Just install as normal As long wifi coverage in range then no problem to control it with app or broadlink or any 433mhz rf remote

QUOTE(idoblu @ Aug 15 2017, 07:54 PM) Yeah, same like sonoff touch Or any other wifi touch switch So far I've replaced wall switch that's right next to wall outlet so can easily loop the neutral wire For other wall switches, gonna need extra wiring job There's also another variant of sonoff t1, alternative would be connect the capacitor from the live wire to neutral? QUOTE(tdb @ Aug 15 2017, 09:13 PM) for LED down light does it need another switch capacitor like the diagram above ? cos as i know mostly LED come with capacitor (correct me if i am wrong) I'm not sure since I also just plug in neutral wire (the capacitor is included with switch) So far all the wifi requires neutral for installation, and that capacitor probably acts as some kind bridge I guess from neutral to live wire. I'm no electrician so I assumed that anyway For any RF switch, they normally just require live wire connection. Wifi switch is still the better option though, you get on/off status and can also be controlled with voice assistant like alexa/google assistant. That's what sonoff t1 special since it offers both, I don't see any other brand yet doing this.

Just to reconfirm, no need for a hub right? Struck off the Xiaomi Aqara and Broadlink TC2 options due to that requirement.

No hub, just need wifi or broadlink pro/any 433mhz remote if you wanna control by rf Take note you'll need neutral wire for installation

This neutral wire you mention, is it not usually available in normal house wiring? And if it's not available will it require massive hacking and rewiring? I suppose a decent electrician should be able to sort it out for me?

And if it's not available will it require massive hacking and rewiring? I suppose a decent electrician should be able to sort it out for me? It's a simple wiring job, for me I just install next to wall outlet since there's already a neutral wire that I can loop to wall a switch next to it. So yeah, any electrician could do it If you need cheaper version sonoff t1, there's also this one https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09...._u=g2avq0do11c8It's using the exact same chipset & app. However if you plan to hack & install custom firmware I'd recommend just to get sonoff t1. Cheers for the explanation. As for the cheaper version, I need a 3 gang switch. However, the link you shared only has a 2 gang variant. so, i guess I'll stick with the earlier one (and sorry I can't read Chinese that well )

QUOTE(alucard89 @ Aug 16 2017, 11:07 AM) I'll check that again once I'm home. The capacitor acts like a bypass wire. So, the current flows through it depends on the capacitor value. The current is just enough to power the touch switch circuitry in this case. In the US the neutral wire is looped at the wall switch but in Malaysia, it neutral wire is lopped on the ceiling at the lamp socket I heard that the problem with the touch switch, though they said require no neutral, is not 100% guaranteed will work. It may work intermittently ff there is too much leakage current. I've never installed one though. Did you hear anyone having problem with the touch switch not functioning properly after installation?

So far no issues for me yet, with rf only wall switch or wifi.

Yup. sot sot wan. Did have such RF wall switch before back 17yrs ago. No neutral wire or capacitor to mod. It work find when new.

For those that bought SmartThings Hub, which version did you get? US or UK? How did you get it to cover the whole house, Googling asked me to use SmartThings outlets, but those outlets aren't in our usual 3-pin plug format, how do you overcome this?
