QUOTE(wongmunkeong @ Mar 11 2015, 11:27 PM) Perhaps to ease the worry/fear of "distracted by too much/little equities in the portfolio due to age and fear factor or the urge to change when got BAD noises.": 1. Know how much investment portfolio U need to retire on 2. Add required costs for kids' Uni 3. Tada.. total required and timeline Then invest via FSM, PM, whatever & track based on (3.). If over-achieve, woohoo.. if under-achieve any year, tweak Try playing with the Google Sheet link on my "signature" - hope it helps b'cos I think the risk appetite for 1 and 2 is different due to longer time horizon and also the 2 has PTPTN or scholarship to fall back on ha-ha. |

QUOTE(wongmunkeong @ Mar 11 2015, 11:39 PM) Since one is semi-blind (or total in this case), i'll spell it out: You replied to me?When the WHYs are shared, with asset allocation / de-allocation & shifting the resource$ out, with timeline, doesn't this help in investing via FSM or any other platforms for that matter? some folks need BIG HUGE NEON SIGNS "to see" relevance.. anyhow, i was responding to YKLooi, thus if U have an issue with that - please take it up with the relevant party. another "genius" poking wrong person for wrong item. No, you ramble too much. I have no interested in your rambling shit. Learn to present your points in meaningful form. If you are responding to someone else, state that from the beginning rather than provide a whole bunch of waffle. |

Yeah - have SSPN done thus, PTPTN on standby but scholarship.. dunno lar BTW, SSPN - just got confirmation from LHDN, in person, that interest is counted as part of tax relief, thus U don't need to hentam $6K cash in every year to get $6K tax relief. BTW, U count SSPN as "fixed income" part of your asset allocation for your 2 separate portfolios? ie. in asset allocation sense |

QUOTE(wongmunkeong @ Mar 11 2015, 11:50 PM) Well, i think separated asset allocation works too but i'm just too lazy tracking, executing, adjusting.. 3 portfolios.. gila my 2 sons different 3 yrs ONLY...so I think 1 portfolio for them is enough.Yeah - have SSPN done thus, PTPTN on standby but scholarship.. dunno lar BTW, SSPN - just got confirmation from LHDN, in person, that interest is counted as part of tax relief, thus U don't need to hentam $6K cash in every year to get $6K tax relief. BTW, U count SSPN as "fixed income" part of your asset allocation for your 2 separate portfolios? ie. in asset allocation sense I hantam 6k to try to built more $$ in there.....anyway I think got just a few more years before gomen stopped the tax relief (2017? I think the gomen already anticipated this reduction of contribution thus set a stop year) no I left the SSPN out of the calculation for the portfolio....but if I did managed to set up another portfolio just for my kids...I may add the sspn as FI in their portfolio This post has been edited by yklooi: Mar 12 2015, 12:15 AM |

I think) no I left the SSPN out of the calculation for the portfolio....but if I did managed to set up another portfolio just for my kids...I may add the sspn as FI for their portfolio i simulated via Excel for SSPN VS equity fund bought at 2% SC & 1.85%mgt fees What i found based on my assUmptions 1. if not for the income tax relief, no point getting in like 4 or 5 years BEFORE PTPTN needed coz the returns are similar to "good FD". 2. And if time horizon is longer (10 years+), the impact or oomph for each tax relief becomes less as the base-returns is FD-like (3%+/- to 4%+/-). --- ie. in a nutshell: IF 10+ years, better to put all $6K in Equity funds (if ignoring asset allocation) giving 7%-8%pa CAGR VS put $6K in SSPN compounding 3-4%pa CAGR + $1560 (26% tax relief-ED) into Equity funds giving 7%-8%pa CAGR Shorter term - well worth it due to "oomph" of the 26% -- Note though - as GST gets running, personal tax is being lowered. Thus, as it gets lower.. the "worthwhile" factor may be lost - it depends. Just a thought This post has been edited by wongmunkeong: Mar 12 2015, 12:19 AM |

However, even then, similar conclusions heheh - if shorter term worth it for sure, longer term is iffy. |

US stocks continue the downward spiral but at least Europe has recovered a little. But most of Asia is still down. Not sure how long it will last but I think its gonna drop further as we get closer to the Fed's announcement on the interest rate hike in 3 months. Not gonna be good for most funds I guess.
