If not mistaken the indicative price was RM4,4xx previously now up to RM4,769 after GST. And I don't think I can get used to having just one port for everything so I'll skip biggrin.gif

Might as well get the Macbook Air compared to this. Mayb in the future when it has 2 USB-C Ports or if USB-C ports become the norm only can consider the get it.

What's nice about this Macbook is that you get 256GB storage. Pay the same amount for the latest Macbook Pro and you only get 128GB storage! biggrin.gif

But you get more features, more ports, much better performance with only the sacrifice of portability.

Depend on personal usage, some may opt for Macbook Pro lowest model instead of this new Macbook.
I was considering to get this Macbook at first but end up ordering the Macbook Pro, as I feel too many compromises I'll need to make do for this Macbook. With the price we need to pay, it's not worth it (to me at least).

Thing is you're not only sacrificing portability, but you're sacrificing storage space - by half! biggrin.gif

But that said if I had to make a choice I'd probably choose the same as you. I can already picture it in my mind on how annoyed I would be coz of the lack of ports.

Indeed.... sweat.gif
Pricing is the main issue here, based on internal news seems like Apple will charge USD250 for CPU upgrade to 5Y71 1.3GHz which is pure profit for Apple as Intel charges the same price for all Core M doh.gif mad.gif

I do understand the need to make the macbook epic thin but what's another additional port going to add to the thickness? Hehehe...

So if you have an iPad Air or iPad Air 2 with a Bluetooth keyboard, would you still go for a 12" MacBook, or would you be better off with a 13" Air or Pro?

Yea, I read a number of reviews saying the keyboard needs some getting used to and also one reviewer mentioned that she feels that her wrists tire faster using the new Macbook compared to her current MBA...

Depending on usage. If you comfortable with using it for surfing, minor graphic editing, office work and stuff, it ok. But if you're into video editing like Final Cut Pro X or do web design, apps programming or Motion/After Effects stuff, then Pro is the way to go smile.gif

Hmm, first of all you will need at least 50gb space to dual boots. 2nd, with 4gb ram it's quite okay, but if can upgrade the ram smile.gif

No idea about Windows 8, but for Windows 7, the minimum is 25GB (assuming you disable hibernation, you don't install too many programs and updates, and you set virtual memory to 0). But if you really need Windows on your Mac, 256GB is recommended.

As for the RAM, 4GB is OK based on your usage.

Reviews online mentioning that its quite a big jump on the juices from 1.1ghz to 1.2ghz. No review yet on the 1.3ghz as its a built to order. Assuming the jump from 1.1ghz to 1.2ghz (roughly producing the same juices as the MB air 2014 model), i expect quite a big jump if u take the 1.3ghz.

I feel that i should upgrade the essentials e.g. hard disk & processor as i am gonna have this last for easily another 5-6 years like my current MBP.. New macs does not allow any upgrades, unlike previous gen whereby we can upgrade the ram & hdd ourselves. I don't want my machine to be rendered outdates & useless in 3 years time and having to spend another RM5-6k on another machine just because i wanted to save the extra RM1k now. Having said that, its your choice bro smile.gif

benchmark itself cant really tell the whole story. Anandtech already review on Core M, temperature and OEM play an important role on Core M performance. nod.gif

For example, the 1.1Ghz might have higher performance than 1.2Ghz model if the 1.1Ghz run in cold weather (like snow) and the 1.2Ghz in hot weather (malaysia anyone?). Another thing to consider is if the Macbook already running worm before benchmark? If so then the score will be lower due to the same thermal reason. nod.gif

unless there is a 2 system running in exact condition, it is still hard to judge for now if it is worth it (RM810 for the upgrade). I am waiting for Anandtech for Macbook review based on 2 models before i pull the trigger laugh.gif

*
spot on , my MBA HDD is 128 gb - split it between OS Yosemite & Windows 7 , windows 7 almost consume the other half barely left me with 3-5 gb to spare thus 256 gb with SD card support is recommend.

Also , had experienced windows 8 with 4gb MBA , doesnt work well as it occupied mostly of RAM usage .

Ya, quite disappointed on the review, missed out most important questions. shakehead.gif

1. Like how is it 1.1GHz compared with 1.3GHz (performance, battery life etc)
2. How if compared to 2015 model (mostly in review are 2014 and older)
3. SSD compared with PCIe SSD in 2015 model

your point is right, that why i think upgraded to 1.3-2.9 using core m 5y71 is essential becoz i assume this mac will be use more than 5 years. And about SSD storage i think 256 is enough coz can transfer it to other portable HDD

just look at ifixit

https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Retina+Macb...+Teardown/39841

look like this macbook using toshiba SLC

try search what difference between MLC vs SLC and got this

The main characteristic of MLC flash is its low price, but it suffers from higher wear rates and lower write performance compared with single-level cell (SLC) technology. SLC is faster and much more reliable -- but also more expensive -- and is featured in the best-performing storage arrays.

i just thought this would be better than a bunch of connectors or adapters.
also, they offer in car charger and lighting to usb direct cable.

This would be quite a cool item especially if Apple charges RM299 or an adapter. What more that this comes in an array of ports e.g. ethernet, uSB 3.0 & etc..

Only thing is, does the dock's USB-c support charging of the MB? Since its stated there as data only.

Thanks

Hi all, still waiting for my credit card to be charged. I ordered the Space Grey. Actually using a late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro which is performing beautifully but I just can't get over the form factor and new colours of the new MB. So, current MBP will go to the wife :-)

no point buy a Macbook and upgraded it. Assume the mac can lasts for 5 years, bu we look at 5 years ago, that time iphone 4 was launched now people using iphone 6+, there is a huge improvements throughout the period, for me i rather spend money on standard spec and upgrade it in 2-3 years time

the price point is a pinchy subjective matter.
many will wonder why pay xxxx for MB when u can pay same or less and get MBA/rMBP.
but the thing is, the two products, MB/MBA & rMbp are meant for different users.
those in need of power and substance, shud opt for the latter and push the hardware to the limit.
the MB/MBA is more of style and comfort machine. no power to shout about but all the beauty in the world to brag about.
essentially u are paying for better hardware in the big boys while paying for better engineering in the beauty products.

Base model MBA is equivalent to top end macbook model.
Top end MBA which costs about the same as base model MB will get you some crazy performance. (I have to assume that since its using an i7)
So do you want to sacrifice the display and looks for performance or do you want swag?

the Geekbench 32bit OSX run result seems a bit wider range. If taking 64bit as a reference:

1.1GHz SC ~2400; MC ~4600
1.2GHz SC ~2550; MC ~5200
1.3GHz SC ~2800; MC ~5500

2.7GHz rMBP SC ~3200; MC ~6900
2.9GHz rMBP SC ~3400; MC ~7200
2.2GHz MBA SC ~3150; MC ~6700

For the battery size of 39.7Whr, and 50% lighter than rMBP, not bad at all cool2.gif
Single-core score wasnt so bad at all for 1.3GHz model.

my 2011 MBP 15inch turn very very sluggish, wanted to opt for this new Macbook, but the spec seem like still losing my MBP, so i might be waiting for a newest version of RDMBP tongue.gif

I think Malaysians in general tend to overanalyse, partially because we always want the best but pay the least. laugh.gif

I think it is quite obvious. The price gap between the MB12/MBA13/rMBP13 is very similar. They are all around 10% between each other. Performance wise, MBA13 and rMBP13 is similar while the MB is about 30% less processing power.

MB - Lightest, Can recharge from powerbank/powered usb, decent battery life, retina screen, no fan (cooler and less one component to fail)
MBA - Light, Extra long battery life, better processing power, no retina screen
rMBP - Retina Screen, decent battery life, better processing power.

I think it is quite obvious a person should know which model they need most. I like MB's retina screen and even smaller charger (compared to MBA/rMBP).

All three fall under different market segment although people tend to compare because they are sized quite similarly.

I recently purchased a 1.2/8gb/512GB MB and I'm coming from a 15" rMBP 2012 because 3 years of lunging the 15" around is enough.

Tried everything. Reset PRAM. Transparency reduction. Increase contrast. Every resolutions.

In the end updated to 10.10.4 public preview, helps quite a bit especially for Safari. But still, the UX is not what I expected coming from MBA. Yosemite could use a lot of optimisation. But anyway, it is quite subjective, I have always been anal about UI responsiveness. biggrin.gif

Singapore.
When I first tested it in San Francisco during launch, it didn't feel like that. I wonder if the demo units were 1.3ghz units.
Sigh, now it's really start to get on my nerve because otherwise it's a dream machine.
Gonna check out the Apple Store later to see if their demo units behave the same.
Going to complain or ask for a refund lol.

Yeap. Slight education discount available
If all you need in college is Microsoft words, go ahead.
And get a dock. Unless internet connectivity increases by hundred fold, cloud storage is still troublesome in Malaysia.

Got the 1.2 Ghz. For those wondering if it's laggy. It is certainly NOT. Keyboard is nice. Trackpad is good too. Once you get over sticker shock, this thing is a joy to use. No doubt that version two will be cheaper and will have USB C peripherals available in 6-8 months but the heart wants what it wants.

It's a CoreM. I'm not going to be doing any Video Encoding on it. But certainly for surfing/watching movies/email/MS Office.... This thing does it all very well. I've got no way of transferring files the usual way as the USB C dongles are ALL not available in Machines.

With DropBox and iCloud however I've realized it really is all unnecessary. I've got a buddy picking up some USB C dongles for me at the AppleStore in Hong Kong (hopefully they are available there) but all in all, I'm plenty happy with this machine.

Can give it a try google maps on safari?

My expectation isn't high at all. Just normal surfing, PDF and all. But the UI responsiveness is inconsistent. Sometimes laggy sometimes smooth. Dunno whether is my machine or I should lower my expectation even more.

Thanks bro rclxms.gif

Shall get the 1.2 one to try again.

MacRumors peeps are reporting lagginess as well regardless of spec. Could be a matter of variance/QC issue.

But yes, it was unusable for me especially Google Maps on Safari, or Chrome for the matter of fact.

Web browsing experience isn't that great.

Side by side comparison :
MB 1.3 took 27 seconds to load up a flashy web page, while my i7 MBA 2013 took only 15 seconds to load up the same page.

Just tried the demo set at machines. The online reviews are right - the keyboard will take some getting used to. All in all, it's a sexy beast all right but not for me coz 12" screen too small. Maybe 13" or 14" would be the sweet spot (sorry lah, old uncle, eyes failing already...)

Normal college stuff such as word processing, browsing, watch movie and virtualization with Fusion

I reserve gaming to my future rig. Tho I saw some comments on reddit that it gets slower if the task load are from 3rd party apps such as VLC and Office 11 or 16

Any users would like to clarify that laugh.gif ?

Read the article on Reddit. Adobe Acrobat makes even my custom spec-ed maxed out Retina iMac get down on its knees and stutter. I certainly won't be recommending using it on the CoreM Retina MacBook. I blame the software actually...

Molested the new rMB at epicentre. Kinda small, resembles the size of a netbook due to the screen size. Tho it is super light and the gold option is super sexy.

The keyboard need sometime to get adjusted to as it feels a bit shallow?

My advice, DON'T GET IT!
It can't even load a webpage with flashes smoothly, and scrolling on those webs are sluggish like those Pentium 3 back there. Its not smooth at all.
Restart on my MBA 2013 took 7-10 seconds, but on rMB, it took like 1 minute - with 1/3 times get frozen on dark screens.

BIG NO-NO from me.. It's ur money, it's ur call anyway~ biggrin.gif

Pentium M processor really can't handle much for nowadays' webpage design.

i actually tested my MacBook (1.2 ghz) after I read your post. From shut down, it took 3 seconds to chime after pressing the "on" button. From Then it took another 10 seconds to get to the password screen. After entering the password, 3 seconds to get to the desktop. I don't see any frozen or dark screens.

I'm really glad you're happy with your MacBook Air. I was with mine too... I held off buying this until I had a chance to test the usability of the machine after some reviewers reported it's sluggishness. I see none of that with mine. Granted I don't make it do much heavy lifting but for browsing, typing replies to forums such as this, Microsoft Office work etc - it works just great. It in no way is an iPad with a keyboard.

My advice to those considering this - try before you buy. I've got no regrets with my purchase. It's simply a joy to carry around at work and it takes up hardly any space or weight. Even better than my SurfacePro3 which will now be used only to run the propriety software that I need to use at work and has no Mac equivalent.

Glad your purchase suits your needs, and it performs well with your daily tasks.
The restart i mentioned earlier was from OS X, restart into OS X. Its not crucial anyway, just that the slower boot speed is very much noticeable compared to my MBA.

Yes, i agreed its a elegant and sexy machine that captured mosts attentions included me biggrin.gif
I will replace my MBA with the next gen MB if the next gen is improved and became much more reliable for my daily tasks. Finger crossed, looking forward to it biggrin.gif

Enjoy your new MB biggrin.gif

There will always be a wide range of product for a wide range of people. MB will not fit everyone.

People who wait for the next MB, chances are they will also realize then that the next rMBP is still more value for money. If you think about it, the MB is position where MBA was when it was launched.

People will only buy MB because they want light. The charger is also significantly lighter. People always forget that. Also remember when the USB to USB-C cable is ready, you don't even need to carry a charger!

I think my only issue with lack of USB is my scanner. My printer can be air print but not scanning. I've been using my photo and app so far and it's been good. I Might even go as far as saying that it's faster now.

It is fast enough for my 1.2/512.. I have 183GB worth of email and my mail app does not lag at all. I'm happy with that alone. And my safari and itunes are usually running at the back.

After testing a lot of different rMBs, rMBPs as well as talking to Apple Geniuses everywhere, I can safely say that the UI lag issue lies with Yosemite.

Yosemite in its current state is not good enough for me and there is no option to downgrade for the rMB. Such a pity as the hardware is almost perfect.

Back to MBA with Mavericks it is. biggrin.gif

Well said. I really can't understand the naysayers here. Perhaps the 1.1/256 machine is a completely different beast...

I fully understand a Mac that it too underpowered to be usable. The first generation MacBook Air was exactly this. I bought it and sold it within a month. That is NOT the case with the present MacBook Retina.

Yeah. But in order to get the 0% interest EPP, must buy the ACPP.
Otherwise, Machines will charge u 1% processing fee if I'm not mistaken. Still 0% interest monthly, but just got onetime 1% processing fee.

IF thats the case, then its totally worth the installment. with paying only 1% fee, we can use the capital to invest in FD which generates 3.15% annually (rate as per CIMB Bank).

Besides Machines, if I am not mistaken, Mac City also has that plan available. Although they didn't really advertise it but I bought a iPad mini from them via a 12months 0% instalment plan. But their conditions are the same as Machines. There will be a % which is a transactional fee.

Damn the space gray model is simply tempting. But gotta to agree that rMB so far is meant to be secondary device.

To above 800++ for applecare vs processor upgrade, I will go for applecare, as I had replaced my display for my 2012 rMBP and soon the motherboard, xD! Without applecare, confirm broke till gg. LOL!!

I had issue with my new macbook wifi poor reception, had been working hard with apple support and product specialist over the calls for more than 4 hours.

Apple support was very Pro in troubleshooting and professional way of speaking, but unfortunately wasn't able to solve the issue.

They asked me try to use a 5.0Ghz router to test, but i didn't, because I know I can't ask my office or starbuck to change their router right?

Finally, the situation is getting better after I upgrade from 10.10.2 to 10.10.3.
I am happy now =)

And whether to switch over from my 2012 macbook air base 11" model

I find my MBA laggy these days so worried the macbook retina will be the same (but cost almost double!)

I had the chance to dropby machines to have a look at the new macbook. Damn the gold is sexy. Looks really small and compact. Love the feel of it. Screen is great and sharp.

But the price kinda high. Might need to wait this out...

I was using 2012 rMBP 15" (1st Model) before i changed to MB 1.2/512GB last month.

There are certainly some sacrifices necessary
1. No chance for gaming. My minimum requirement of Football Manager lags when i play it but not unplayable. I can forget about heavier intensity games.
2. I have hundreds of small pdfs in hundreds of folders. There are a second or two lag now when i those open folders*
3. FHD Videos take longer to load*
4. Adobe Programs will lag a lot more*

*Actually they are not that bad but it is like using a iPhone 6 for calls and smses only but when revert back to iPhone 4, there is actually a noticeable lag although not important.

There are some benefits to my everyday life.
1. I now carry my macbook around instead of my iPad air. It is more productive that way.
2. I bought the 512GB so i don't need thumb drives / externals. While people are outrage by the one port, in truth, we should strive to minimise usb ports to be truly portable anyway..
3. I type faster now but sometimes i have problem adapting back to the original keyboard (more mistakes)
4. I can type of my lap while sitting down (Previous rMBP is just too hot) and i can type on a airplane tray.
5. Retina screen matters to me so this alone trumps macbook air. It always feel good to work/type at a brighter and clearer screen despite many saying it does not matter.

There are some unnoticeable difference to my everyday life
1. Primary emails (even with >200k emails and 180GB worth, it does not lag when i open Apple Mail or search)
2. Safari
3. Itunes
4. All of above + Words/Excel at the background, it will not lag.
5. Spotlight (I use this heavily and it doesn't lag)

As i mentioned before this, this MB is meant for a very specific group of people. Especially frequent travellers and people on the go (Professionals like Sales/Project Manager) or even people who uses iPad + keyboard. I certainly became more efficient after switching (Largely because i can no longer game. laugh.gif)

I originally felt the same, nearly wanting to sell once i receive it. Now i got used to it, it is way faster than i used to type. Great stuff. Don't give up on it yet!

Actually the price gap is not much different.

11" MBA with 512GB SSD / 8GB Ram = RM5,467
13" MBA with 512GB SSD / 8GB Ram = RM5,891
12" MB with 512GB SSD / 8GB Ram = RM5,829

Don't be misled by MBA's pricing because of the default design of 4GB Ram

I certainly became more efficient after switching (Largely because i can no longer game. laugh.gif)
*
I'd just like to add that in addition to this the battery life on this is truly phenomenal. I bought a second charger at Machines at Gardens for RM179. Second USB C cable for RM109 so I don't have to bring the charger back from work. All in all, I'm happy with this.

People overlook the significance of the charger.

It is much lighter than the magsafe chargers and should be in consideration vs macbook air (when comparing weight/size)

I probably called almost all the Apple reseller stores in Klang Valley today. No stock for space grey or even gold. Best you can get is silver.

Anyone still able to install Windows 7 on 2015 Macbook Pro?

Just wondering, if anyone tried since Boot Camp no longer support Windows 7 for Macbook Pro 2015 onwards.

Whoever feels that it's sluggish. Get your hands on El Capitan now. Feels like a different machine altogether. Be warned, a lot of bugs.

Don't think u'll need to restart that frequent since it's a Mac.

Got a VGA adapter from the MacStudio in Jaya Shopping Centre. Very nice. Has a USB C power jack and a USB jack too. So just packing that one dongle brings you up to full functionality.

Have done my presentations off this little machine. No issues. Handles video effortlessly too. Seriously - those guys that bemoan the speed of this machine obviously have not used it on a daily basis.

Sour grapes perhaps?

They're both in different categories... But performance wise obviously MBPr is much better. Macbook is great for frequent travellers who wants the small light weight portability while MBPr is a more powerful workhorse.

I always work with google drive using the sheet to organize timetable & scheduling and data storage..

I feel r.mbp doesn't perform well when I use google drive's sheet program.. If I change to this MacBook will it be the same or worst?

Looking forward to get small machine.. As my job just more in excel and Google sheet..

R.mbp when I opened too much of tab its also start getting. Slower my rmbp is 2014 8gb ram@@

I think that's more to do with our Yosemite OS sad.gif
I heard the new El Capitan OS will fix those issues. If you are mainly using for excel and google drive the Macbook is good enough. Your MBPr 2014 should be much faster than the Macbook, but i think it has to do with the OS. If that's the case i think the Macbook will perform worse than your MBPr 2014 IMO.

It's not bad for daily light to medium usage. You can go check youtube, still usable for photo editing and light gaming.

Yeah Chrome does suck more power, especially if you have a lot of tabs open. You can download a tab suspension extension to suspend tabs that you don't access. That way it reduces processing and saves battery

I disagree with the other guy. The base model is shit. OSX 10.10 does a fair bit of swapping and that HDD is just going to make you pull your hairs.

Stay away from regular HDDs if you're going to be using a Mac.

Is this a serious question.. ._. Because you don't even have a USB port or an SD card reader.....
And Aperture is no longer supported by Apple anyways...

probably not the right thread but i'd like to just gauge user interest on you MBP users whether you like the option of submitting your own graphics for customized decals on your MBP and how much you pay?

Yes it is

I don't use my aperture much and only occasionally

I don't mind the SD card absence as I've recently switched to a wifi enabled camera

Aperture is no longer supported but I can still use it as I have not found a better alternative

I like the macbook portability and the retina screen

Can't find a reason to buy the imac as I probably won't use it much

So yes it is a serious question...

Anyone?

It'll run Lightroom fine but don't expect it to blaze through your library like a well spec'ed desktop.

Sounds good. Just worried coz currently my MBA is giving my problems due to storage space. Once it hits low storage space, Aperture tends to give me tons of problems.

I would recommend you against the MacBook... Despite many claims, the macbook is very underpowered..
It's not the notebook if you're going to use Aperture / Lightroom.
I'll recommend the Retina MBP 13 inch which is also lightweight and portable enough.. with much more power than the macbook.
Another thing to consider is.. this is Apple first gen product.. And they're just testing if its gonna work out.. It's not as matured as the MBP/MBA.

You can buy that.. I got an answer from Quora for you

QUOTE
The answer to this is both Yes and No. It really depends...

Contrary to popular belief Photoshop and Lightroom don't require that much power - surely more than Word or Excel but a lot less than typical 3D applications (Maya, C4D, 3ds Max etc.) or a lot of games.

The programs themselves don't require much to run perfectly smooth - it all depends on what you do with these programs and what you expect with regards to speed.

If you are a web designer chances are you're working on relatively small images (that is, images at only a few megapixels) and in that case both programs will run pretty smooth.

But if you're a professional photographer with a camera that produces 20+ megapixel image files then you probably want to get something much more powerful than the computer you mention.

Another thing worth mentioning is that your processor isn't really at work most of the time when you use for example Photoshop or Lightroom.
You use the brush to paint something, then you make a selection and do something with that selection, then you copy a layer and so on... Most of these tasks don't require much of the processor so the overall worktime for a task will depend mostly on your speed working with the program and a lot less on the processor in the PC.
You might be at work 90% of the time only the remaining 10% of the total work time for a task is where you wait for the processor to finish something so that you can continue working.
So doubling your processing power will only result in a tiny reduction of the overall time it takes to do the work.

Depending on how you use Photoshop this might be different.
If you're mainly processing hundreds or thousands of images using actions or other automated processes, then it's a case of your processor being at work 90% of the time and you only 10% of the time - since all you do is select the images and press a button, then you wait for the processor to finish.
If that is your typical workload then you will benefit a lot from a faster processor and you definitely want to skip on the Core M.
One last thing to take into account in this scenario is the overall amount of work you have to do.
For instance if you don't work on more than one project in a day then it might not matter to you that it takes 5 hours for your computer to run Batch processing on a thousand images. But if you have to work on several projects in a day then it will be crucial that a task can be finished in a very short time so that you can start working on the next project.

No matter what processor you get you should make sure that you get 8 GB RAM, having just 4 GB can easily result in some nasty performance impact.
However going  for 16 GB instead of just 8 GB is very unlikely to make any difference at all unless you are working on some extremely heavy stuff and multitasking.

Thanks bro for the tip

The answer from Quora seems to say that the rmb will be sufficient for my needs.

The thing is I find the rmbp super heavy as I'm using a 11inch MBA now. The only issue with my 11inch MBA is the space restraint as it only has 128gb

I put my libraries on an external Hdd but it causes my aperture to freeze alot. Which is annoying.

I love the form factor of the macbook. I can't go any heavier. And I dread having to wait for the revised version but at the same time I don't do much photography work anyway to warrant a powerful macbook like the rmbp

So for me the question is to get the rmb or wait for next gen.

For the price might as well got for Dell XPS 13. Only slightly bigger than rMB but performance/spec wise is much better.

i bought the 1.2ghz and 512gb ssd

Didn't opt for the 1.3 online coz didn't see a need for a small bump in performance.

after transferring my libraries and photos

Aperture 3.6 absolutely FLIES on my 1.2ghz Macbook Retina

The issue i think was the lack of diskspace on my MBA and probably the 8gb of RAM also helps.

But whatever it is, I'm really really happy now that my Aperture actually flies on my mac

after few days using basic macbook, kinda regret with the spec. quite slow for me even for word processing, excel, & ppt.

EDIT: i think its very ok for internet browsing, but for basic work if you're a student, it's just not enough.

core M processors are good low power CPUs but for me I render and edit a lot. Rendering a simple 6min 4K video takes crazy long. It's not a fair comparison but I'd still say it anyway. My 13" Macbook Pro does the same 4K render for about 28 minutes long sometimes 36 depending on what codec I render. the MacBook does it in 1 hour to 1.5 hours. And I do this for almost 5 times a week. I have to wait so long for it to render. But the only good thing is that during the live rendering playback doesn't lag. Seems good enough to me at first. But not really feeling it. Hence, I'm selling mine. Moving up to the big guns.

As which to say, in fact that I am a student actually hahaha. I just do a lot of on subject and off subject edits. I have no objection of waiting on Skylake. But the problem is, Apple already made a refresh this year. I don't see the reason why they would release another refresh 6 months later. That'll piss everyone who bought the early 2015 models off.

At that time, Intel had already announced that Skylake will be released on 2H of 2015 and late deliveries of Broadwell will not affect skylake because they are on a different development cycle. Hence, the rMBP that I bought this year is also called Early 2015. I am sure they would have another refreshed with Late 2015 later this year. They have done so in previous cycles. Their delay is probably to clear out stock. The Skylakes that will be used for both 13" and 15" are already out too.

Fair enough. Wait it is. Plus the revised price is crazy. Wanted to buy the 15" before everything. But Apple Malaysia listed it as out of stock. lel and it turns out it's 11k now. lol

i think the deciding factor between the two Macbook model will be the storage i guess. 256 vs 512.

256 should be sufficient if this is a secondary laptop. Price is quite steep across different storage size.

but 256 is a minimum size required for macbook i guess if one needs it to run bootcamp. good that macbook comes with 256 minimum by default.

hope the 2nd gen of the macbook will be even better as i am looking forward to buy one (space grey). tongue.gif

Hi..I really need help from you guys

I bought my macbook from Switch last July..unfortunately after using it for a month..I detected some dead pixels on the retina screen. So, I brought it to the Switch Service Centre in Penang the next day. After one month, I called them to ask about the progress. To my surprise, they already replaced the entire screen because obviously it is still under warranty.(They never call me when it is fixed on the 10th day)

Then, I checked the new screen..no flaws detected. Happily using it for one more month (October) and again I detected some dead pixels as shown in the attachment below. I took the picture because I have a doubt that they will replace it again. Next day, I send it again and told them about the problem. After 7 days (today), they call me to tell that Apple had reject the application for replacing my screen.

The reason for that is because it is not dead pixels at fault..it is the SCREEN GLASS somehow got damage which for me is unacceptable. Screen glass is not covered under warranty and if I want to replace it..the set will cost me RM1.8k rclxub.gif

I take good care for my macbook the whole time..never drop it..and I can't explain how this could happen. Hope to get some suggestions from you guys what I should prepare or ask when I meet them in 3 days time.

Cheers whistling.gif pardon my English, tried my best sweat.gif

I think like you too..but switch service told me that it isn't..(on phone) something like you can feel it with your finger..so screen glass got something wrong..send picture to Apple and they said the same (lie or not dunno) but I ask more..answer with er..er..er then repeat glass problem..suspicious icon_question.gif

Is it glass chip inside the screen? Actually I suggest u to log a complaint to apple online directly. Apple customer service is good they always side customer and they follow up promptly too.

Haha. Yeah. Compare to the current price + apple care price. The top up is still lower than the price minus off the price of MacBook 12-inch.

if you're used to the screen size of the 15", the 12" would really make you feel unsatisfied.
i sold it off after only using it for 2 weeks, its very portable but the screen size really turned me off.
cant live without those USB ports as well

Actually my ideal screen size will be 13-inch. I should have gone for 13-inch for its balance. In terms of spec, portability, screen, ports etc it is the most balanced one among all other models.

Really so bad? The 12-inch? What's wrong with the screen size? Too small?

It is Retina I tot it is quite good already the screen.

everything looks extra small compared to a 15", 3 years i moved to 15" from 13" because i'd love to work on a bigger screen with more space.

I see. I am using the 15 inch for work too but it is too bulky therefore I regret. Partly also due to the fact that I carry it daily.

If I had chosen a 13-inch initially it will be perfect.

tested the macbook 12-inch keyboard for couple of times, initially will really feel difficult to adapt to it. after few rounds of try, once getting used to the keyboard, actually the typing is not that bad. Of course it cannot compete with macbook pro keyboard, but it is indeed not that bad.

Yes, it is superb portable. Bring to overseas will be damn nice especially use on the flight too. Given the size, it will not be too cramp or uneasy to use given the seat in flight is damn cramp.

Interested to see if there is any major upgrades for 2nd generation.

Considered once to get a MacBook when Apple just announced. Until now still not done so yet. And now the price hiked. Regretted...
Anyway, my MBP 2011 still working, a bit slow though...
I think I will wait till next generation...

cool function. but i think most cases, but the charging will take long time.

from a review i watched before, it said that it takes more than 5 hrs to charge full the macbook using powerbank.

but frankly speaking it is still quite fast.

no pt to get now liao. likely early next year will have refresh of spec, or maybe apple will add more ports (for example one more usb-c?, adding 720p camera instead).

I will get the 2nd gen too immediately when it is out.

gold color looks nice at the beginning. after a while i feel the contrast of the keyboard (black color) against the gold color body of the macbook is not very good comparing to space grey. (just my 2 cents). Think space grey is the best color and most popular color among all.

ur MBP is 4GB ram? i think that could be the reason, if upgrade to 8GB at least i think it will help quite a lot. But the slow traditional SATA hardisk could be the bottleneck too.

for the new PCIe SSD, the speed is superb.

Yalo... But adding another ports is a little unlikely. Unless it sacrifices its thinness.
Upgrading its camera is more likely.

Perhaps they could expand the use of audio jack port as another mode of data transfer? Just like the old 3rd gen iPod shuffle..

I've already upgraded to 8GB when I first bought this MBP. It was EOL product when I bought and Switch upgraded the ram for free as promotion.
1 year later I upgraded the hard drive to SSD as there was some issue. The system (Mountain Lion) hangs/restarted itself.
After the upgrade, the problem solved, but the system didn't get too smooth until Yosemite.
Now I'm using El Capitan, I'm quite happy with this version. I just can't use the continuity and most of the other new features after Yosemite.

adding one more port is totally possible.

macbook air has experienced the same.

from first gen, 1 x usb port and 1 x micro-DVI port to now 2 x usb port, 1 x thunderbot, 1 x SD card slot. Apple from little add back to now acceptable level. weight is also reduced even the thinness. currently what the new retina macbook has is definitely not at its best, apple always keep things for future improvement so it makes the product sellable always due to the improvement year by year too.

MBA is now 1.7cm thick; MacBook is 1.3cm thick. Based on the design, I don't find any possible space to put in another one in the near future, unless Apple is willing to sacrisfice its design or battery...
Another reason that I don't think 2nd port will be added is that MacBook is designed based on portability. Would you plug in many devices when you are outside? I don't.
I do think there is a possibility of upgrading battery life and audio jack as future data transfer port as per 3rd gen iPod Shuffle. The idea was brilliant!

Not sure why. It wasn't like this earlier until Marvericks. Compatibility issue with SSD, perhaps?
Anyway, everything gets better after Yosemite.

i think we can only wait till next year to see how apple will upgrade the macbook. Apple has never failed to give people surprises on all their products such as how macbook beats the all the while thinnest macbook air to become the thinnest macbook now. icon_rolleyes.gif

To me personally, it will definitely be good to have extra ports that come in handy. thumbup.gif

but no matter how, i will sure go for the 2nd gen macbook when it launches to compliment my 15-inch MBP. I need a portable machine to carry around.

If compare price, MBP 13-inch is actually a better deal even that it is a capable powerhaus no doubt.

Can't really compare two different line of Macs.
They serve different purposes and different targeted consumer groups.

If compare price, MBP 13-inch is actually a better deal even that it is a capable powerhaus no doubt.

i think 13 and 12 macbook have a different group of user, for me i mostly like 12 macbook, light, super thin, portable, gorgeous design with gold colour, fan less, superb speaker for tinny laptop, quietly processor, a day battery, can put ur macbook at ur lap almost 4-5 hours without feel hot

1st thing u must know what types of work/tasks you want to do, if you want to edit 4k movie, graphic work (heavily), gaming heavily, i suggest you go for 13 rmbp

for me, i only do on productivity task such as ms office work (word, excel, ppt), emailing with more than 10k mail, surfing, manage my 10gb file mostly document in pdf and ms office inside my dropbox and i think base model 12 macbook with 1.1ghz , 8gb ram, 256gb flash drive done very well on all my task

and i love very much this butterfly keyboard mechanism... my typing speed increase so much

i have the mid-2015 powerhaus 15-inch MBP with the discreet graphic card now already. so it can handle some of my task like running VMs etc. what i regretted is not getting the 13-inch MBP instead as it is quite a powerhaus already with much cheaper price and a lot more portable than 15-inch MBP. if it is not due to this, I probably will just stick to 1 x 13-inch MBP as it has the balance of all.

so I am looking for a portable machine to bring around home and office on daily basis. so the retina macbook is definitely a good choice. thumbup.gif

i think one option for retina macbook purchase is to wait till the 2nd gen and get the refurbished one which it helps to save a bit. of course this depends on the things of upgrade for 2nd gen to justify if it is worth it to save the bucks for refurbished older model.

both retina display, so actually comparable given that the PPI is around the same. 226 vs 220. just 15-inch is bigger screen so more screen real estate.

Hi guys, I quite new to Apple environment (but already own an iPad). Want to ask, whether it is a good time to buy a macbook? Just for programming , surfing and light editing purpose. Which model should I go?

if u need it now, it is a good time. if you think u want it now, you probably want to wait.

macbook pro, air and macbook should be upgrade in Q1 2016 as most speculate.

i am waiting to get the 2nd gen of macbook too.

if price is a concern, getting 2nd hand one is another option also.

best is to wait till new macbook 2nd gen is out you can even consider to buy refurbished to save a bit, refurbished will looks new as the new one too.

but of course, it is always to get the latest version to take advantage of all the updated spec.

Macbook Air 11" Mid 2013 (around 2.1k) vs 13" Early 2014 (around 2.8k), which do you think is better? The price different around RM700. hmm.gif
