RPG-7 styled weapon for US army? we'll see..
QUOTE US Army Tests Soviet-Designed Rocket Launcher ![]() U.S. Army infantry platoons may one day be fighting with an Americanized version of the famous, Soviet RPG 7 anti-armor weapon. Army testers recently evaluated Airtronic USA Inc.'s RPG 7 as part of service's annual Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment. "The durability, simplicity, low cost and effectiveness of the RPG 7 has made it the most widely used man-portable anti-armor weapon in the world," according to the AEWE's Systems Book of selected technologies chosen for this year's experiment. But the Airtronic RPG is quite different than the 1960s-era Soviet weapon. Its tube is made from 4140/4150 ordnance grade barrel steel and it features several sections of rail for attaching optics. It weighs about 14 pounds unloaded and without optic. Many soldiers involved with the experiment have faced enemy forces in Iraq and Afghanistan that were armed with RPG weapons, Army officials from the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Ga., said. "There was a great deal of interest because there were a number of guys that had been deployed had seen it from the other perspective," said Harry Lubin, chief of the Experimentation Branch of MCOE's Maneuver Battle Lab. QUOTE(trollboy @ Feb 15 2015, 01:00 PM) anybody know why we chose pt-91m?? other than weight, the t84m seems a lot better with capability to launch atgm and also has active protection, and its only heavier by 5 tons which is not really a lot considering the amount of goodies it has compared to pt91m The polish accept barter trade dealare we gonna get anymore tanks?? Also bear in mind that the t84 tested here in the year 2000 is the baseline version and is different from the t84m which only produced in 2008, no active protection, no advanced panoramic optics, no atgm firing capability yet ![]() This post has been edited by KYPMbangi: Feb 15 2015, 01:40 PM |

QUOTE(ayanami_tard @ Feb 15 2015, 03:19 PM) my thoiught exactly. they both share the same design(both are heavily upgraded T-72), so the boys has little trouble migrating to one another India ady produced their own t90s, the only obstacle is to ask for license production from russianothing wrong with PT-91 but since the poles is withdrawing them from front line service, there's no reason that they gonna continue the production line. now they ar concentrating on production of their rosomak instead problem is, Russia-EU relation isn't good right now |

QUOTE(AxeFire @ Feb 15 2015, 03:50 PM) is there any upgrades that can be done to the PT-91? umm.. no, the difference is too great between both versionif so maybe it can become a MT-92 MT Because its produces (probably by DRB-Hicom) in Malaysia and 92 because its a upgraded 91 modifying the vanilla version would cost more |

I'd say no to making the tanks ourselves, at least not on mbt level yet
But I do wanna see deftech making light tank first, maybe joint venture with the turks to license produce their light tank. Our light tanks (scorpion, stormer) needs replacements |

QUOTE(thpace @ Feb 15 2015, 08:30 PM) Would rather the army save money and get more modern tanks compared to those soviet era design tanks I don't think we gonna stray away far from the T series, as they ady use the base to train and develop doctrine from the pt91mPt91 although heavily upgraded it still in end an soviet era design Well, maybe they could get away from the russian tanks but I still reckon it gonna be under 50-tonnes class |

QUOTE(thpace @ Feb 15 2015, 08:55 PM) the crew requirement is still the same Standard NATO tanks, 55-65 tonnes is normaljust that they need to familiarize driving a heavier and wider vehicle. I also read before that K2 can be mod for wider track due to korean experience during korean war. Plus, the vehicle thermal insulation can be removed since we dont have winter here turkey "Altay" is worse at 60+ton. Dunno what they add until even heavier than the original K2 East asian (k2, type10) tanks is blardy expensive.. So the requirement is 3 men crew, autoloader, 50 tonnes class (maybe max 55) Is there a non-russian tanks that fill all this? |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Feb 15 2015, 11:01 PM) Currently watching Special Forces-Philippine Marine recon on History channel. Go try watch PNP-SAF documentary, really long history involved in several political coup being on the side of the "people", while the military is on marcos side after that resulting in their decades of negligence and underfunding. All SAF operators black beret is earned after a test mission, encounter the enemy and come back alive then you can "graduate"OMG, In the middle of parachute jump test (only using just ONE Huey helicopter no less, bcoz Pinoys totally don't have any flying airplanes), the helicopter was called away due to some kind of clashes with communist guerrillas in another part of country, so jump test is postponed a few days. It's so distressingly ridiculous, made me ROFL and shed a tear in bewilderment at the ridiculousness of it all. Oh well, that is all before the maguindanao massacre happened.. |
