Hi all,

I am buying a new laptop for work for my company, please advice me on what laptop is suitable for me.

1. Preferred Brand: Any trusted brand
2. Budget: Below RM 5k
3. Usage: For Autocad (Full) and travel. So prefer i7, 8gb ram, high SSD or SSHD, good graphics, and most importantly, light weight (<= 2kg).
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 13-15 inch

I actually got my eye on Dell XPS 13 and Latitude 14 7000 but those are a bit pricey if with the specs I want. Just wonder if any other brand have similar specs but lower price and same lightweight. Also search online saying that Dell XPS 13 is quite smooth for use for AutoCAD LT but not for Autocad Full (include 3D), any sifu has any experience on this?

Thanks in advanced all sifus!

for 14" dell 7447 is the best. *mid-end range notebook.. gtx850/gtx950 is ddr3 type compare to gtx860m/gtx960m ddr5.. and of cz ddr5 > ddr3
but if u prefer bigger screen, asus g series is good too... but its better get the one that have gtx960m...

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's too expensive lar. Asked my boss the budget is not that high, so I survey a bit and filtered my choices to items below, can you guys advise if these are good choices or not? Cuz I filtered based on specification I needed only, not sure about the laptop review like services, durable or not, easily heat or not etc.

1) HP Pavilion 14-ab024tx, RM2808, i7, 4GB RAM , 1 TB SATA HDD, Nvidia® GeForce® 940M, 14", 1.96kg.
http://www.techhypermart.com/hp-pavilion-1...v-940m-w8-1.htm

2) Lenovo U41 (never use this brand of laptop before, not sure about the quality) - RM 2861, i7, 4GB RAM, 256G SATA SSD, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT920M 14", 1.68kg.
http://www.techhypermart.com/lenovo-u41-70...6v-gm-w8-1.html

3) ASUS ZENBOOK UX303LN, RM 3868, i7, 12GB RAM, 1TB SATA HDD+24GB SSD, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 840M, 13.3", 1.5KG.
http://www.techhypermart.com/asus-zenbook-...t840m-w8-1.html

4) Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G, RM 3550, i7, 8GB RAM, 1TB + 8GB SSHD, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 860M, 15.6", 2.4kg
http://www.techhypermart.com/acer-aspire-v...x860m-w8-1.html

Out of these options, Asus Zenbook is the one meet my budget and requirement, means I dont have to do extra upgrade to meet my requirement. But I am not sure if this laptop is ok or not, never see anyone recommend it for AUTOCAD.

Option 1 and 2 are my compromised options if option 3 really sucks, but will upgrade them from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM if possible, do you guys know how much normally cost if I want to upgrade to 8GB RAM? Also, how much cost to get a 256gb SSD or SSHD?

Option number 4 is my last choice since it is so heavy (2.4kg), but just keep as a backup plan.

Thanks in advanced all sifus, sorry for the long query.

erm, if you gonna use it for fully utilised autoCAD, that Acer is your best choice.. because the others you mention is using dual core only... ulv processor.. so.. rendering 3D on those processor will cause certain errors or slow processing of the 3D unit... except that Acer v nitro.. acer v nitro using pure quad core processor that makes autoCAD can fully utilised due to quad core hyper threading technology..

Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-78A2 15.6 IPS FHD , i7-4720HQ , 16GB , 1TB+128GB SSD , GTX960 4GB W8.1 : RM4399/-
features with SSD... try check for it..

btw your budget is 5k and below or 4k and below? i refer to your first post sweat.gif

try check Illegear Q3 13" 1.9kg only. at rm4299, specs can be customised too. this will give you advantage and best bangs for bucks thumbup.gif

Well, do note slim/ultrabook has soldered RAM so you might not be able to upgrade it and it will run slower in autocad because of the ulv processor. For autocad just like what pandera999 has said, the best is the Acer. SSD for now is around RM2/1GB but do look for LiteON SSD model it is much lower in price.

Thanks both. notworthy.gif

Sorry haha, I initially put budget as below 5k, after check with boss is below 4k. sweat.gif sweat.gif
Illegear is too expensive for me I think, the Q3 RM4299 is without operating system, if need them to install need add RM300++ = RM 4600++ alr, too pricey. shocking.gif

In that case, I think I may have to compromise on the weight. cry.gif cry.gif In that case now I have two options:

1) LENOVO Y50-70-2223, ~ RM 3900 (from lowyat trade post), i7-4720HQ, 16GB, 1TB HDD+ 8GBSSD, NVIDIA® GeForce® 960M , 15.6", 2.5kg, warranty 2 years or

2) Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G, RM 3999 (for ACER official website), i7-4720HQ, 8GB, 1TB + 8GB SSHD, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 960M, 15.6", 2.4kg, warranty 1 year.

Personally more prefer Acer V Nitro cuz it got better review in after sales services. But with similar price, I can get 16gb for LENOVO, so..any comment?

I may want to upgrade the HDD with 256GB SSD, as I am really noob in computer stuff, is this one compatible with both laptops above? PX-SCS-256L9S (NEW) - LITEON 900S 256GB SSD SATA3 - RM 380

I cannot comment on the build quality of the laptops you listed, having not owned either of them.

However, on paper, the Lenovo looks like the better value buy.

That SSD should be compatible as long as there are no warranty stickers on the chassis of either laptop preventing you from meddling with their innards

Well,

Lenovo has QC problems and bad screen

While Acer has better screen. QC seems to be ok.

Also, yes the SSD should work with the laptops.

Anybody can recommend for me the laptop which has the most affordable price to play FIFA 16 (and hopefully 17, 18) ? I prefer at least 8GB RAM and 14" display. Thanks.

for that budget... to get ips display is kinda hard. + heavy gaming requirement. 15" with good cooling system. you will need a big stretch budget for that.

you have limited budget but your usage and requirement is kinda over budget  sweat.gif
unless you willing consider this and stretch up to 500.

I was about to pick the Lenovo Y50 but when i searched up the reviews for it, I found that it has only 61% sRGB and 50% AdobeRGB hmm.gif
Does it matter for a graphic designer? I don't want my prints to be off colour from the screen ohmy.gif
