Just a final thought on the Recon Mk 2.
I've opened it up, lube up all the moving parts, drop in OMW 5kg and catch spring. I'll quickly review the cosmetic parts and attachments. The Recon Mk2 comes with a detachable stock that is even shorter than Retaliator's so it's kinda useless but it does look cool. A very cool front barrel attachment that I felt is exclusively designed just for Recon Mk2, It doesn't look good on others blaster and the lack of the locking nub makes it very wobbly and unstable. Also, the Recon Mk2 on it's own, looks like a block from Tetris, it's so blocky lol. The blaster itself has 2 tact-rail, on the priming slide and on the right side of the blaster. Next, on to the performance. On stock it's a joke, mainly because it's grey trigger. But as soon as the spring is upgraded, it is spectacularly awesome because of the improvement it has, smooth priming action even with the 5KG OMW spring, I didn't even felt that a pump grip/bolt-action attachment is necessary. It is just so smooth and feels good to prime the Recon Mk2 even without lubing up the internal. The performance after the spring upgrade is great, but no comparison as I don't have a chrony to measure, nor the place to do a range test. Accuracy, it is as good as the Retaliator, if not better. it is mostly dart dependent anyway. I have yet to feel the cons of the V shaped breech (also found on the Slingfire, apparently), but I feel the V shaped tapered breech makes priming extremely smooth and more "dart-friendly". Internal parts are exactly the same as the Retaliator, few differences are the solid white plunger tube that has a removable cap, trigger and a button to un-jam the priming slide and a thinner trigger. I also felt that the shell of Recon Mk2 is sturdier and made better than Retaliator. Cons, for some stupid reason, probably to save cost, Hasbro has decided to replace the metal pin on the jam door and boltsled/breech with a plastic pin, that's really dumb. The Retaliator's pin size is exactly the same so if you have an extra Retaliator lying around, or if you upgrade to OMW stage 2 kits, then this isn't an issue. But seriously, plastic pin on the bolt-sled and breech? That's super dumb. Well, good time to stress test the pin too I guess, now that my Recon Mk2 is on 5kg OMW with everything else stock. My overall opinion on this blaster is pretty high, I'd give it a 8/10. It works better than Retaliator and it operates extremely smooth. Definitely a great blaster to replace the Retaliator (on stock). Modding options are still vast for the Retaliator so no competition there, period. Attached thumbnail(s) |

My only Retaliator's shell is ruined lol.
The part where it houses the trigger catch gave way, I heard it happens to the Retaliator XD white shell more often than the Non-XD blue cause it's more brittle, well I can't comment on that as I don't own a blue Retaliator. I've fix it with some epoxy putty, it's up and running again. I suspect it has to do with the OMW's metal trigger catch. I was on OMW Stage 1 and 2 kit. Anyway, with the shell fixed, I've decided to give Worker's kit a try, I've purchased the spring upgrade and the boltsled+plunger head kit. Interested to see how it perform compares to OMW. I'm still waiting for the FPS chrno machine to arrive so I will be doing a comparison as soon as it arrives. I've also decided to try out the F10555 pump grip kit, as it does look sleeker, though the slider is made of molded plasic, presumably ABS, it doesn't give the level of solidness of Worker's pump girp, which is made of metal. But if weight is concerned, the F10555 kit is considerably more lighter, honestly speaking, the worker's kit is quite heavy and you will feel it once you run on the field for an hour or 2 lol, so the lighter weight is appreciated. Also some Mags goodies, the latest Worker 12 round Magpul PMAG style magazines with ranger plate. These are sexy as hell, compared to F10555's 15 rounds PMAG, these are of higher quality, better finishing and the spring within works very smoothly. In terms of style point, definitely a 100%. The F10555 15 rounds PMAG are too big and out of proportion. With everything installed, this is now my latest Retaliator setup. I'll be using this as primary for this coming Saturday Duo match competition. Gotta love those tact-rail, tacticool as f**k. After test firing some 200 rounds elite darts, I have got to say this, Holy crap do they perform. Worker's internal upgrade kit is actually better than OMW. I have swap out all the OMW parts except for the metal trigger. Now the internals parts are Workers boltsled, workers plunger head, 7kg spring, stock breech with AR. Yep, with AR. lol And it really surprises me how it performs so much better than OMW's kit. It isn't like the OMW 7kg is any weaker, it is strong, but TOO strong, it sents all the darts spiraling, but the Worker's 7kg spring, is just right, the dart fly straight and hella fast too, I suspect the Worker 7kg is weaker than OMW 7kg, but hits right at the sweet spot for stock length dart user. And it is sooo soo sooo much cheaper than OMW. I will definitely recommend Worker's kit more than OMW, and not to mention Worker's kit come with dampening silicons to protect your internals like plunger tube and the plunger head, very very nice packaging IMO. Now I just need to chrono it to confirm the result. This post has been edited by awyongcarl: Feb 18 2016, 11:36 PM |

Some extra stuff I did. Also recommended trigger mod for the Retaliator.
I've sanded off the rough and ugly looking cast seams of the OMW metal trigger, feels like this how it should be like when they ship it off, instead we get some shitty looking metal casted trigger lol. Also sanded smooth the part where it come into contact with the catch, this isn't just cosmetic, as is the ugly and rough cast seams, now it's smooth, the gritty trigger feel as if there are sand stuck in the trigger mech is all gone, smooth and quick. Now, for all the Retaliator users, I'm pretty sure you notice that the trigger feel of Retaliator is weird, like there is zero resistance when you pull the trigger initially for for like 90% of the trigger travel, then only the catch will be released. Maybe it's just me, but I've always been bothered by this weird trigger mech and after so many games I still find it bothering me. So I did a quick mod. Just stick a piece of plastic or whatever you want here. Notice the red circle part. And comparing to a stock setup Notice the shorter trigger exposed at the default position now. The result is phenomenal, you won't believe how much smoother the Retaliator operates by just doing this simple trigger mod. I believe people call these "Hair trigger" lol. You will have to remove the locks first though. Attached thumbnail(s) |
