For those that bought SmartThings Hub, which version did you get? US or UK? How did you get it to cover the whole house, Googling asked me to use SmartThings outlets, but those outlets aren't in our usual 3-pin plug format, how do you overcome this?
*
I bought US version, because it has lot of z-wave sensors choices, anyway, you might consider UK version as U.S version z-wave frequency has overlap with GSM 900Mhz.

Smarthing compatible with z-wave, zigbee, it is RF frequency and has broad coverage, unless you are living in bungalows, you don't really need to worry the coverage, and a lot of z-wave power outlets built in repeater.

There is a thing called travel power adapter, just to ensure the z-wave devices can be used in 220V-240V, some z-wave devices selling in US only work in 110V.

Yeah, living in a double-storey bungalow, so need to make sure that this thing will really work before investing in it. So that means I need to plug another adapter onto the Z-wave power outlets to use it? Kind of ugly and bulky don't you think?

Someone was saying using OpenHab or Home Assistant, can that be hacked onto the SmartThings hub?

Actually you can use Xiaomi zigbee sensors, they can work with smartthings, and xiaomi sensors are small and cheap!

Openhab or Home Assistant is a controller, I don't think it is easier to integrate it with smartthing controller.

If that's the case, wouldn't it be better if I just get the XiaoMi Gateway and use all XiaoMi products?

i'm doing that actually.

more zigbee sockets arriving soon.

so far xiaomi system works with basic automation, but if you are looking for advanced features like using voice to control things, then don't think it's possible or as seamless as other platforms.

But how do you activate your warranty if there's faulty item? Is there a local distributor at Malaysia that can repalce it immediately?

Xiaomi - all your privacy belong to us tongue.gif

But really i don't care much, they get infos like what? Humidity/proximity data or some other things like that?
They're definitely a cheap alternative to z-wave devices

Working great with homeassistant so far, used the motion sensor & pair with sonoff t1 to light up whenever there's motion

I think only latest firmware for xiaomi button switch that breaks the connection to home assistant.

i guess irrespective of brands, all these part will most like not be getting any local warranty, unless u get them through local official channels. the best option, is to send them to the country of origin should anything happens.

I've actually burned one unit of the first gen. Xiaomi gateway before, but that was my fault as the adapter for its china socket somehow came loose and i didn't noticed that in time. then shit happen and i had since replaced it with a gen 2 version at own cost, as there is no local repair option.

i guess irrespective of brands, all these usage data also get sent back to amazon, broadlink, sonoff or even google, if you are on these platforms.
so in the end, how is xiaomi different for this matter?

agree with your comments.

so which brand is your best bet in terms of low cost and good business ethics?
my plan now is to eventually control all my xiaomi items using raspberry pi running Domoticz server, which is open source. Any one has experience running this?

I don't no.

As long as you don't have sensitive data that can link to such device should be ok.

With my bad experience, I don't trust China ethics of business. They don't have rule.

As long as xiaomi zigbee device is not managed by xiaomi gateway, it won't send info back to China.

All your devices have to add another adapter socket? I'm no electrician, but what if we change the plug head into a plug (male part) that can fit into the XiaoMi socket (female part)?
