Navy to Launch Autonomous, Swarming Drones (VIDEO)

user posted image

QUOTE
The program is called Low-Cost Swarming Technology (LOCUST) and will include a cannon-like device, or "tube-based launcher" that will fire up to 30 synchronized drones within one minute in rapid succession. When airborne, the drones will unfold their wings and will be able share information with each other to collaborate on both offensive and defensive missions.

The purpose of the UAV swarms will be to provide Marines with a tactical advantage, as they will be able overwhelm adversaries by launching strikes from different locations and provide surveillance information.

The Office of Naval Research (ONR), which is behind the LOCUST program, announced on Tuesday plans to demonstrate the system’s launch of 30 synchronized drones next year. ONR released a video illustrating how the program will work.

Indian Army sends contingent to take part in Moscow Victory day celebrations

user posted image

A 71-member marching contingent of the Indian Army will take part in the 2015 Victory Day Parade in Moscow's Red Square on May 9, an event that would be witnessed by President Pranab Mukherjee.

This is the first time that the Indian Army is taking part in the Moscow Victory Day Parade, which is held to mark the day of Nazi Germany's surrender to the erstwhile Soviet Union in 1945.

Defence sources said that a contingent of 75 soldiers from the Grenadiers Regiment will be visiting Moscow next month for the event. While 71 would march, four will be on standby.

Russia's role in the recent crisis involving Crimea has prompted a number of western nations that had fought in World War II on the Allied side to not participate in this year's celebrations.

ZH-05 from first impression looks viable as a service weapon, very streamlined and simple with decent weight & bulk/size compared to hulking overweight montrosities like other countries' OICW systems. laugh.gif

Indonesian air force F-16 jet catches fire on take-off

Published on Apr 16, 2015 11:11 AM

JAKARTA - An Indonesian air force F-16 jet caught fire after failing to take off at the Halim Perdanakusuma airport in Jakarta Thursday.

Indonesian media reports said the F-16 with the tail number TS-1643 caught fire at about 8.20 am local time (9.20 am Singapore).

The Kompas news portal reported that the right wheel of the plane was dislodged and the tail end of the plane caught fire after it attempted to take off. Photos on social media and Indonesian news websites showed the plane engulfed in smoke, although it was not badly damaged.

No injuries were reported. Reports said the pilot of the plane was able to quickly evacuate and the fire was put out by officers on the scene.

speaking of which, did anyone notice that the Russians are developing their next-gen Sukhois based on the Su-30-MKMs as a base, instead of their own base?

Did Malaysia's spec outdo their "top spec" which they refused to sell to us in the first place?

Yes.. the SU-30SM is based on development data from MKI and MKM variant but replaced with russian components of the same system

By far our MKM variant is the most complex of the su-30 series, Not in term of technology but integration of several western and russian system together. Some even say the MKM is the golden plated version of the su-30 series

there an article posted by one forummer here before saying that the russian want to keep the two prototype MKM at their Irkut plant
could be atreyuangel or yinchet, i not sure which of them posted this before hmm.gif

Plus, the news T50 is also said to based on the su35/30 with some outer modification to enable some stealth feature. Considering how similar they look it not surprising

Saja wanna join. Also shows Moscow you sorta have their back, especially now western world not so on good terms with Russia.

Last time in 2010 even US and British Army also join, but that time west-Russia relations are much better. biggrin.gif
