Hi,

Recently I took out the heatsink of my processor to clean it up. I cleaned up the heatsink and the thermal paste as well. Now, i put the heatsink back without thermal paste this time

temperature:

processor zone = 60 - 65 (loaded) deg
system zone 1 = 37 deg
system zone 2 = 40 deg
processory fan = 3450rpm

P4 @ 2.8Ghz, is this normal ?

Whut u really wanna ruin ur cpu ka? 60-65 deg is quite a lot but not enuff 2 burn ur cpu yet....

if E then Ok. No problem. try getting urself used to it.
if C, change ur HSF lor.

it can even reach up to 70deg when i play game it's been running well for 1 month though.

noob question, why do i need the paste in between the heatsink and the cpu ?

Well the paste is needed to transfer the heat from ur cpu to the heatsink, n it eliminates the probability of having air pockets between ur cpu n heatsink due to microscopic grooves on the surface of the heatsink...

Load between 60 - 63 is still ok for the temp but if 65 feel like a bit higher for that.No worry actually still becasue in safe state.You are advised to put thermal paste between the CPU and heatzink.

Why so stupid?
The thermal paste is the most important part in cooling...

Last time, i've got a pc from customer, it's an old old athlon processor...

850Mhz if i'm not mistaken...
I've used PC Wizard to check the temperature...

And it's quite high...
About 70celcius i think...

With the stock heatsink, without any thermal paste....

Then, i put some "cap ayam" brand thermal paste, the white one...
And the results?

55celcius after using thermal paste...

The conclusion:
Use thermal paste...

not really. i'm wasn't using thermal paste last time on the stock heat sink. but i do regularly wash the heatsink so my temp is around 35 - 55 celcius. thermal paste can further cool down by 1-2 degrees. but it all depends on the case flow. no air flow no good cooling. even when i changed to ninja temp 32-48 celcius, still i stay away from those cheap thermal paste. cause once the cheap paste gets harden, its hard to remove it unless you warm up the processor for some time. no to mention the paste is messy.

as for threadstarter, i think, you should also consider on workin your case flow

Tell people to concentrate on airflow and not put thermal paste wor....first time man. lol

na.. i didn't mention of not applying thermal paste to the threadstarter. just clarifying my discovery. its up to think about it. i'm not into extreme overclocking. but i'm certainly interested in cheap cooling setups. A poor man will always seeks the cheapest and meanest way of cooling.

Its not that, just that thermals paste is one of the most important ingredient in getting good contact between the CPU and heatsink. And you are just going againts that man......

Moreover thermal paste is CHEAP! lol

thermal paste is important.... the quantity u applying it is more important...too thick = bad result... too little not good as well....

not much. but consider if you tidy up cables, you dun even have to pay a cent right?

well consider everyone is debating the need of thermal paste i guess there's nothing more for me to post here. god bless~

but i think thats why the heatsinks are usually clamped down really hard onto the processor , so to push the thermal paste as flat as possible

Well, thermal paste proved to decrease CPU temperature.

BEFORE: 60 deg C

AFTER: 40-45 deg C

Wanna turn back to not using thermal paste?

hehe...tat day just took out the heat sink.cause dirty liao..processor running idling bout 57 C...then clean clean..then put back with just little of thermal paste....shit...it running 65 C without even load windows....

then search on9 for best way to apply thermal paste....then do it again..now my processor is idling at 40 C....under load is bout 57 C only... thermal paste is important...but hav to apply the right way

the temp will go down a bit more when its fully cooked@matured a bit...
