I have an idea, to start switching the terms used.

In future I'll probably reply, no such thing as eating alot.

Alot / little is relative.

Basically, eating the right for your needs.

This should stop some irrelevant questions.
*
That's a good idea but a much better idea would be for every hardgainer to actually spend some of his/her precious time to read the stickies which apparently they don't. So, a one liner reply like mine would be relatively good enough compared to the time they spend reading the sticky tongue.gif

For about one month ago, i gained about 6 kgs and my muscle is growing. I notice my limit for my weight is about 60kg. Idk why cannot increase anymore . But having muscle and bigger body boost my confidence for my presentation in class. but nowadays my weight is decreasing about 2kg due to stress environment and no time to eat. Gain weight and building muscle is not easy for medical student. I only manage to go gym every weekend instead of every 2 days. Imagine your class start at 8 and finish at 7+ and only have a break from 1pm to 2pm and everyday you have 3 lab reports to be done. But i take it as challenge and will never give !

my target for the next 3 months : 65kgs and much bigger muscle
*
If you still eating the same amount of food while you were below 60kg, surely you cannot gain weight.

The science behind it is that, your BMR increased as your muscle do. Simple meaning is that, if you need to eat 2500kcal to gain muscle mass by 3kg, to gain another 3kg of muscle mass, you need to eat more than 2500kcal a day as your BMR will increase.

That is why pro bodybuilders need to eat a lot of food (more than 5000kcal a day) due to amount of muscle mass the body have.

I think gene plays a part too? My father side many kurus including my dad. I try to eat a lot too , but never really gaining significantly.
*
Your gene do have an effect on your metabolism but I can guaranteed 100% that it won't affect your ability to eat a lot to gain weight. You just need to know the correct amount of food to eat, that's all.

QUOTE(Harfan @ Dec 9 2013, 01:54 AM)
hey guys. I'm about 169 cm, 58 kg and a small framed body. I'm quite athletic and my body is fit, but still considered as skinny at my age (21). I've been doing basic workout regularly (push-ups, dumbbell exercises and sit-ups) at home and I can notice a little bit of improvements on my body.

My goals is to build an overall bigger body, and I know that I needed supplements. Which supplements do I need (weight gain? muscle gain? mass gain?) and thanks in advance.

^well, I've been reading for quite some time now. and they all points out supplements for a little bit quicker results.
*
Apparently the source of your read might be not entirely correct, unless you are reading supplement advertisements which surely says that supplement is needed.

The most important thing is diet or also known as nutrition. Without proper diet, you'll may not grow even if you consume whatever supplements out there.

I'm one of those people with low appetite and it's hard for me to actually eat like 6 times a day. I made a homemade calorie shake and drink it throughout the day, I got like 2000kcal from it another 500-700cal from eating some meals throughout a day.
*
Who actually suggested you to eat 6 times a day?

Hey there.. new to this part of the forum.. smile.gif

My bro is trying to gain weight, he's having a tough time packing the pounds. I stumbled upon this uk series called "supersize vs superskinny", really interesting show. Most superskinnies don't know that they were eating too little, I was surprised actually. I didn't know people could actually undereat... O.o And most superskinnies have demanding jobs, one even handle two jobs. I guess with our busy OT culture here some peeps might forget to eat..
*
Those superskinnies that tried to pack their weight always says this "I eat a lot, a lot more than my other family". Guess what, they didn't eat much at all OR they eat a lot for a day and fast for the other 6 days of the week.

Eat a lot MORE and consistent, that's they key. Most people that eats a lot usually eats a lot for a day and 'fast' for the rest of the week.

Genetics oso play an important role. If yr family r tall and lanky, then obviously it'll be very hard 4 u to be bigger in size. Heard frm my relative dat one may grow fat when he/she bcomes a middle-aged person. So, dun fret, yet...  brows.gif

QUOTE(superwonderwomen @ May 30 2014, 11:15 AM)
ya, agree with de statement .
dun expect to gain ur other half even he is skinny.
and the his parent side is skinny size.

Don't put a blame on genetic when you are the one who didn't put enough effort to grow big. If your whole family is stupid, do you stay stupid for the rest of your life or you wait till you are middle-aged then you become intelligent.

Don't spew nonsense please.

I dun agree. Those who put in 100% to grow big doesnt mean dat he/she will change frm a skinny person to a big, muscular person. He/she will develop more muscles, just that.  Read dis-http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/becker3.htm  Being stupid has many types, depending on wat r u referring to~ Some people arent born smart. Do u think everyone is born wif an IQ like Leonardo Da Vincci or Albert Einstein? Do u think a person can control his or her IQ at ease? If u still insist on yr ignorant "If your whole family is stupid, do you stay stupid for the rest of your life or you wait till you are middle-aged then you become intelligent. " argument, then well, u r discriminating against those wif mental disabilities~  unsure.gif
*
The link you gave are talking about body type. Yes, that can't be changed because it's genetic. It shows that the amount of muscle you can gain and the pros and cons for each body type. Not the inability to grow.

But the inability of eating more and putting blame on genetic because you father mother grandfather and all you ancestor are thin skinny and twig is just plain wrong. Everyone can grow big from being thin, they just need to learn what to eat, how much to eat and what to do. That's all.

Your previous comment on

"Genetics oso play an important role. If yr family r tall and lanky, then obviously it'll be very hard 4 u to be bigger in size. Heard frm my relative dat one may grow fat when he/she bcomes a middle-aged person. So, dun fret, yet... "

shows that it's ok to be the same as your family because hell, it's genetic. No need to put effort on changing your body because hell, it's genetic. Let's put a blame on genetic and you'll be content with you non-visible effort you've made to progress. wink.gif

Perhaps I caused dis misunderstanding by not stating it clear enuf. I didnt say dat its not worth d effort to try to gain weight. Putting in lots of effort to achieve a much better body size is definitely something worthwhile to do, but to expect someone who's like d size of a toothpick to transform into a pencil is near impossible. Also, I'm not encouraging people to blame their body frame to genetics at d first possible moment. I was juz saying genetics is a factor dat may determine wat body type u r now. It's juz an explanation, not an excuse~

LOL here's hoping that you are not being sarcastic!

So basically there is no weight gain pill, produced by reputable drugs company?
*
NOPE. Unless the scientist are the level of compressing a whole chicken to a size of a pill, no there isn't a weight gain pill out there.

The only thing that can make you gain weight is calorie which you can get from almost every food available on this planet earth. You want to gain weight, just eat them.

For some of us, is the reason we cant gain weight caused by genetic factor ?

No matter how much we eat healthy, or work out, we cant just get fatter/fitter..
*
Nope. Utterly bullshit. Unless you can give us proof that:
1. You've calculated your Daily Calorie Intake correctly.
2. You've consumed adequate food to grow by creating calorie surplus.

yet you still won't grow, I'll trust you. But before that, it's bs.

been eating 5 times a day compared to 3 times a day for the past 3 months. i've exercised 2-3 times a week, once during weekends and the others during early morning in weekdays before going to work (went to the park at 5am lol... i'm too shy and tired to exercise post-work). my workouts consist of bodyweight stuff like push-ups, pull-ups and stuff. the park that i went got these outdoor gym like rowing machine, chest pump-up and whatnot so i try to utilize them as much as possible.

last month i weigh myself at the mall and i only get 1 pound (0.5kg) increment from 62kg to 62.5kg. disappointing... i'll weigh myself again early next month/year. hopefully i'll add another 2 pounds this time.  *finger crossed*

i'm 175cm btw. my BMI is normal (around 20) but i wanna increase my weigh to 68-70kg (BMI 22).
*
1. Get a proper training routine.
2. Consume a proper diet.

That's what happened when people too obsessed with number. Doea your friend have a sticker on her body saying she have ideal bmi? I guess it's much more comforting that way instead knowing that she gained pure 5kg of fat which will lead to whatever diseases linked witb that.
