QUOTE(AmmoShaf @ Nov 19 2012, 09:16 PM) Hi guys, I am starting to eat a lot and frequently and thanks to Nezzy for his post in the second page now I can choose the right food to gain weight. Actually, the bulking up stage is when you are eating more than you calorie maintenance. By eating more that maintenance, you can fuel you muscle with enough calorie and protein to grow, if you engage those muscle through workout in the first place. If not, all of them becomes fat.I start to ate chicken breast, granola bars, oats, and nuts. You guys can suggest me other good food that can help me gaining weight. I believe this is the "bulk up" stage that always been said by bro DL. I would really like to go to gym so that I could get some shape rather than being fat because of eating. The problem is I have zero knowledge about the gym thing, not enough $ to pay for a trainer and I stay in Nilai(no LYN members to assist). And the good side is I want to do it, I really do. I can read all the note and technique of bodybuilding in the internet but end up doing it wrong and will affect me. So how do you guy suggest? About going to the gym, my advices would be, choose a good beginner routine. You can go HERE for workout routine compile by DL himself or I would suggest you to read about Stronglifts 5x5. A good strength routine for beginner that would teach you a lot of compound movements which is good for beginner. It has detailed video explanation on how to perform each exercise correctly. There you go. You have your workout routine and a virtual trainer and there are a lot of coaches in H&F. Goodluck =) |

QUOTE(Decky @ Nov 23 2012, 05:25 PM) After starting a strength training program in the gym for a few months and spamming food (only started taking some whey halfway through because braces prohibit me from eating alot of tough meat)... I reached 65kg from 56kg when I started. Still a long way to go, but I think I'm gaining fat on the way! It is NORMAL to gain fat along with muscle mass. The only difference is that how much fat you gain on your current diet. If you use dirty bulk kind of diet where the motto is 'eat everything in front of your eyes', then surely you'll gain a lot of fat (actually, you consume a lot of calorie surplus). But if you consume around 500kcal calorie surplus using the clean bulk technique, the fat gain is minimal. Yes, you still gain fat but it is much lesser than dirty bulk. Also I do adhere to a really strict sleeping pattern. I can't get 8 hours a day or more on the weekdays, but I do get a minimum of 7hrs 15mins (really minimum) of sleep every day. I used an online calculator (link from the link from alien9's siggy) and apparently my BF% is now at 11%. Idk if it's good or bad for a skinny person like me, but I do find myself developing a layer of fats on my belly (no abs even on a skinny person). I think my workouts should be fine, with all the heavy compound movements I'm doing maybe the energy store is a good thing. But my question is about diet. Previously I was told to whack the food only by a forummer since I was so skinny, so I felt no guilt eating delicious fried food and cola's... Does my BF% mean no more fried food and soft drinks (cutting down on the soft drinks because of diabetes though, didn't think it will get fats)? Can't imagine a life without fried food and bacon... So, you can eat what you want but keep in mind that 80kg body with 20% bf is 'ugly' compared to 75kg with single digit bf. |

QUOTE(keegan @ Dec 10 2012, 01:10 AM) Hi there. Neat stuffs you got there with your BMR, TDEE and your daily meal planning. There are few things that I can comment/add on.1. Weight training is a must. Why? Because, if somehow you do managed to consume your target daily calorie intake, all those extra calorie will goes into fat mass. Having a heavier body but with a lot of fat isn't a good view and experience. 2. As per what Darklight said, calorie is king when you are bulking. You can eat calorie dense food such as almonds (basically any type of peanuts), high fat milk (protein + fat). For protein, you can always go for more eggs (I consumed 5 eggs daily), whey protein (if you can't meet your protein requirement). 3. Since you are a vegetarian, it is quite hard to meet the protein requirement (cause most protein requirement comes from meat, chicken, fish) hence the need for whey protein (whey, not mass gainers). |

QUOTE(pacowilson @ Dec 11 2012, 06:42 PM) One caution for those guys want to increase the weight. Do not over eating too much food, this will damage your body health. What happened to you? Protein makes you fat?One years ago, I'm 50kg only with height 166cm. Now I'm 63KG, but I'm suffering intake too much protein, even I do training 3 times per week, over eating cause sever problem for my health. So my suggestion is asking to your doctor or coach, before embarking on weight gain. |

QUOTE(zeroice328 @ Dec 14 2012, 05:32 PM) do cereals in the morning.. veggies without rice for lunch.. and oatmeal with fruits for dinner or just fruits.. plus exercise every other day.. you will be slim in no time! Yeah. You'll lose a lot of water weight, you'll lose a little bit of fat but what most important thing is that you'll lose your muscle which is the calorie burning factory in your body. Using this kind of diet will be counter productive in a long run because your weight loss will start to diminished and you'll gain weight very easy. |

QUOTE(dealer.merchant @ Dec 16 2012, 09:03 AM) Hey guys, since Nov 14 till today (Dec 16) I've gained 4kgs (71kg now) using gain weight plan (got skip sikit sikit la ) . Very mahal to maintain.... Take it slow. If you are aiming for weight increase via fat mass, 10kg a month can. But if you aiming for all those weight gain from muscle mass, there are certain amount of muscle mass you can gain in a month. How much? Depends on the person but it is not much.Is it normal to gain 4kg a month or still can do better? Anyways, is there an iPhone app that show us which food gives more carbs / proteins / and etc? |

QUOTE(zeronova @ Jan 6 2013, 10:36 PM) Hello experts, I've been trying to gain weight for awhile now but no result and always end up staying at the same weight or drops. Hey man. I have the same height as you but my weight is at 90kg +. Wanna trade some fats? Hahaha. I would really want to be thin 168cm/ 43kg (extremely underweight) BMI: 15.2 BMR: 1382 RMR: 1400 The total calories needed for me to maintain is : 1680/day Exercise work: Rarely, I do have dumbbells at home but I don't exactly know what exercise is suitable for weight gaining. I used to go for marathon and loves jogging but I stopped about a year ago. Health problems: Eczema, quite serious, can't take in too most seafood except fish. Objectives: Attaining a normal BMI/ 65kg I have very limited access to foods that can provide sustainable amount of calories. What I have at home; Bread, oats, eggs, milk, manuka honey, cereals (not imported ones), jams. I need advice on what I need to eat and how much I need to as I've been going nowhere for quite a long time. Thank you Seems that you've done your homework and that's a good way to start your weight gain journey. Mind if I ask you, are you a student? Your food availability seems to be indicating it. What I would suggest is to go for a good food high with calorie. Spaghetti + lots of pasta + cheese would be a very good idea. High in calorie, should be high in protein (if you make the sauce with minced meat and cheese). |

QUOTE(zeronova @ Jan 6 2013, 11:34 PM) Yes a student, just finished SPM so I have alot of free time now Actually you can add anything into it as long as it is a protein source. However, if you only increase your food consumption without doing any exercises, all the weight gain would be fat and it is not a good sight to see.Can I add in bacon into the sauce? or shredded chicken breast would be better? What I would suggest is for you to venture into weightlifting. Combine with sufficient food + good exercises routine, you can add valuable muscle mass into your body frame. Which one do you prefer? 1. To have weight at 75kg but fat, lazy, might be forever alone, lack of social life (due to not so good appearance) 2. To have weight at 75kg where ladies ask you 'awak bersenam ke?'. |

QUOTE(zeronova @ Jan 6 2013, 11:46 PM) That should be the obvious choice. If you want to be able to do that, few threads can start you up.1. Bodybuilding Routine by Darklight79 2. Nutrition (refer to my link in the signature area). That shouldn't cover all but it will get you to start. Read more and don't hesitate to ask questions |

QUOTE(JusticeDeserves @ Jan 24 2013, 03:16 AM) Hey guys.. im about 190cm,weighing 82 kg. What's the kind of change you have in mind? Whatever it is, if there's no change at all, the main reason would be the diet. You ain't eating enough and by enough is that you need to consume more than you burn.I gym 4 days a week with routines as such Monday:Chest,Bicep Wednesday: Back, Tricep Friday: Shoulders, Calf Sunday: Thighs, and alot of cardio The issue im having is its been 4 months since i started gyming, with the aid of mass gainers and protein..There have been no significant change.. Anyone can recommend eating diet to build mass and muscles? |

QUOTE(JusticeDeserves @ Jan 24 2013, 03:23 AM) Is oats a healthy meal? If lets say i have 4 meals a day..The lunch being the rice and etc..night 4 chicken breast in soup and morning is eggs and cereals..and in between is oats.. There is this value that each human have and different from each other. It is called BMR. From that, you can get the amount of calorie maintenance you have. Calorie maintenance is the amount of calorie needed to maintain your weight. Eat more than that, you'll gain weight. Eat less than that' you'll lose weight.Whats your take on that eating pattern?Eating alot of oats is good? since heavy in carbs Depending on your goal, you need to find your calorie maintenance and add or reduce the intake. Then after you found out your target calorie intake, you need to consume food and meet the target calorie each day. How to found out about it? Refer to my signature about BMR, TDEE and nutrition. |
