Equipment lifetime is not depend on the solar energy. Solar energy is only provide the supply. The rest is depend on the equipment quality.

But 1 thing for sure is the equipment have less device to convert the voltage and doesn't require stabilize. That reduce the equipment cost and longer lifetime.

But the setup cost is expensive.

Take for example setting up a remote control above.

Equipment need and consumption

1) router/modem - 2A
2) Network cctv - 0.5A
3) Sonoff 4channel  - 0.5A
4) Led Light 12w  - 1A

All run on 12V, 24hr accept the Led light which is 12hr. Total consumption around 1.1kw for a day.

Calculate the solar supply require is

1) battery of 232Ahr  - RM2.4k
2) 300watt panel or 3x 100watt panel. - RM2.1k
3) 25A charger controller. - RM500
4) misc - RM500.

Just the solar system is already cost RM5.5k.  sweat.gif

where did you get your 232AH battery? I saw Taibao 200AH battery selling around RM800 and weight at 60KG rclxub.gif sweat.gif

Smartthings Hub is z-wave/zigbee controller, it actually has Bluetooth as well, just smartthings doesn't enable it.

As such, Smartthings Hub has widest range of device compatibility, it can manage a lot of devices even it is not smartthings certified devices. there are many developers in the community build their own device type handler to make it work with Smartthings, such as Xiaomi zigbee devices, broadlink, sonoff

I also don't know what it means. What details do I need to ask from the manufacturer? BTW, they  say can run 7/24 1 Ip camera together with 1 wireless AP.
*
Any solar system can run 7/24. Just require the usage calculation so it doesn't drain out the battery .

You need to know the system can output how many whr or wattage. Or your equipment wattage usage.

I don't have 232ah battery. Only have 2x65ahr in series (24v).

That is total battery Ahr require. If you buy the battery with standard Ahr spec, than divide it out. So probably need 2 battery in parallel.

Becarefull with China battery. I have doubt on the claim Ahr with that price.

Battery is freaking heavy and the shipping price is crazy. Normally higher than the battery itself.

Only way is get it from local.

Just the hub is good enough, Amazon selling US$75 for the Hub, just buy RM10 adapter to convert US plug to UK plug.

US z-wave frequency hub has more choices for z-wave devices

That will do, I assumed you had like different switch for each lights before

one Sonoff will do, just make sure you put the Sonoff in the main cable before it splits to the other 4 lights
Turn off your mains breaker before working on it.

thanks

would it make sense for me to ditch the mi smart home hub for smart things instead? would the existing temp sensor/smart plug/occupancy sensor and door sensor work with the smart things?

Just came across this Smartthings Hub. This is the way I understand it.

The hub can communicate with devices using many kind of protocol such as zigbee, z-wave, IP, and other wireless protocol. Note zigbee, z-wave, etc are different in communication protocol though operate in same frequency, thus cannot talk to each other.

So, if you have devices controlled by a mix of these protocols, you can use the Smartthings Hub to control. Just need to used the Smartthings Hub apps to control them.

The z-wave and zigbee is using the ISM band which is basically the 900MHz, 2.4GHz and 5GHz. These are the Industrial, Scientific and Medical bands recognized worldwide. These band actually under utilized. So, they make it as open bands that require no license to operate but must adhere to certain regulation based on each country.

However, few country like China use 784 MHz for its zigbee. So, beware that it might not compatible with zigbee device that does not operate at this frequency.

Yes, as long as your xiaomi devices is using zigbee, then it should work with smartthings, however, there is learning curve to configure the devices to integrate to smartthings hub, because xiaomi is not smartthings certified devices, pairing is not as straight forward as using Xiaomi hub, for non technical guy, it will be difficult.

There's yeelight skill, but I don't think there's one for gateway
Need to use 3rd party app like home assistant first to bridge with google assistant. Then can issue command to turn on/off light switch

It's actually easier than it sounds. Once you add gateway hub into home assistant, all the aqara sensors/switch connected will be listed.
Then can start customize automation with google assistant

Can you add aqara wall switch to smartthings?

I'm a bit concerned about the range distance
With the sonoff wifi wall switch, you can expand the wifi signal
What about with aqara switch if they're just a bit far away from the smart hub?

I know xiaomi zigbee power outlet is zigbee repeater, actually I'm not worry about the range, unless you are staying in a big bungalow, 2.4GHz can cover pretty wide area.
