India, Canada, NZ, Australia, Russia currencies also dropped a lot too. It is a global currency war to depreciate currency to makes competitive EXPORTS.

Why are we comparing with the weak but not with the strong?

Even for us to compare with Singapore we should feel extremely shameful! Singapore is only as big as Klang Valley with a population of 5 million. No natural resources what so ever. But they are able to be the most competitive country in the world with a per capita income of USD50k.

Do you still need to compare? Why can't our ruler just admit that we have failed?

It is free open market.. Why need to intervene the currency uptrend / downtrend ? Weaker currency makes competitive exports, good tourism business and increase ppls saving in bank, as other than basic necessities needs spending in life, ppls will hold purchasing import items that not important(luxury, or demand based needs) ?

Ideally we all Malaysian don't travel to overseas and don't import anything overseas and we only attract people coming to Malaysia to study and vacation. rclxms.gif

Is this possible?

Honestly, How many household items that you are using is made in Malaysia? Please go and count it now.

Showtime bro, are you able to do a list like above by using RM vs other currency?  This will be very informational.  thumbup.gif

Yeah, very informative with many currencies dropped against strengthening greenback.. Many countries are in currency war to depreciate their currencies, to boost competitive EXPORTS and tourism. Thanks for the great information, that linked it to strengthening greenback with 1st interest rate hike by USA FED soon.

that is where some people dun understand.

it is obvious many, esp our politicians and their supporters can't even understand the roots of the problem.

so, it is denial all the way; it's all due to external, nothing we can do, we are better than abc or xyz, it's ok.

when there is denial and non recognition of the problem, how can there even be an attempt to deal with it?! biggrin.gif

I know little on economy and no idea really how the currency movement.
I noted yes, currency is more on global issue BUT our internal issueS has caused the situation worse.

I did follow ON Nazir whenever his interview was made available and try to get his thought

So he said during a interview that his investors are concern on the (1) political sentiment and (2) independent of our institutions.
Also, when ask about whether Najis shall withdraw from the post of Finance Minister, he choose not to answer that question. But he joked with the reporter that it was a good try/ question.

I hope I able to read his mind then.

that was in jan 2015, 7 months ago.

rate was about 3.60 then. now 4.17... almost 16%.

u can calculate what net gain or loss in rm according to the foreign asset prices up or down since then.

there are always risks; in fact, huge global risks at this time.

a matter of how well u manage them.

bankruptcy is a big word, has different meanings for diff people and nations.

as it is, basically, we are all much poorer with our money and savings.

workers will need to work longer, retirees will get much less purchasing power now.

will the rm improve strengthen significantly and quickly?

i personally doubt it.

Friend, you reference to USD and reference to MYR will be similar lah. Ie. you convert RM to USD, then USD to that particular currency. The result is similar (although not exact to the dot)

Anyway, here it is. Although I feel stupid to table it out doh.gif But I know you are sincere, so I do it for you tongue.gif

MYR/USD -31.8%
MYR/HKD -31.8%
MYR/RMB -26.9%
MYR/GBP -25.1%
MYR/TWD -21.0%
MYR/THB -18.1%
MYR/SGD -17.1%
MYR/JPY -12.3%
MYR/KRW -12.5%
MYR/Eur -12.6%
MYR/IDR -10.7%
MYR/CAD -10.3%
MYR/NZD -4.5%
MYR/AUD -3.6%
MYR/RUB +45.1% (bloomberg no MYR/RUB quote. I use USD as reference point)

We all know that currency war is happening but do you get the point why RM is performing worse than a lot of other currency?

Perhaps you need to be more open minded and think more critically too
