QUOTE(nekkidgramma @ Jun 1 2015, 09:08 PM)
Guys. I need help in my quest to find a new laptop.
1. Budget around 2k
2. Brand doesn't matter
3. Must be i5 for, programming and stuff
4. Nvidia 820m or higher for light gaming [Skyrim, Crysis 3, Fallout 3]
5. 15" monitor preferred.

Any ideas otai pandera999icon_question.gif
*
820m is kinda too low for the games that you list. not sure if you can play in lowest setting or not. but due to tight budget, with that entry level notebook, can consider few of these;

Asus A555LD-XX206H (RED) 15.6” , i5-4210U , 4GB , 1TB , GT820M 2GB , W8.1 : RM1940/-
Asus X554LJ-XX104, XX105D (Black , White) 15.6” , i5-5200 , 4GB , 500GB , GT920M 2GB , DOS : RM1930/-
Dell Inspiron 3543 15” , i5-5200U , 4GB , 500GB , GT820M 2GB , DOS : RM2070/-
Lenovo G50-80 80E501W9MJ 15.6” , i5-5200U , 4GB , 1TB , AMD R5-M230 , DOS : RM1950/- **same level with gt820m

QUOTE(louzie @ Jun 1 2015, 11:01 PM)
1. Preferred Brand - anything
2. Budget:2-2.5k
3. Usage: leisure, buisness, light gaming, mainly business
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: anything
5. special requirement , no lags, because the credit card machine and system uses internet explorer and java , would mess up the laptop if its too clunky
*
can consider these business series entry lineup
Lenovo Thinkpad E440 20C5A0JYME 14” , i3-4000M , 4GB , 500GB , Intel HD , W8.1 Pro : RM2130/-
Acer TravelMate TMP246-M-56G8 14” , i5-5200U , 4GB , 500GB , W7Pro + W8Pro : RM2240/-
Dell Vostro 5480 20452G 14” , i5-5200U , 4GB , 500GB +8GB Cache , GT830M 2G , DOS : RM2410/- (W8.1 : RM2500/-) **no optical drive

in case need more portability. with ssd cache, respond time for oppening apps will much faster as well as booting windows time.
Acer Aspire V3-371-52KLw 13.3” FHD , i5-5200 , 4GB , 500GB + 8GB SSHD , Intel HD5500 , W8.1 : RM2320/-
Acer Aspire V3-371-55UXi 13.3” FHD , i5-5200 , 4GB , 240GB SSD , Intel HD5500 , W8.1 : RM2570/-
Asus UX305FA 13.3” FHD , M-5Y10 , 4GB , 128GB M.2 SSD , W8.1 : RM2500/- **need go to the shop and test it.. this processor is the lowest voltage, and might be effect the performance. since it supported by ssd... for computing is ok. but not sure for light gaming for this processor.

QUOTE(aminntm @ Jun 2 2015, 01:53 AM)
1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - below 2k or +- 200
3. Usage - video/picture editing + gaming (most of the time only dota & fifa)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - nothing below 14"

Im hoping to find a laptop that suits both work and gaming. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Hi,

Any opinions on Lenovo Flex 2 14?

14” FHD Touch / i5-4210U / 4GB / Hybrid 1TB / GT820M 2GB / W8.1
*
what is your usage? its seems light for someone who will move around a lot.. and decent storage for keeping movies and good graphic for mild games.

QUOTE(ngeo88 @ Jun 3 2015, 08:44 AM)

i would like to express me gratitude with a proper "thank you" for helping me to choose a notebook for working purpose but secretly a gaming platform.

although i am quite a painful person to deal with, especially with my outrageous requirements (big ram size, good graphic, decent storage, expandable stuffs, removable battery, cooling, etc...) plus my choosy personality taht would nag and whine almost about everything

thanks Pandera999, hamjun0225, devour, and Prince J (plus those had given their thoughts but not tagged here) for the advise and bearing the reasonably unreasonable demands, nags, whine and often childish behavior i had displayed during that time...

Jokes aside. Latitude or thinkpad series has the quality that you need but not the GPU as it is business oriented or the newly launch MSI Prestige or Illegear Q series but budget wise is more la.

Forgot to add on, I prefer a more known brand and one that has international warranty. Budget perhaps 5 to 6k.
*
5-6k.. then razer blade is over budget.. since that laptop fit with your requirement.

Asus also international warranty. Dell need Global Tag Transfer then anything happen, then your warranty on site still valid. you are only eligible for international support upon purchasing the 3 years nbd. Of course, if you planned only to use your laptop for 1 year and then you sell it off, that's another story.

I thought Asus is bad with their aftersales?  hmm.gif

that Dell is abit over budget  sweat.gif
but I will propose to her anyway.

This laptop though,
HP 14-r254TU 14” , i3-4005U , 4GB , 1TB , W8.1 : RM1450/-
will it suffer lags since it only depends on intel graphics?
I mean when heavy-graphics web browsing or heavy-graphics attached in words or things like that?  hmm.gif

thanks in advance  notworthy.gif

nope... nowadays intel integrated graphics performance improve a lot.. heavy web browsing.. sometimes, internet slow also will cause lag... not the computer lag.. but network lag sweat.gif heavy graphic attach? rendering 3D? laugh.gif izit her course related with art and design? photoshop like dat.. hmm.gif jz a normal editting will do.. nod.gif

Do those laptop have integrated graphics to switch to? I dont expect it to last that long playing games on battery, but if doing normal stuff like web browsing or viewing powerpoint, the battery can tahan at least 3-4 hours.

Btw, illegear is a local brand? The quality of their laptop ok or not?
*
not sure its local or not but quality and its brand is outstanding.. :thumb: well basically, yes.. if nt mistaken nvdia hv tech to switch to iG if the gpu not
fully utilised or not even use..

nolah I just thought heavy graphics website can slow down the computer.
if that's the case then okay lo.

but why did you recommend HP & Asus, Acer leh? just curious  hmm.gif
*
ahh... well... the hardware requirement really suite ur usage.. brand does not influence much actually... jz people intend to jump conclusion ths and that brand not good.

basic package. yes. but some only have 30days trial... then it will turn red bar ask for activation/buy even if you buy ori windows. so, laptop comes with windows doesnt mean it comes with full version of Microsoft office . sweat.gif

I thought OC laptop GPU are not recommended since the power delivery on the Mobo are not designed for OC-ing and the power supply does not have a lot of headroom to OC?

I run my C code on linux sometimes 24/7 to simulate for my FEA so good cooling would be a plus since it pushes my CPU/ GPU to 100% at all 4 cores 8 threads. Gaming would be fine because it does not push it to the extreme conditions that I am about subject it to.

That I know of, but I just reading this thread http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-G751JY-T...w.133178.0.html
By seeing all those negative comment, it scares the hell out of me to purchase it, so yeahhhhh  sad.gif

i oc my notebook before.. asus G53SW and X42DE... no problem... 1 gaming type notebook, another 1 is normal type... it runs 100% on cpu/gpu and ram only for few hours.. not 24/7 sweat.gif

but, there is no ppl OC the laptop every month... once the system is stable and optimum performance, then... it does not need to OC it. if u doubt about the model, then.. i suggest.. u go for another model that give same specs.. and much better value of money nod.gif + it will gives u peace of mind by extending the warranty.
