No need to be z-wave, my autogate use a simple switch to open/close gate, when the switch is close, it triggers gate to open or close. the switch basically receive 12V voltage signa, I plug in z-wave relay, when send z-wave on/off signal to it, it acts as a momentary switch to send 12V signal to gate switch and voila

You can use sonoff to act as a momentary switch too, not really need to be z-wave.

Hi,

i had the same idea of modding my auto gate and even went and bought a Xiaomi Aqara wall switch for this but ended up not working in the end as i only noticed the different voltage involved. My initial plan was to integrate this into my existing xiaomi gateway gen.2 system.

Can i know what automation network are you using together with the z-wave relay? and whether this item works with existing xiaomi network?

don't mind doing some product hacks if necessary.

Kidding

Appreciate some guide or some link to get started, don't even have autogate yet but I plan to install one
Not really sure where to start with z-wave, do I need to buy a new relay or can just do like WIS9000 proposed
*
a reminder. the Aqara switch method doesn't work for me.
interested on the Z-wave relay + xiaomi system, if this is possible.

i know there are some development like using Raspberry Pi method runing Domotiz client or sort, but would be keen on something much simpler first if available.

First of all, it is depending on the autogate system, if the autogate system is using a relay to open/close, then you can use z-wave relay or sonoff to replace the relay.

In my case, my autogate system is using 12V relay, when you hit the switch, the NO relay is closed and sending 12V signal to open/close. if you understand how the relay works, you will know how to wire it.

*
thanks for the info Kiding. Yeah i know how the relay works.
Mind sharing with us what network are u using to control your z-wave relay? also what brand is your relay?

can it be integrated into existing xiaomi ecosystem?

I'm using smartthings, it support z-wave, zigbee, wifi, TCPIP LAN protocol.

Xiaomi use zigbee/TCPIP, it doesn't use z-wave, unless you know how to hack into xiaomi zigbee outlet, it is kinda difficult to integrate autogate system to xiaomi echosystem.

smartthings can integrate to all xiaomi devices, probably you can think about to switch to smartthings  sweat.gif  brows.gif
*
thanks for sharing the info.
smartthings is from samsung right? the last time i check, it was quite pricey.
i don't think i would switch since i'd invested into a few xiaomi items. would look into way to expand the functions.
they worked quite nicely and quality seems good considering their price point.

speaking of auto gate, is there any way to detect that it is closed properly?
i am planning to attach the xiaomi door sensor to the gate, but scared it is not weather proof.
any 3rd party sensor to do the trick?

i was planning to buy aqara wall switch for auto gate, luckily i read your post first.
anyway i use the combination of xiaomi, wink hub and philips hue at home.

googling about home assistant, will try to configure it this weekend since i have raspberry pi 2 laying around without any usage.
*
yeah, luckily u checked. if not end up with an expensive switch like me.

btw, have you successfully integrate your xiaomi, wink and philips configuration?
does this involve changing the xiaomi gateway system?

i'm thinking of weather proofing the xiaomi door / window sensor to attach it to my auto gate.

anyone has any tips for doing this? the idea at the moment is to spray coat it with rubberized paint, like the one found in Mr. DiY. Wonder this works the prevent water damage to the sensor and at the same time can be cheaply opened up when it is time for battery replacement.

Open to suggestions.

If that's the case, wouldn't it be better if I just get the XiaoMi Gateway and use all XiaoMi products?
*
i'm doing that actually.

more zigbee sockets arriving soon.

so far xiaomi system works with basic automation, but if you are looking for advanced features like using voice to control things, then don't think it's possible or as seamless as other platforms.

But how do you activate your warranty if there's faulty item? Is there a local distributor at Malaysia that can repalce it immediately?
*
i guess irrespective of brands, all these part will most like not be getting any local warranty, unless u get them through local official channels. the best option, is to send them to the country of origin should anything happens.

I've actually burned one unit of the first gen. Xiaomi gateway before, but that was my fault as the adapter for its china socket somehow came loose and i didn't noticed that in time. then shit happen and i had since replaced it with a gen 2 version at own cost, as there is no local repair option.

xiaomi gateway sending all your signals and info to china, if you want to proceed.
*
i guess irrespective of brands, all these usage data also get sent back to amazon, broadlink, sonoff or even google, if you are on these platforms.
so in the end, how is xiaomi different for this matter?

That depend the ethical of business that brand. Such device like phone add some malware to spoof your data is not new. Been many many yrs.

And hacking your device is real.

I have experience with my server hack by PRC after coming back from China. WeChat acc kena hack last week. Some PRC sexy girl take over.
*
agree with your comments.

so which brand is your best bet in terms of low cost and good business ethics?
my plan now is to eventually control all my xiaomi items using raspberry pi running Domoticz server, which is open source. Any one has experience running this?

All your devices have to add another adapter socket? I'm no electrician, but what if we change the plug head into a plug (male part) that can fit into the XiaoMi socket (female part)?
*
Yup. that's the only draw back. I can live with it cos they are cheap.

Btw, how much are other compatible hubs / gateways that works with xiaomi zigbees?

any xiaomi users here having the gen. 3 gateway suitable to control the air-cond unit?
would like to know whether their IR signal is suitable for local air cond brands such as Panasonic.

sorry for the confusion. By gen.3, i was actually referring to the square gateway from Aqara. This term "gen. 3" was commonly used on other home automation forums.

i am thinking of investing in that model if it can support Panasonic air cond which i currently use.

smart home sifus, want to ask about this xiaomi temperature and humidity sensor. do i need to add something to it in order for it to work? can it connect to mi home app by itself?

thanks
*
did u get the square unit?

it needs to be linked to the xiaomi gateway. not sure whether it must be version 2, but i got both and working fine.

and yes some of the stats are in chinese, although u can read the figures anyways.

i use it to control my chinese cheap dehumidifier which is linked to a xiaomi / aqara wall socket, turning it on / off at preset levels. working well but still need to fine tune the triggering humidity points.

what radio channel were you streaming previously? China stations?

I've switched to digi infinity and no issues so far

yup, that's why i think tm is blocking connection to china.
but not confirmed since i don't know how to test.

My smarthome integration with google assistant/home is almost complete, managed to get auto gate to work by voice command to google assistant.
I use broadlink universal pro remote which support 433mhz and integrate it with home assistant, from home assistant integrate with google using google actions.
For automation logic like auto on aircond when room is ho and occupied i use mi home ecosystem. It’s cheap and reliable. I heard very soon they will integrate mi home with alexa and google home. Yeelights already support all those things.
*
Can you share your source or info regarding the mi home integration with Google home? I am assuming this is the 'official' feature opened up by xiaomi? Or is this done using other workarounds?

I am in the process of building a raspberry server to host either domoticz or home assistance which is widely discussed here, but if xiaomi now enables Google integration then that would be awesome.
