FSM Idea Of The Week: Unit Split and High Fund Price Misconceptions [24 October 2014]
QUOTE
Investors should not judge if a unit trust is cheap or expensive based on its unit trust price or NAV. Instead, they should focus on the valuations (PE ratios) of the underlying equity markets that the unit trust invests in.

3. Common misconceptions about unit trust dividends/distributions:

(i) After dividend distribution, NAV price will go down, the fund will become cheaper.
(ii) A fund that declares dividends is better than a fund that does not, dividends are my profit, they make me richer.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

(iii) Topping up my holdings after dividend distribution pulls down my cost per unit, lower cost = higher profit.

(iv) Distribution = Income
QUOTE(jerrymax @ Mar 25 2013, 10:51 PM)
Ok so after dividend distribution, you get some additional units and NAV drops. Then after few weeks if fund perform well then NAV increases to the point where it is back to the NAV before distribution. Doesnt it mean you gain some income from distribution?

Then what's the point of dividend distribution since units and NAV price has negative correlation?

The price of KGF fund just dropped alot....should I enter now?
what caused it's dropped?
did it dropped because of income distribution or because the market(s) in which the fund invested in had corrected/crashed thus causing underlying stocks invested by the fund undervalued?
Based on "PAST" performance of KGF......I think anytime is ALSO a GOOD time to invest........buy when market dips (not NAV dipped due to income distribution) is always better.

".....investors should never solely judge if a fund is cheap or expensive based on its fund price. Instead, investors may find it more helpful if they are aware of the valuation (or estimated price-earning ratios) of the underlying equity market which the fund invests in. It is also useful to observe how a fund has performed over a period of time rather than just for short bouts of time. "

How do I know which Unit Trust to buy?

Before you jump in, there are several things which you need to find out about yourself. Your risk tolerance, investment goals, time horizon and so on. Go to FSM Getting Started section to find out more. After doing that, you should find the fund whose investment objectives match your own. Make use of FSM Fund Selector and read our fact sheets to compare and contrast the unit trusts available. You may also read FSM Funds' recommendations. Soon you will find one which you are comfortable with. Start with that first. As you gain more confidence and understanding of unit trusts, you may then invests more.

What is risk in investing?
The bottom line is that risk can mean different things – volatility, the risk of capital loss, the risk of not having enough income from your investment and the risk of not having enough in retirement. Each of these risks can be of greater or lesser importance depending on your stage in life, how much capital you have and your tolerance for risk. What’s more risk is perverse. The risk of capital loss is often highest when you think it is low (ie after good times) and lowest when you think it is high (ie after a bad patch).

hmm.gif from my own perspective ONLY....
hmm.gif what's the reason for bolehland stocks n UT going up?
without the resources to have latest financial economic reports, like FDI, Foreign institutional fund flows etc, etc...
(even if those data are provided, I does not know how to interpret them....even if I know how to interpret them, I really cannot tell why the market go against it at times...guess mkt is just too unreliable or too unpredictable)
can only GUESS....
1) Oil prices stabilized and had nudge abit up
2) announced Malaysia development projects are on going...
3) Monthly TH, EPF, KWAP, financial institutions monies collected had to go somewhere (30 out of 900+, can change the index and the perception of many......)

Else use the (as at Mid to End January 2015) data & monthly reports provide by the FHs....

China cuts rates again
•28 Feb 2015 at 18:09

BEIJING — China on Saturday cut interest rates for the second time in three months, adding to signs that Chinese leaders are worried that the economic slowdown is deepening too sharply.

The People's Bank of China announced a rate reduction on one-year loans by commercial banks by 25 basis points to 5.35%. The interest rate paid on a one-year deposit was lowered by 25 basis points to 2.50%.

Rates were last cut on Nov 22. The new rates will take effect on Sunday.

http://juristech.net/juristech/impact-mala...ring-singapore/

my say is...read from the web....many countries had experienced slight domestic downward consumption pressure for the first few months.....then back to normal....
but since we are in UT (more diversified in sectors) and not so much of local targeted stock picking....I guess the local FMs with all their "xpertise" "SHOULD" know where to move "MY" monies...
