, and Xiaomi product quality is better.

Xiaomi Aqara needs Xiaomi Hub or Smartthings hub, the wired version is using zigbee, hence, it needs hub to communicate, there is another version which is wireless version, which is act like a button to turn on/off xiaomi managed lights

Oh wait I thought Smartthings is zigbee?
*
Smartthings Hub is z-wave/zigbee controller, it actually has Bluetooth as well, just smartthings doesn't enable it.

As such, Smartthings Hub has widest range of device compatibility, it can manage a lot of devices even it is not smartthings certified devices. there are many developers in the community build their own device type handler to make it work with Smartthings, such as Xiaomi zigbee devices, broadlink, sonoff

QUOTE(ozak @ Dec 20 2017, 10:33 AM)
Equipment lifetime is not depend on the solar energy. Solar energy is only provide the supply. The rest is depend on the equipment quality.

But 1 thing for sure is the equipment have less device to convert the voltage and doesn't require stabilize. That reduce the equipment cost and longer lifetime.

But the setup cost is expensive.

Take for example setting up a remote control above.

Equipment need and consumption

1) router/modem - 2A
2) Network cctv - 0.5A
3) Sonoff 4channel  - 0.5A
4) Led Light 12w  - 1A

All run on 12V, 24hr accept the Led light which is 12hr. Total consumption around 1.1kw for a day.

Calculate the solar supply require is

1) battery of 232Ahr  - RM2.4k
2) 300watt panel or 3x 100watt panel. - RM2.1k
3) 25A charger controller. - RM500
4) misc - RM500.

Just the solar system is already cost RM5.5k.  sweat.gif
*
where did you get your 232AH battery? I saw Taibao 200AH battery selling around RM800 and weight at 60KG rclxub.gif sweat.gif

Who is giving the best price for Smarthings hub with UK plugs?
Should I buy the kit or just the hub?
*
Just the hub is good enough, Amazon selling US$75 for the Hub, just buy RM10 adapter to convert US plug to UK plug.

US z-wave frequency hub has more choices for z-wave devices

thanks
would it make sense for me to ditch the mi smart home hub for smart things instead? would the existing temp sensor/smart plug/occupancy sensor and door sensor work with the smart things?
*
Yes, as long as your xiaomi devices is using zigbee, then it should work with smartthings, however, there is learning curve to configure the devices to integrate to smartthings hub, because xiaomi is not smartthings certified devices, pairing is not as straight forward as using Xiaomi hub, for non technical guy, it will be difficult.

It's actually easier than it sounds. Once you add gateway hub into home assistant, all the aqara sensors/switch connected will be listed.
Then can start customize automation with google assistant

Kiding
Can you add aqara wall switch to smartthings?
*
Yes, Aqara wall switch can work with smartthings, I don't have one but planning to get it to replace my spoiled broadlink TC2 switch.

I'm a bit concerned about the range distance
With the sonoff wifi wall switch, you can expand the wifi signal
What about with aqara switch if they're just a bit far away from the smart hub?
*
I know xiaomi zigbee power outlet is zigbee repeater, actually I'm not worry about the range, unless you are staying in a big bungalow, 2.4GHz can cover pretty wide area.

Hi All,

What switch can use for autogate ? Aqara wall switch can or not ?
*
You need to know your autogate is triggered by a relay or not, if it is, then you can get a z-wave relay, Aqara wall switch doesn't work as a relay.

Prepare to change router liau la. Already sot sot. Coming will be more problem.

I have been manage my server network in home for 10yrs. Makesure it run 7/11. Deal with all this trouble of router go crazy, spoil, lightning damage, server kong, offline, speed slow, .. bla bla bla.

So you see tired or not.  sad.gif

That is the reason why I don't fully go home automation.

Somemore now many device have to cloud on foreigner country to work. (Really don't understand why need it) 1 day hijack my home and have to camp outside. sweat.gif
*
You need a good wifi router if you want stability for 24/7, Asus is good but pricey, you get what you paid for.

Why would these home automation go cloud? simple, they want your data, imagine they collect temp/humidity/location/power/motion usage for each household, this kind of big data really worth billion!

Can use custom firmware like ddwrt/openwrt to mimic those mesh feature?
Or it's exclusive for expensive routers like google wifi?
*
Actually most wifi router can bridge together to form seamless wifi access, I have one wifi router sitting on first floor and configured as bridge which connect to the main router.

both use the same WIFI SSID with same password, just different channels, my iphone/ipad can roam between these two wifi AP without losing connection.

Can i use this aqara to replace auto gate switch ?
*
Most autogate switch is momentary switch, aqara swich is not momentary switch, so mostly you can't simply do 1-1 replacement.

2 years.....???? Ask Kiding, I think his already 2 years.
Dont worry so much la.... sweat.gif
*
I have 5 x Xiaomi devices running almost 1 year already, no failure so far, but sometimes get disconnected and need re-pairing again.
z-wave devices last almost 2 years and no failure either.
Only kudled zigbee color bulb and broadlink TC2 failed me ! those small brand Chinese products need to avoid!

What happen if you're not in when such disconnect happen ?
*
When it is disconnected, it means it is not managed by the uub anymore, so it won't take action or send/receive data.

I'm using smartthings hub with xiaomi devices, so far I had disconnected twice, I think it is because xiaomi devices do not officially support smartthings.
