Basically, most are quite pleased with the product. Some haven't even used it yet. Some had problems with the RF controller. Some reflashed it and had problems. Didn't read all the comments but the first few didn't mention burning down the house.

Besides Sonoff, any other brands that can wirelessly switch things on and off? My plans including a master switch (can be controlled wirelessly) for each section of the house, for example, one for the kitchen, one for the study, one for home theatre, so instead of switching off each individual switch, I just wirelessly switch it off one master switch and the whole section's power goes off.

Ooooo, that was something I didn't think about. Because to me it seems more practical to just turn off one switch instead of multiple switches for just one room.

QUOTE(luvox @ Mar 2 2017, 12:40 PM) Can still use multiple switches but do zoning. Group them together as a zone. Which product hv this features? That was what I was trying to ask the forum members about, which product can do that. I think zoning can be done by electrician, just wiring, so all I need is just one switch to be wireless instead of having 4-5 wireless switches in the same zone. |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Mar 2 2017, 02:18 PM) I know about Sonoff, just want to know are there any other choices besides Sonoff. Cause it involves a lot of self wiring and I intend for the Sonoff/Sonoff-equivalent to be inside the walls. |

Must ask the electrician to put neutral wires for all switches if we want to use the Sonoff?

Anyone tried putting Sonoff into the light switches?
Say I wanted to use one of the on/off light switch to control a few lights in the living room wirelessly. Initially, I just switch it on/off with my fingers, can I splice the Sonoff into the switch to control wirelessly? |

No worries, totally new house from ground up so that's why asking first. Was thinking of putting the Sonoff into a light switch box (the ones without the on/off switches) next to the real light switches.

To those having Sonoff, do you all order directly from itead themselves? Or through another reseller?

For those that bought SmartThings Hub, which version did you get? US or UK? How did you get it to cover the whole house, Googling asked me to use SmartThings outlets, but those outlets aren't in our usual 3-pin plug format, how do you overcome this?

Yeah, living in a double-storey bungalow, so need to make sure that this thing will really work before investing in it. So that means I need to plug another adapter onto the Z-wave power outlets to use it? Kind of ugly and bulky don't you think?
Someone was saying using OpenHab or Home Assistant, can that be hacked onto the SmartThings hub? |

If that's the case, wouldn't it be better if I just get the XiaoMi Gateway and use all XiaoMi products?

QUOTE(WIS9000 @ Aug 23 2017, 05:14 PM) i'm doing that actually. All your devices have to add another adapter socket? I'm no electrician, but what if we change the plug head into a plug (male part) that can fit into the XiaoMi socket (female part)?more zigbee sockets arriving soon. so far xiaomi system works with basic automation, but if you are looking for advanced features like using voice to control things, then don't think it's possible or as seamless as other platforms. |

Coming from a first time flasher (sounds corny), I use FTDI and ArduinoIDE, maybe it's a bit too much but I'm on an iMac.
1) FTDI chip, I use the CP2102, make sure you get the IC? chip in a diamond-shaped format. 2) Get all your libraries and ArduinoIDE and Tasmota updated to the latest version. 3) I didn't have to solder any of my Sonoffs, but a word of caution, I have only Tasmota-ized Sonoff Basic, TH16, POW, T1 (2 gang & 3 gang), Sonoff 4Ch and Sonoff 4ChPro. So that is my only experience. 4) The toughest of them all was the 4ChPro, because I have to hold another jumper cable from the GND slot to the 2nd pin on the IC. But it can be done. Anything can just ask. I only followed DrZzs videos, and the Tasmota wiki page. All is there, just that it's technical on the wiki whereas DrZzs is more visual. I'm a visually inclined person. |

QUOTE(Fubar20 @ Sep 13 2018, 08:56 PM) Can describe what u are using the different Sonoffs for? Google Home is the speakers. Google Assistant is the voice AI. Where got Google Home Assistant? Refer here for Home Assistant Sonoff POW for smartifying the washing machine. Base on the power usage, hopefully I can guess when the washing is done. Sonoff TH for attic fan, if it get's too hot, the fan switches on. T1 for switches inside the house that I want touchless. And FYI it's a new built, so I wired all with the Neutral line. |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Sep 13 2018, 09:09 PM) We do not know how long Sonoff can last, maybe bankrupt in a few years. You don't want it to die on you. And if you want to make your switches/equipment tie together, you need a flashed Sonoff so they can 'speak' the same language. Sonoff will send data back to China, maybe not sensitive data but some people are paranoid. |

QUOTE(Fubar20 @ Sep 13 2018, 11:20 PM) OK. You at South Korea now? True. But then we want to know whether it is ready to be taken out or not. Cause my washing machine is located outside the house. That's what I could come up with for now. Haha! If someone or I read somewhere with a better use of the POW, I can just switch it over. No big deal. Since it's already Tasmota-ized.Washing machine can put door sensor with on off code to signal clothes taken or not. SV can flash OTA with Tasmota if firmware is 1.55. |
