Today's Gospel reading for Mass, the Transfiguration of Christ; Luke 9:28b-36 ...
Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen. This post has been edited by khool: Feb 21 2016, 08:27 AM |

Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection?
![]() I never noticed this...SOOOO GLAD I TOOK THE TIME TO READ THIS! The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed separate from the grave clothes. Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!' Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see.. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side. Was that important? Absolutely! Is it really significant? Yes! In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it.. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished. Now, if the master were done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, 'I'm done'. But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because........... The folded napkin meant, 'I'm coming back!' HE'S COMING BACK!!!! God bless! Source: https://www.facebook.com/WeAreCatholics/pho...4558028/?type=3 |

WE WALK BY FAITH NOT BY SIGHT. O YOU FOOLISH GALATIANS WHOM BEFORE YOUR VERY EYES CHRIST IS PORTRAYED AS CRUCIFIED AMONG YOU.
But you are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of angels, And to the church of the firstborn, who are written in the heavens, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new testament, and to the sprinkling of blood which speaketh better than that of Abel. See that you refuse him not that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke upon the earth, much more shall not we, that turn away from him that speaketh to us from heaven. Whose voice then moved the earth; but now he promiseth, saying: Yet once more, and I will move not only the earth, but heaven also. And in that he saith, Yet once more, he signifieth the translation of the moveable things as made, that those things may remain which are immoveable. Therefore receiving an immoveable kingdom, we have grace; whereby let us serve, pleasing God, with fear and reverence. For our God is a consuming fire. ![]() |

So are you Christian or Catholic?
Let's break it down. A Christian is "one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ" (Thank You Merriam Webster). If you've ever heard a Catholic talk about their faith, I think it's safe to say that they've mentioned Jesus. As Catholics, we believe in God and we believe that he sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. We profess this belief through our actions and literally through our words as we recite the Nicene's Creed (adopted by a number of Christian denominations) every Mass. So to answer your question, "Am I Christian or am I Catholic?" Yes. |

Enter through the narrow gate for wide is the gate that leads to destruction.
Once saved always saved is a very very very wide gate. Irenaeus disciple of Poly Carp who was a disciple of John the apostle. Christ did not abrogate the natural precepts of the law, but rather fulfilled and extended them. He removed the yoke and bondage of the old law, so that mankind, being now set free, might serve God with that trustful piety which becomes sons. 1. And that the Lord did not abrogate the natural [precepts] of the law, by which man is justified, which also those who were justified by faith, and who pleased God, did observe previous to the giving of the law, but that He extended and fulfilled them, is shown from His words. For, He remarks, it has been said to them of old time, Do not commit adultery. But I say unto you, That every one who has looked upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:27-28 And again: It has been said, You shall not kill. But I say unto you, Every one who is angry with his brother without a cause, shall be in danger of the judgment. Matthew 5:21-22 And, It has been said, You shall not forswear yourself. But I say unto you, Swear not at all; but let your conversation be, Yea, yea, and Nay, nay. Matthew 5:33, etc. And other statements of a like nature. For all these do not contain or imply an opposition to and an overturning of the [precepts] of the past, as Marcion's followers do strenuously maintain; but [they exhibit] a fulfilling and an extension of them, as He does Himself declare: Unless your righteousness shall exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:20 For what meant the excess referred to? In the first place, [we must] believe not only in the Father, but also in His Son now revealed; for He it is who leads man into fellowship and unity with God. In the next place, [we must] not only say, but we must do; for they said, but did not. And [we must] not only abstain from evil deeds, but even from the desires after them. Now He did not teach us these things as being opposed to the law, but as fulfilling the law, and implanting in us the varied righteousness of the law. That would have been contrary to the law, if He had commanded His disciples to do anything which the law had prohibited. But this which He did command— namely, not only to abstain from things forbidden by the law, but even from longing after them— is not contrary to [the law], as I have remarked, neither is it the utterance of one destroying the law, but of one fulfilling, extending, and affording greater scope to it. 2. For the law, since it was laid down for those in bondage, used to instruct the soul by means of those corporeal objects which were of an external nature, drawing it, as by a bond, to obey its commandments, that man might learn to serve God. But the Word set free the soul, and taught that through it the body should be willingly purified. Which having been accomplished, it followed as of course, that the bonds of slavery should be removed, to which man had now become accustomed, and that he should follow God without fetters: moreover, that the laws of liberty should be extended, and subjection to the king increased, so that no one who is converted should appear unworthy to Him who set him free, but that the piety and obedience due to the Master of the household should be equally rendered both by servants and children; while the children possess greater confidence [than the servants], inasmuch as the working of liberty is greater and more glorious than that obedience which is rendered in [a state of] slavery. 3. And for this reason did the Lord, instead of that [commandment], You shall not commit adultery, forbid even concupiscence; and instead of that which runs thus, You shall not kill, He prohibited anger; and instead of the law enjoining the giving of tithes, [He told us] to share Matthew 19:21 all our possessions with the poor; and not to love our neighbours only, but even our enemies; and not merely to be liberal givers and bestowers, but even that we should present a gratuitous gift to those who take away our goods. For to him that takes away your coat, He says, give to him your cloak also; and from him that takes away your goods, ask them not again; and as you would that men should do unto you, do unto them: Luke 6:29-31 so that we may not grieve as those who are unwilling to be defrauded, but may rejoice as those who have given willingly, and as rather conferring a favour upon our neighbours than yielding to necessity. And if any one, He says, shall compel you [to go] a mile, go with him two; Matthew 5:41 so that you may not follow him as a slave, but may as a free man go before him, showing yourself in all things kindly disposed and useful to your neighbour, not regarding their evil intentions, but performing your kind offices, assimilating yourself to the Father, who makes His sun to rise upon the evil and the good, and sends rain upon the just and unjust. Matthew 5:45 Now all these [precepts], as I have already observed, were not [the injunctions] of one doing away with the law, but of one fulfilling, extending, and widening it among us; just as if one should say, that the more extensive operation of liberty implies that a more complete subjection and affection towards our Liberator had been implanted within us. For He did not set us free for this purpose, that we should depart from Him (no one, indeed, while placed out of reach of the Lord's benefits, has power to procure for himself the means of salvation), but that the more we receive His grace, the more we should love Him. Now the more we have loved Him, the more glory shall we receive from Him, when we are continually in the presence of the Father. 4. Inasmuch, then, as all natural precepts are common to us and to them (the Jews), they had in them indeed the beginning and origin; but in us they have received growth and completion. For to yield assent to God, and to follow His Word, and to love Him above all, and one's neighbour as one's self (now man is neighbour to man), and to abstain from every evil deed, and all other things of a like nature which are common to both [covenants], do reveal one and the same God. But this is our Lord, the Word of God, who in the first instance certainly drew slaves to God, but afterwards He set those free who were subject to Him, as He does Himself declare to His disciples: I will not now call you servants, for the servant knows not what his lord does; but I have called you friends, for all things which I have heard from My Father I have made known. John 15:15 For in that which He says, I will not now call you servants, He indicates in the most marked manner that it was Himself who did originally appoint for men that bondage with respect to God through the law, and then afterwards conferred upon them freedom. And in that He says, For the servant knows not what his lord does, He points out, by means of His own advent, the ignorance of a people in a servile condition. But when He terms His disciples the friends of God, He plainly declares Himself to be the Word of God, whom Abraham also followed voluntarily and under no compulsion (sine vinculis), because of the noble nature of his faith, and so became the friend of God. James 2:23 But the Word of God did not accept of the friendship of Abraham, as though He stood in need of it, for He was perfect from the beginning (Before Abraham was, He says, I am John 8:58), but that He in His goodness might bestow eternal life upon Abraham himself, inasmuch as the friendship of God imparts immortality to those who embrace it |

Third Sunday of Lent
Lectionary: 30 (Ordinary Form) Reading 1 - Ex 3:1-8a, 13-15 Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian. Leading the flock across the desert, he came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There an angel of the LORD appeared to Moses in fire flaming out of a bush. As he looked on, he was surprised to see that the bush, though on fire, was not consumed. So Moses decided, “I must go over to look at this remarkable sight, and see why the bush is not burned.” When the LORD saw him coming over to look at it more closely, God called out to him from the bush, “Moses! Moses!” He answered, “Here I am.” God said, “Come no nearer! Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground. I am the God of your fathers,” he continued, “the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God. But the LORD said, “I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt and have heard their cry of complaint against their slave drivers, so I know well what they are suffering. Therefore I have come down to rescue them from the hands of the Egyptians and lead them out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey.” Moses said to God, “But when I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ if they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what am I to tell them?” God replied, “I am who am.” Then he added, “This is what you shall tell the Israelites: I AM sent me to you.” God spoke further to Moses, “Thus shall you say to the Israelites: The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. “This is my name forever; thus am I to be remembered through all generations.” Responsorial Psalm - Ps 103: 1-2, 3-4, 6-7, 8, 11 R. (8a) The Lord is kind and merciful. Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all my being, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. R. The Lord is kind and merciful. He pardons all your iniquities, heals all your ills, He redeems your life from destruction, crowns you with kindness and compassion. R. The Lord is kind and merciful. The LORD secures justice and the rights of all the oppressed. He has made known his ways to Moses, and his deeds to the children of Israel. R. The Lord is kind and merciful. Merciful and gracious is the LORD, slow to anger and abounding in kindness. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is his kindness toward those who fear him. R. The Lord is kind and merciful. Reading 2 - 1 Cor 10:1-6, 10-12 I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea, and all of them were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. All ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink, for they drank from a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was the Christ. Yet God was not pleased with most of them, for they were struck down in the desert. These things happened as examples for us, so that we might not desire evil things, as they did. Do not grumble as some of them did, and suffered death by the destroyer. These things happened to them as an example, and they have been written down as a warning to us, upon whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore, whoever thinks he is standing secure should take care not to fall. Verse Before the Gospel - Mt 4:17 Repent, says the Lord; the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Gospel - Lk 13:1-9 Some people told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices. Jesus said to them in reply, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did! Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem? By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!” And he told them this parable: “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none, he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. So cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’ He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.’” |

In the beginning of Christianity those who did not believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, such as the Gnostics were known as heretics. The sacraments defined who was Christian. Christ means anointed, Christians were anointed and sealed in Baptism.
The Foundation of Christianity is the Eucharist, which the martyrs professed their belief in as they went to their deaths. You cannot contemplate the true nature of Christianity that Satan has been successful at keeping many from, unless you believe Gods words, "This IS my body". This is the foundation of Rock. ![]() In the beginning was the word, the word was with God, the word is God. The word became flesh through a virgin, the word then glorified that flesh and became His church perpetuated through time by the sacraments. The church militant on earth, the church in purgatory, and the church triumphant. Hebrews 10:19-22 Having therefore, brethren, a confidence in the entering into the holies by the blood of Christ; A new and living way which he hath dedicated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, And a high priest over the house of God: Let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with clean water. 1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew; for if they had known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory. 1Timothy 3:15 The church is Emanuel, the church is the Pillar and foundation of truth. But if I tarry long, that thou mayst know how thou ought-est to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. The church is Emanuel the spiritual manifestation of Christ because the church is the bride of Christ His glorified flesh. Hosea 2:19-23 And I will espouse thee to me for ever: and I will espouse thee to me in justice, and judgment, and in mercy, and in commiserations. And I will espouse thee to me in faith: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord. And it shall come to pass in that day: I will hear, saith the Lord, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth. And the earth shall hear the core, and the wine, and the oil, and these shall hear Jezrahel. And I will sow her unto me in the earth, and I will have mercy on her that was without mercy. And I will say to that which was not my people: Thou art my people: and they shall say: Thou art my God. John 3:29 He that hath the bride, is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth with joy because of the bridegroom's voice. This my joy therefore is fulfilled. Revelation 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Ephesians 5:25-31 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it: That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any; such thing; but that it should be holy, and without blemish. So also ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife, loveth himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, as also Christ doth the church: Because we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh. This is a great sacrament; but I speak in Christ and in the church. The church is the supreme sacrament. A physical sign that gives spiritual grace. Luke 11:20 But if I by the finger of God cast out devils; doubtless the kingdom of God is come upon you.21When a strong man armed keepeth his court, those things are in peace which he possesseth. 22But if a stronger than he come upon him, and overcome him; he will take away all his armour wherein he trusted, and will distribute his spoils. 23He that is not with me, is against me; and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth. The Kingdom of God is the rule of heaven come to earth. Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law: In the fullness of time prophecy is fulfilled and the Kingdom of David/ heaven is re established. Isaiah 2:3 And many people shall go, and say: Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob, and he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall come forth from Sion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Hebrews 12:22-24 But you are come to mount Sion, and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the company of many thousands of angels, And to the church of the firstborn, who are written in the heavens, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the just made perfect, and to Jesus the mediator of the new testament, and to the sprinkling of blood which speaketh better than that of Abel. The Catholic church is Israel because Christ is the true Israel and the flesh of Christ baptized into Christ Jesus is His church, the chosen people. Galatians 3:26-29 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Acts 15:13-18 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. and to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, after this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. 1 Peter 2:8-10 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of scandal, to them who stumble at the word, neither do believe, where unto also they are set. 9But you are a chosen generation, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a purchased people: that you may declare his virtues, who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: Who in time past were not a people: but are now the people of God. Who had not obtained mercy; but now have obtained mercy. The church is the flesh of Christ the veil, the bride, that through our high priest Melchizedek as the Royal Priesthood offers the memorial covenant of the cross for the sins of the world until the end of time. Hebrews 10:20-22 Having therefore, brethren, a confidence in the entering into the holies by the blood of Christ; A new and living way which he hath dedicated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, And a high priest over the house of God: Let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with clean water. The church is the Pillar and foundation of truth because the church is the manifestation of the Holy Spirit on earth. There is the fullness of truth found only in God’s church and outside of the truth are those who maketh a lie. The concept of Protestantism is illogical at its foundation. There is one church established by God all others are established by man. All others that interpret scripture become a traditional interpretation of man. God established a supernatural sacramental authority on earth. The prophets told us of the coming of Christ and His church which is the Mountain of the Lord the New Jerusalem through which we learn the ways of God. Man has no ability to understand God on his own. It was by divine providence that Peter went to Rome and established through the Holy Spirit the rule of heaven come to earth. Matthew 18:18 Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven. Ephesians 3:9-10 And to enlighten all men, that they may see what is the dispensation of the mystery which hath been hidden from eternity in God, who created all things: That the manifold wisdom of God may be made known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church, Matthew 18:17 And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. God’s ways are not our ways. Simply reading scripture does not establish truth. It established an image tainted by ego and concupiscence which we have all fallen into. Lack of submission creates lack of holiness , without holiness “ no man will see God”. You either establish your own image of God according to an emotional response of how you feel or you find truth through dying to self in humility and submit through obedience to the faith in the bride of Christ. God knows what our souls require for holiness much better than we do and it is humility and submission to our prelates that is the greatest defense against Satan and honor given to God by giving honor to His princes in His kingdom. On this submission the gift of humility is wisdom. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. True wisdom is the ultimate defense against Satan. Hebrews 13:17 Obey your prelates, and be subject to them. For they watch as being to render an account of your souls; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief. For this is not expedient for you. The concept of the Reformation was founded on arrogance and denial of charity. Charity fulfilled the law, the first schism and everyone after is a violation of the law of the unity of charity. You cannot challenge the Catholic church in scripture interpretation because it was the Catholic church as the flesh of Christ that created those scriptures, interprets those scriptures through the Holy Spirit and establishes the obedience to the faith in the proper understanding of scripture and the limitations God placed in scripture. The church was dedicated to One Doctrine One Breaking of the bread One Lord One Baptism 350 years before it put together the Bible. The Catholic church put the Bible together for the purpose of having an authoritative Canon read at every Holy Mass around the world. A Holy Mass put in place by God. “Do this in remembrance of me” ... “For as often as you shall drink this cup and eat this bread you shall show the death of the Lord until He come again” ... “The bread of the presence must always be placed before me, it shall be a perpetual offering” ... Saying where is that in scripture when you began to understand what the church is, becomes illogical. The word became flesh and the flesh was glorified and became the bride. If you don’t believe in the bride, the flesh of Christ then you simply create your own idol, by creating an image of God according to an emotional response of how you want Him to be. Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of the world. John 17:21 That they all may be one, as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. The Testament that Christ came in the flesh is His bride for 2000 years dedicated to One Doctrine One Breaking of the bread One Lord One Faith One Baptism in which the Holy Spirit for all times guides in One truth. Taken from, Luke Haskell, with great thanks ... Amen!!! |

When God calls, always answer Him!
Lyrics I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear My light to them? Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night. I will go, Lord. If You lead me. I will hold, Your people in my heart. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne My people's pain. I have wept for love of them, They run away. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak My word to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard You Calling in the night. I will go, Lord. If You lead me. I will hold Your people in my heart. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame, I will set a feast for them, My hand will save. Finest bread I will provide, Till their hearts be satisfied. I will give My life to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night I will go, Lord. If You lead me. I will hold, Your people in my heart. I will hold Your people in my heart. God Bless! |

QUOTE(yeeck @ Mar 6 2016, 12:31 AM) Well, I did hear the usual platitudes about the Church not being the building, but the people and all that bunk so there ya go!!! QUOTE Psalm 118:5-10New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE) Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place. With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me? The Lord is on my side to help me; I shall look in triumph on those who hate me. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in mortals. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes. All nations surrounded me; in the name of the Lord I cut them off! QUOTE Psalm 146:1-5New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE) I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, |

Augustine Exposition on the Psalms (136)
Baptism “Who brought out Israel from the midst of them”. He brought out also His saints and faithful ones from the midst of the wicked. “With a mighty Hand and stretched-out Arm”. What more powerful, what more out-stretched, than that of which is said “To whom is the Arm of the Lord revealed?” (Isaiah 53:1) “Who divided the Red Sea in two parts”. He divided also in such wise, that the same baptism should be to some unto life, to others unto death. “And brought out Israel through the midst of it”. So too He brings out His renewed people through the laver of regeneration. “And overthrew Pharaoh and his power in the Red Sea”. He quickly destroys both the sin of His people and the guilt thereof by baptism. (Psalm 135:13) “Not by the works of justice, which we have done, but according to his mercy, he saved us, by the laver of regeneration, and renovation of the Holy Ghost; Whom he hath poured forth upon us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Savior: That, being justified by his grace, we may be heirs, according to hope of life everlasting. It is a faithful saying: and these things I will have thee affirm constantly: that they, who believe in God, may be careful to excel in good works.” (Titus 3:5) "Husbands, love your wives, as Christ also loved the church, and delivered himself up for it: That he might sanctify it, cleansing it by the laver of water in the word of life: " (Ephesians 5:25) And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:Thou shalt make also a brazen laver with its foot, to wash in: and thou shalt set it between the tabernacle of the testimony and the altar. And water being put into it, Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and feet in it: When they are going into the tabernacle of the testimony, and when they are to come to the altar, to offer on it incense to the Lord, Lest perhaps they die. (Exodus 30:17) Having therefore, brethren, a confidence in the entering into the holies by the blood of Christ; A new and living way which he hath dedicated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, And a high priest over the house of God: Let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with clean water. (Hebrews 10:19) Amen, amen I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit. (John 3:5) We do not enter the Kingdom of David on earth through our own works but through the laver of regeneration, Grace given freely that destroys original sin and active sin up to the point of baptism. After we have been saved from this world by being brought into the mystical body, the veil in front of the laver, which is the flesh of Christ, His bride, His church where truth resides, we run the race to win denying sin and living in charity which cannot deny truth. |
