Hi sifu, thanks for your suggestion, also worry usb not able to power up the camera.
will this power up the camera?
IP camera → micro usb to usb cable(default cable) → usb to rj45 converter → cat7 cable → PoE splitter to plug
*
I don't think your IP camera video is communicated through USB, it is over WIFI, micro usb is just power your ip camera.

What you need is IP camera <- poe spliter < utp cable <- POE switches/injector

poe spliter has two cables - one for power and another for ethernet cable, make sure you get the micro usb type poe spliter

as far as i know, the switch and sensors are not regional specific
well even aqara MY on FB also giving incorrect info on d1 w.r.t. homekit connection. the d1 3gang are not homekit compatible yet, but they mention connect via home kit. similar with google home
*
The Aqara wall switch D1 should be compatible with home kit via Aqara Hub, because these wall switches are zigbee protocol, it cannot be directly added as homekit accessory, just like other aqara sensors, must go through Aqara Hub.

yes..it can be added to both the aqara hub. it can also be added to the xiaomi multimode hub as its also zigbee 3 certified (which i'm using). only thing means this is CN only product which is then latency issue
*
Aqara hub does not need to be in china region to add sensors that are made for China, my Aqara hub is in other regions and there is no latency issue at all.

QUOTE(aztechx @ May 9 2020, 06:04 AM)
Thanks for the reply everone!

Got myself a broadlink and now waiting for arrival..BUT....what started out as an innocent aircond control device search has turned into a mild obsession for smart home stuffs  biggrin.gif

Which leads to my next question, i immediately got myself a

- Xiaomi Gateway
- Xiamoi temperature and humidity sensor

Question here is,

1) i notice there are two types of gateway which i cant seem tos earch the difference (regretted not doing a proper research)

https://shopee.com.my/Xiaomi-Aqara-Smart-Ho...5082.1766788556
https://shopee.com.my/Xiaomi-Mijia-Mi-Smart...5082.3815507160

I got the second one and now wondering whats the difference and what am i missing in this dangerous pursuit of home automation. (eg: less workable devices etc)
2) I plan to 'smartify' all my light switches. Almost pulled the trigger before i realise the neutral/no neutral issue
- No neutral - Seems to have complains on reliability and flickering issue (including damaging your light drivers)
- Neutral - May need to do wiring as normal switch plugs doesnt come with neutral

Both doesnt feel like a viable option if true. Any advise from those who have used the no neutral for long term?

May have to just resort to the bedside lamp/smart plug option since my intention is more to turn off the 'last few' lights before sleeping at night.

3) On the bedside lamp, i noticed that they sell it in global or china version which i assume the difference is in the plug type. But also read that the global one doesnt connect to the chinese mainland server which my temp and humidity sensor is connected to.

is it better to just buy a china version with a plug converter for a seamless experience?

Thanks in advance guys!

For xiaomi eco system, if the device requires you to be in china region, I will try to avoid it, the reason is simple, network connection to china is not really consistent and fast, sometime you can get up to 10 seconds delay, imagine the motion sensor detects your motion, and then lights only turn on after 10 seconds doh.gif yawn.gif

But why so many users still go and buy Xiaomi smart home devices since it's so unstable?  Every now and then can see people saying this device or that device is down or not compatilble due to global & china region.
Xiaomi
*
it is unstable if you set your region to China in the apps, around 60 to 70% of xiaomi eco system devices can work outside of china region.

QUOTE(idoblu @ May 10 2020, 10:36 AM)
For Xiaomi stuff, the lag is in the app. You open the app, you need to wait a bit for the devices to show up and get connected.

But triggering from a zigbee sensor is immediate. Zigbee devices are connected to the hub, they dont need to get connected to the cloud so its nothing to do with China or whatever servers.

Even for Wifi devices, it also react instantly. You can use Google Home, Siri Shortcuts, Alexa - they all work instantly. Or you can trigger them from your zigbee devices - also immediate.
Again the problem only manifest itself when you use the Xiaomi Home app. It takes awhile before the devices let you do anything with the app.

Not sure if Aqara app is the same, I dunno since I dont use it.

Why I use Xiaomi? Because of the huge ecosystem, acceptable price, and decent quality. Which other system can I start my robot vacuum, open the blinds, turn off the air purifier, turn off my fan/aircon, and turn off all my lights just by the simple act of locking my door when I leave home? Without pressing a button or saying anything. Natively, without using a few apps, without need for 3rd party software to control.
*
The automation will have high latency if I set the region to china in Aqara app. As for xiaomi smart fan wifi edition, even though the Mi home app is set in Malaysia region, it still sometime can take 5-6 seconds to response when using Alexa.

I'm slowing migrating my smartthings devices and automation to home assistant, HA is using local processing which is much faster compare to smartthing cloud processing. another benefits is HA support homekit devices, now I don't need to buy apple TV for homekit automation.

ya, this is what i mean. a lot of switch i saw mostly is touch switch instead of tactile switch. so a lot of tactile switch but need neutral to work on. so thinking if those switch that need neutral cable, possible to be done by install capacitor?
*
Actually you should ask why smart switch without neutral line can work?

Smart switch is powered device, it requires power, a basic electrical knowledge tells you, a powered device require a electrical loop in order to let current complete a cycle.

so, a smart switch without a neutral means it does not have a loop, which mean no current flow through it! how come it can draw power?

Smart switch requires power, but it only requires a small amount of power, usually less than few watts, smart engineer hence design the smart switch to be always closed (slightly connected both hot wires with small current) even the switch is normally open, in this case, it establish the loop and powered the smart switch.

Now, next question, since the smart switch is always closed and let small amount of current go through it, why the lights do not turn on? because current also flow through lights, it should be on.

The key point is small amount of current, most bulb/CFL requires certain amount of current to flow through it in order to generate light, the small amount of current is not big enough to power the bulb/CFL to emit lights, so smart switch allows small amount of current to pass through it but the current does not have enough power to turn on the lights. clever design right?

The problem here is when this type of smart switch encounter small LED which only requires few watts to turn on, since this type of LED will turn on even a small amount current pass through it, hence, the LED blink or emitting small amount of lights.

That is the pass through capacitor comes in, the capacitor allows to bypass the small amount of current without flow through the LED, and problem solved.

in a nut shell, it is nothing to do with the switch apparent, whether or not it is touch or tactile.

let's say in total u got 20 on/off (6 3gang and 1 2gang) wifi switch vs zigbee switch, will the electric bill have more than RM5 saving monthly if use zigbee?
*
Let assume zigbee switch use 1.5W less than wifi switch, then

7 device x 1.5W x 24 hours x 30 days = 7.56KWh per month, and 1KWh is RM 0.45 average, which is RM3.4 a month! you only save RM3.4 a month if using zigbee.

most wifi switch uses less than 2W, zigbee switch uses less than 1W

QUOTE(Corrupted Spirits @ May 29 2020, 04:36 PM)
Bluetooth speaker is another way to go but my intention is to display the siren at outdoor to deter potential thief from aiming my house haha. I got a quotation from Bluguard just now and the whole alarm system will cost me 3k 🙄

Anyway, I googled around and found a solution for siren instead of just using the gateway. Apparently people are connecting 3rd party siren to Xiaomi smart plug and set it if the gateway alarm rang, switch on smart plug. This will automatically make the 3rd party siren rang as well. Then they also link a wireless switch with the gateway to make it into an alarm remote control. I have checked on the Mi app and apparently Malaysia region support xiaomi smart plug and wireless switch.

So now waiting for Paradox alarm system quotation and if it's more than 2k, high chance that I might just go for the Xiaomi route.
*
I have paradox alarm and I also got Aqara hub with xiaomi devices, Paradox alarm is old fashion style, If I were you, I will not consider paradox again, it is just kinda outdated tech

Aqara Hub itself built in speaker, quite loud actually, and can be acts as siren. Aqara with xiaomi zigbee motion, vibaration sensors can almost replace Paradox security system. the only feature that Aqara/Xiaomi motion sensor doesn't have is pet immune motion sensor. if you don't have cat or dogs in house, you should go with Aqara solution, one thing good about Aqara is homekit support, which is local process and can be managed by home assistant. local process is critical as the response is much faster.

Also you can get Aqara N100/N200 fingerprint homekit door lock to automatically disarm the security system when you reach home, it is better than key it code to disarm the paradox alarm every time when you go home.

Unfortunately I do not use Apple products 😅. Or does purchasing an iPad will do the trick ?

I do have a dog thou and my motion sensor will be mostly in the roof only. Not planning to put any motion sensor in the house.

The door suggestion is a good idea that I did not think of. Might have a look and see which lock is compatible with xiaomi Malaysia region.
A siren that can sound will be probably be better 😀 Just in case the thief decided to give it a go then at least there is sound that might make the thief to hesitate to continue his work.

The more I read the more I realised that we can do so much thing with automation nowadays.
*
You don't need to have apple product in order to use Aqara home kit, if you are IT technical guy, you can set up home assistant running on raspberry pi server and control all homekit devices.

If you have neutral line, then by all means use neutral line version better, and it is cheaper.

normally if got few downlight, the live wire always looping?
*
First, your diagram is wrong, second, if you think looping is series connection, then it is wrong either.

looping is single live wire cable connect to many devices but in parallel way. live wire connect to liver wire, neutral wire connect to neutral wire.

Series connection means live wire -> load -> neutral wire -> live wire -> load -> neutral wire.

If you still don't understand, please get a good electrical technician to do the jobs, or you might harm yourself.

Any home automation products here that adds a 2 way zone and when turned off the second zone activates a lag (delay off) timer before switching off which is mimicking the Clipsal 31VETF (data sheet)?

I wrote to Schneider Electric if there are such products here with the faceplate adapted for MY,  SG and HK because the abovementioned is for Australia (albeit discontinued). This is very useful in the bathroom when in use, both light and exhaust fan are on. When switched off, the fan continues to run for 3 to 10 minutes depending upon initial setting and after the predetermined delay time is up it turns off the exhaust fan.
*
Aqara hub + Aqara smart plug + Aqara wall switch + Aqara motion sensors (optional) will be able to achieve it.

Actually the most important thing is your z-wave hub frequency must be same as your z-wave devices.

I have US frequency z-wave devices and hub, and it has been working since 2016.

Last time there were very limited Malaysia frequency z-wave devices, I don't know whether or not is it still true now, If I were you, I will choose U.S frequency because it has more z-wave devices available.

BTW, I won't recommend to get z-wave devices as it is more expensive, zigbee devices also can achieve the same purpose.
