Well according to the final episode igniting sakuralite is capable of blowing a whole state. Thats even more powerful than a nuke. Woundnt it sounds dangerous that it so widely available, Its like providing dynamite into everyone life.

I hate the fact that we waited for almost half a year just for another cliffhanger. If you were gonna continue it at the season 2 my as well just join 24-25 into season 2.

Iirc it is a valuable energy source ( was mentioned in one of the episodes ) , kinda like today's radioactive minerals. Rare, powerful and expensive. Sakuradite is not abundant in area 11. Its a rare resource, but the area around Fuji mountain is the biggest producer of it, which is one of the reasons why Britania took over Japan. The pink colored cube spinning inside knightmare frames is sakuradite.

Nina got her sakuradite from the count. There's one episode where she went to collect her 'gift' (also the episode she met Euphie again). The count, being the mad scientist that he is, gave it to Nina after hearing her theory, which is why he knew that Nina's bomb had the capability to blow up Tokyo.
