Can I suggest maybe can add this information onto the 1st thread, some FAQ for Cat Lover, to help newbie..

Cat Food & Cat Litter : Premium Brand
                                  Budget Brand
                                  Low Cost Brand

*
for cat food, i notice that, some local brand or imported brand, use the word " premium "

to fool consumers who doesnt bother to learn about cat food ingredient.

they simply "taruh" what ever label that sounds good on the packaging.

for example - POWERCAT by adabi, kibble..

Ikan Tuna segar! Huge Label on the front, also use the word premium.

at the back, ingredient - fish meal... and tuna flavour..

where the heck is TUNA?? got put in any tuna? i don't think so.

if they use fish by-product meal, they will just put fish meal.

so pet food is not so easily categorized into premium budget and low cost.

it all depends on the honesty of the manufacturer, the ingredient used, packaging and price...

yeah. my family always pick up cats before and bela. so i dont like those orang atas cats hahah. strays and those from shelters are for me! hahah.

i think they have too many animals there kot. so they dont take in strays anymore. hope more people can adopt. a lot of gentle cats there. many are between 1-3yo. not many kittens. many dogs too, but big dogs i think will be hard for people to adopt.

if those interested. it was RM150 for normal cat breeds. (incl neuter, deworming, and 3 vaccinations). bring a cat carrier. i bought one on site at RM70, which is relatively good price (Nilufar same size was RM90). seems they are feeding royal canin food, so i bought that at nilufar, a bit pricy, but i guess its a good brand. better to keep him on same diet for now. we will see later how.

for more atas breeds (persian, bengal, etc.) i think was RM250. dunno why... maybe just a way to extra donation? anyways. RM5 to go in to take a look and play with the animals. they alls o friendly.

maybe RC donates to spca.. biggrin.gif

RC is not cheap..

I have been browsing pet shops around klang valley for the past few months, since i have adopted a kitty,

and prices of food does vary alot from shop to shop...

and I also found out when talking to pet food distributor @ the recent expo kucing..

many food are actually not that expensive, but the distributors are controlling the prices...

and they dont want shops to simply mark down their products.. makes it look cheap..

so if any of you guys found out a shop that sells a brand that is much lower.. please dont go tell other shops, and don't tell the distributor.. biggrin.gif

the shop are actually giving us consumer a generous discount.

yeah. i think they do, because they also give free RC bowl and 2 pack of food and starter pack. im trying to claim 1 free bag of food. even today went to another pet store seems different price. if we continue her on RC, then i think ill start looking online on lazada for discount or voucher. then maybe can get for 20% cheaper. this type of thing, buy a lot also not really worried hahah.
*
which RC are you planning to feed?

when i go pet shop i ask just to see how low can i find the price..

i find that most cat food, they tend to put alot fat , ie fat content is on the high side, like over 15%,

maybe it is purposely done, cos most cats are indoors and dont get exercise alot, so when the cat gets fat,

the owner will wana look for low fat food, and the low fat food is always priced much more expensive than high fat food..

n tht seems to be @&^%(& ridiculous , cant they reduce the fat in the first place?

hahahah. im currently feeding the kitten one (2nd stage) or whatever its called. after this bag finish (and hopefully second free bag from RC) then will see what food to move on to. i guess for kitten, they need more fat right? since they are much more active. but i guess need to match personality and food type.

you feed your cat other food? like cooked chicken or fish?
*
I'm referring to adult cat food, not kitten food.

kitten food is high fat yes, but i think when the kitty is over 6mths if still continue on kitten food, and it gets fat, after neuter, the fat will tend to stay on..

well i would like to feed my cat home cooked food, as it is the best way, but i think kibble is cheaper in the long run and more time saving..

currently feeding the kitty brit adult salmon.. after surveying to check which food is most berbaloi .. biggrin.gif

when buy 8kg, the brit price is 13.75RM per KG which is not very bad, and looking at the ingredient is not that bad as well. ..

later i will post, what i think about cat food price and the ingredient.. biggrin.gif

if you have not smelled cat pee and poo and smell of litter with poo n pee, i do

recommend you visit a friend with cat, or go to a boarding cat place to experience it first

hand. Only if u have never had any furry pets before, like hamster, rabbit, etc, that

have smelly pee and poo. Fish birds, tht still ok, now cat... not everyone can tahan.. so... biggrin.gif

or better still visit spca, tell them you wana try clean a cat litter tray... cos you r thinking of adopting,

but havent experience jaga cat before.. biggrin.gif

Hi guys. My lovely cat is diagnosed with gingivitis and I have been taking her to vet frequently. Today took her to vet again because she doesn't eat properly these days and my family is really worry about her 😭 The vet just injected her with steroid and gave some antibiotics but lately the injections + meds  seems like it's not really working like before because she seems to be in pain even after injection and on meds. For now i just started giving her multi vitamins + lysine as supplement (am I too late 😭) and bought plaqueoff and aquadent online but those two going to take a month or so to reach since they're from overseas. I'm afraid her condition will worsen if I'm not taking any actions now so I did some research and found out dental scaling might help. Any of you can recommend me  good vets for ultrasonic dental scaling? Preferably Negeri Sembilan area or somewhere close. Also, any of you guys experienced the same with your cats? Thank you so much!
*
hv you read this?
http://m.petmd.com/cat/conditions/mouth/c_...ngivitis?page=1

how severe is the prob? best way is to get it properly cleaned by ultrasonic scaling, then dental care frm you everyday if u can. call up all vets in n9 , if cant find then bring to kl is the only way. those plaque off stuff cant remove existing plaque, u need to use it aft teeth has been properly scaled/clean.

wanna ask, which type of litter is best? normal sand, crystals, wooden pallets or clay litter?
*
depends on ur budget..
u wana flush down toilet?
wana be more environmental frenly?

in summary, if u got $$$ silica is best. cat oso like.
save money but not environ frenly, clay litter, can find cheapest.
flushasble litter like corn, soy type are $$$ more than silica.
pine pellet for me is messy n alot hard work, u can tanam the pine dust..

yeah i have read most articles about it! her gums is really red but the vet said there's no need to remove her teeth yet. If can I want to avoid the worst. I don't want to have her teeth removed so I'm going to try my best to avoid it. Luckily the steroid seems to be working today so she eats more than before but she still cries in pain sometime 😭
Thank you for the infos and helping me out! Appreciate it a lot! Will be calling vets in n9 first then! I thought not cleaning cat's teeth won't be causing any problem, I'm totally a bad owner for not knowing about it 😥
*
alot cat/dog owner oso don realise the importance of dental care, me last time aft many years only realise.. so now i everyday rub the cat teeth using cloth .. some kg cat dun let u do it.. best is to brush it..

money is not exactly a concern. any idea where i can get decent silica one? Another concern is can it use with smartsift? Thanks!
*
i think smart sift can only be used wit clumping clay. u can check online. theres clumping silica, but they add glue, it doesnt clump as hard as clay, so when u sift it breaks...

Yeah I didn’t know too 😭 thank you so much for the tips! I want to bruah her teeth but I’m afraid I’ll accidentally hurt her especially because she already has gingivitis.. tysm!

hi,

pls dont try to brush ur cats teeth with the current condition not solved.

from your description, the vets that you have consulted doesnt really know what is going on with your cat,

and you yourself cant properly check your cats mouth, cos it is in pain.

so the best way is to have your cat sedated then only the vet can check what is going on there.

i advice that you should consult another vet apart from these 2 klinik.

3yo is still young cat, but if u worry, best can be done is to do a blood test before going for any GA.

the swollen gums might be a dental condition, and might be not, it has to be thoroughly examined.

the cat needs to be sedated in order to properly examine the mouth and other parts.

I study this website many years ago, regarding cat dog dental problems, not sure if u have come across it.

it is a very good read. if you have time, read the whole website. biggrin.gif
