it depends on what type u looking for.
Air filter cover is not expensive as there's alot still selling now.
some even modified K&N (or memang got K&N) to fit into the engine.
*
i got a K&N filter to match with my 1.6 engine. the problem with these filter is the oil fume from your oil filler will need a new connection. usually, with the original air filter, the housing would have a connection to the oil fumes. the solution i adopted is oil catch tank. the fume from the oil catch tank will need to be diverted back to the carb. the remainder fluid (oil) can be drained when its full. otherwise, u can connect a new rubber hose away from your engine bay.

That's me! heh. Pup and I have the most LISTED but we are not the highest smile.gif It LOOKS the way it does because its our "job" to stay on top of postings (hope you understand). Ours together are only 3,904 of 18,285 posts

If there is something you do not like about the forum, please do let me know what that is. I have options to move things around or rename etc etc. That said, LY forum is cool too and has a variety of topics so please do continue to enjoy your stay here.

For air filtration, I like the aluminum filter sets... not the chrome ones. If you plan to use an open element filter (like K&N) AND have a slotted rear deck, you WILL get rain in the filter unless you have a rain guard thing installed. Or you could just avoid the rain! tongue.gif

My setup would LOVE to have a breather added but for now the hose just dumps under the car. mad.gif

that works too. by the way, anyone who is looking for air cond compressor do let me know. i am selling it cheap. had just changed to a new recond compressor. a mistake. the problem with my air cond is my pulley. i used to have 4 inch pulley, now its 2.5in. big improvement with engine torque, but bad for the air cond. initially i thought its the compressor, but now it is confirmed - my pulley size is the problem. so if anyone looking for a cheap compressor, i am willing to let go at RM120. please pm me.

Volkswagen (People Car)

In the 1930s, cars cost more than most people earned in a year. When Hitler became the chancellor of Germany in 1933, he promoted the idea of a car affordable enough for the average working person. The Volkswagen, which means "people's car" in German, was essentially a political promise to win the public's goodwill.

Hitler met with automotive designer Ferdinand Porsche in 1933 and charged Porsche with creating the new car. The chancellor required that the Volkswagen carry two adults and three children, go up to 60 miles per hour, get at least 33 miles per gallon, and cost only 1,000 reichsmarks. Hitler may also have named the car the Beetle.

In 1938, Hitler had the KdF Wagen factory built to produce the cars designed by Porsche. But by the time the factory was complete, Hitler had invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland. The factory was dedicated to building military vehicles, and the people's car fell by the wayside during World War II.

After the war, the factory ended up in the British section of occupied Germany. The British military re-opened the factory, named it Volkswagen, and finally gave control of the company to the German government.

After 1948, Volkswagen introduced new models across Europe. By 1955, over 1 million cars had been built. The VW beetle started selling in the U.S., and in 1972 the people's car overtook the Ford Model T to become the most popular car ever made.

nice one...
a history which many of us have known yet many still doesn't know that this small lil materpiece was having such historical background.

just like many of us know it's aircooled and rear engine yet still alot outside were surprised when we tell them about it.

good to have people keep posting up these history which is one of the factor that could make some other interest in VW.

1937 Volkswagen Beetle (Kafer)

" Chafer " (beetle-like insect in the Scarabaeus family). In Germany, this is the most common nickname for the Beetle Volkswagen sedan and convertible.

1943 Volkswagen KdF-877 Kommandeurwagen (Commander's Car)

"Commander's Car". The VW Type 87. A closed, liaison-type gel delimousin, built at the Volkswagenwerk during World War II. It was created by mating the KdF-Wagen sedan body, the Kelwagen chassis, and the Schwimmwagen part-time (first gear only) four-wheel-drive system. This hybrid wound up looking like a muscular Beetle, and was delivered to the Wehrmacht in two versions: as a solid-roofed sedan, and a "Cabrio-Limousine" with a large sliding cloth sunroof.

it is indeed difficult to find a good mechanic who survives through the ages. but here are some mechanics in Klang/Subang Jaya/Damansara, with their numbers whom you can call:-
Sulaiman - 0129062327
Location: Jalan Banting, close to the turn off from Kesas to Bukit Tinggi (but towards Banting) side,

Dorai Singam - 0126371571
This guy is no longer full time with VW. Be ready to have your car stuck for a long time, as he works on free lance basis, but a damn good mechanic.

Richard - no number available
Location Taman Rasna (at Federal Highway's last toll in Klang), turn off to Bukit Raja Jusco.

The names are not listed are not in particular ranking order. but do check out yourself their workshops.

Allow me to share my experience as a beetle-nut for 15 years!

Judge them by visiting their workshop. Things to look out for:-

1. Price - always get estimation of work before you commit. Never leave your car and assume that you can offload your problem to the mechanics alone. Verify for yourself if failed parts requires changing or not. Do your own research. A normal overhaul service (labor charge only) can cause from RM300 to RM800: this depends on the workshop overhead. The rest are just parts. It works well if you buy your own parts rather than having your mechanic buy them. This is of course for you to control the cost of repair, and for you to pour some love to the restoration job. This can be a stresful process for both you and your mechanic, but you can learn a lot about your car by the time you drive your baby out of the workshop.

2. Equipment and tools - see how equip the workshop is. The more tools the workshop has, means your car will be in good care. It also means that you will get back your car in better shape. Some mechanics dont bother to use the right tool for the right job. Its quite sickening to see this.

3. Number of cars - if you find a lot of cars - it is not necessarily because he is popular, but it actually means that the mechanic is overloaded. Unless you have a lot of time to kill, and dont mind extended project, then avoid going to workshops with a lot of cars pile up. This can be really stressful. Trust me, I have been through this.

4. Location, location, location - important for you to be able to access, and pay visits to the workshop to check on work progress conveniently. Spend some time on the restoration/repair work can give you the opportunity to learn and at the same time get away from your daily life routine. For me, a grease monkey, its quite therapeutic!

5. If you follow the above basic criterias before choosing your workshop and entrust the mechanic with your baby, be sure that you constantly butter your mechanic with teh tarik, kopi or beer. This relationship is critical especially when your car decided to stall in the middle of the day on a busy street! Having said this, be sure you stick to one mechanic, so that all history of repair and faults of your car can be used to troubleshoot problems.

Again, these are my own opinion.
Have fun with your project.
