Ok, have read through all the pages, just would like to re-confirm something:

1) I'm non-bumi, so can only buy ASW and ASM (fixed). Are there separate accounts for these, or 1 account for all? Meaning if I wanna buy ASM, have to open ASM account, wanna buy ASW, have to open ASW account?

2) Just go to any Maybank, RHB or CIMB bank to open the account with photocopy of my IC?

Just to check before going to the bank... thanks a lot... thinking of opening account first and wait for ASM/ASW to be available...

2) you cannot open an account and wait for ASM/ASW to be available, i tried it, you can only open it when the fund is open
Not all CIMB/RHB banks can open accounts ,i tried it too
For Maybank, no idea.

1)ASW and ASM will have seperate accounts. My book have ASW printed on it.

just wanna shared with u some knowledge about saving and investment
1. In the bank as a saving account or even fixed deposit.. in average returns you wil get around 3-4% (depend on the number of month) interest/profit - NO RISK
2. in ASB and enjoy deviden like 7-8% per year (A bonus 2.25% is meant for those whom save more than 10 years) - NO RISKS
3. in Tabung Haji yet get like 4-5% dividen - NO RISKS
4. in Bank Rakyat (15% dividen for the last 7 years) too bad it is not longer available. - NO RISK
5. in EPF (compulsory) and get dividen 4-5% per year - NO RISK
6. to your friends..let him do some business.. RISK? Yeap.
------1. You will lose the money due to no profit, thus
------2. Lost a friend
7. in share market and get profit in short term...but you have to daily monitor the share...RISK or you might to CONSIDER take some moderate risk by saving in unit trust and enjoy like 8-12% profit per year.
btw, doremon which mutual fund you had invested before?

There is another bank I heard give a good dividend -- Bank Persatuan.

P/s: I have asked bank about which is better, ASB or ASW and they told me ASB is better. So, I moved all money from ASW to ASB but ASW can't be closed like ASB. So, if you change your mind and want to put some money in ASW, it's still available.

[quote=vergas,Nov 17 2006, 08:38 AM]If I recall correctly, the limit is RM200k only.

I prefer to take advantage of this limit first, then with RM200k safe, you can use the excess in risky investment like stocks etc. Even if you lose all in stock you might be able to sleep better at night if you still have RM200k secured nicely so you won't have to think of not having to eat for the day...

Last time it was RM200k but now it's RM250k.
You can check with any bank near you.

Today I read the news about ASW2020, there are still lots of units reserved for Bumis. If you are bumis, I strongly suggesting you to go and buy that. Grab the chance!!! This ASW stuffs, I can put full confidence in recommendation man!!!

Sorry for interupting, As i have ASM and ASW only. So far i know only ASM and ASW entitle for non bumi with certain quota. Since when ASB is for non bumi also?? unsure.gif One more thing is ASM is not capital protected where as ASW is capital protected. Correct me if i am wrong.

most bank can only give out maximun of 10k & its in cash mode.

For 10k & above (eg 50k or 100k shocking.gif ) we have to do it at PNB's hq.

or

some designated banks for eg RHB Tun razak.

However at PNB, the cheque can only be under the principals name.

At special designated banks eg RHB Tun Razak , we can put 3rd partys name.. rolleyes.gif

Been there done that... cool.gif

sino kadazan is a bumiputra regardless Muslim or Not.

so.. eligible for ASB.

Wondering how the ASB works here, limit rm250k per-person, if it max out, how then they count the interest?
interest x 250k = new amount(z)-(>250k)

Then next year?
new amount(z) x interest or
250k x interest ?

BUT if you take ASB loan, let say if you take RM200K,they will calculate your dividen based on the RM200K..so you will get a lot man....yes,for those fresh loan,at first you will feels suffer a bit,but after 1 year of paying, you can already relax a bit,i mean you can use the dividen that you get to pay your monthly installments...after that, you can still earn a lot..... rclxms.gif

Very interesting forum....

I dont understand why you said taking ASB loan is worth? ASB loan interest rate is based on BLR right? So if let say current BLR is 6.75% and ASB dividen average per year is 8.5%..does it means you only get 1.75% for profit (8.5%-6.75%)? And if true than the ASB loan borrower do not maximize their investment profit and to make it worst..the profit margin is lower than FD! sad.gif

From what I understand, eventhough we invest by saving every month to ASB account..but in the end of the year still we own 100% of the dividen & bonus without sharing with bankers. ASB dividen is calculated by monthly basis and from my study..I discovered that in the long run let say 10 years, those who save and never take a loan will always outperform to those who takes ASB loan within same period.

Most of the investment gurus like warren buffett, robert kiyosaki, peter lynch & etc advise us never borrow money to invest. How come we make money but at the same times need to pay interests to bankers?

Correct me if I'm wrong coz I just beginner in investment world and still learning.
Cheers!

For your information ASB is for Bumi only. Whereas for non bumi we don have to chance to put even not to say borrowing though sweat.gif ASB return average at 9% dividend and 2% bonus. I beliv the ASB loan is not more than 6%.... So actually every year you use the dividend to pay the loan you still earn 5% at least. So far i think it is the best Unit trust with very constant returns.

It is different my frend. Lets say you borrowed 200k ASB Loan. You loan is 20 years loan with interest rate of 5% that means you got to pay around 1400 per annum. Let assume the dividend is 10%

Through borrowing,

1st year dividend = 20k You pay 1400 interest you still get 18k....

Lets say you do saving by 1400 per annum tats mean you only get RM 140 PER ANNUM DIVIDEND.....

Thats is the power of compound interest.......

Don always follow the words by gurus. Always analyse yourself. For you to do investment, playing with the interest rate is very important ....

Ops sorry make a mistake here should be RM 16800 PER year.
So it should be 20 k - 17k = 3k which means you earn about 3 k every year. And the 3k compounding again so basically means you earn more and more everyyear.

Hi.

My Aunt suggested I buy ASB for bumiputras as she feels it is the best form of investment for bumiputra (high yield/low risk)...

However, I am still uncertain. Every investment has its risks right? What risks do I face if I buy ASB and max it out? O_o For bank FDs I know it is that banks only insure 60K of amount... Stocks can plummet and properties can remain stagnant or suck your money, etc... What is ASB risk?

Seems to good to be true to simply dump money there and get 'guaranteed' high returns(8-10% is relatively high to me as it is classified low risk...)...

Feedback plz? smile.gif
