Air Force's Jaguar Fighter Jet Crashes in Haryana; Pilot Ejects Safely



Chandigarh:  A Jaguar fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed close to Shahbad town in Haryana's Kurukshetra district today, with the pilot ejecting safely.

"The fighter aircraft crashed in the fields. According to preliminary information, the pilot ejected from the plane before it fell in the fields. He was reported to have sustained injuries," Kurukshetra's Superintendent of Police, Simardeep Singh said.

An IAF spokesperson said the pilot gave a distress call before ejection.

The pilot is safe, the spokesperson said. The aircraft crashed near Landi village, close to Shahbad town in Kurukshetra, about 65 km from Chandigarh, at 1:15 pm.

The pilot had taken off from Ambala Air base in the afternoon, police said.

Mr Singh said that there were no immediate reports of any casualty on the ground where the plane fell.

He said besides police, the IAF personnel from Ambala have rushed to the spot.

A helicopter from Ambala has taken off to bring the pilot to the city.

Seven Marines and four soldiers were missing early Wednesday following an Army helicopter crash in Florida, officials said.

The servicemen were aboard one of two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters participating in a routine training mission which went down off the coast.

"We have found some human remains," Eglin Air Force Base spokesman Andy Bourland told NBC News. He said he did not have further details on the identities or number.

Earlier, senior U.S. military officials said they feared all 11 service members had died.

Some aircraft debris also has washed ashore, Bourland said. He told NBC News that a search and rescue operation was ongoing — though poor visibility and fog was hampering efforts. It was too soon to say what caused the crash, but there were "weather issues" overnight, Bourland added.

A Coast Guard vessel recovered debris including the downed chopper's tail rotor overnight, officials told NBC News.

A crash at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma resulted in the death of one Marine around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, according to an MCAS Yuma press release.

A civilian aircraft, a T-59 Hawk, crashed on an MCAS Yuma runway, impacting a government vehicle, resulting in the fatality. The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at Yuma Regional Medical Center. The pilot and passenger of the aircraft were examined and released by MCAS Yuma emergency services personnel.
