QUOTE(terradrive @ Jan 26 2015, 08:57 PM) I haven't saw any game uses more than 4GB VRAM other than Shadow of Mordor high resolution texture pack. COD Advanced warfare got, in the form of 'supersampling', i guess it is a kind of SSAA. Crysis 3 got, watch dog got this option, not using it now...Also some newer games can't even use MSAA anymore, too demanding already... Have to use SMAA or FXAA now |

QUOTE(marfccy @ Jan 26 2015, 09:22 PM) dont bother, on latest games, turning on anything >2x MSAA will kill your FPS faster than you can say " Not Enough VRAM!" I guess so... just a wild curiosity, this curiosity making me making some stupid decision before, but never try never know right? youll hit GPU perf limit before hitting the VRAM limit |

QUOTE(terradrive @ Jan 26 2015, 09:42 PM) SMAA is different. I agree on this... For me SMAA is the best AA for now. Performance impact is just few percent like FXAA, but it looks really good. I have to say I prefer it over MSAA 4x, MSAA looked sharp. MSAA's performance impact may reach 15-30% Far Cry 4 with SMAA looked awesome. too bad Nvidia not really like SMAA... |

QUOTE(skylinelover @ Jan 27 2015, 09:58 AM) lel sap sap water I wish too, but concerning the potential astronomical power consumption, if i go for next gen, I don't think the card will be cheap plus a potential cost add-up of power supply unit will make the cost even higher. let say R9 390X cost RM2100 plus PSU at least need RM2700.but i rather waiting what 390X can do 2 fight back 4GB/8GB does not matter if times are great,,,i might hop back 2 the red camp again |

QUOTE(gogo2 @ Jan 27 2015, 06:33 PM) ooo.. so sad... I go click buy... then they cancel my order yeah. the only 8GB card in the world now are 290X (R9 295x2 are actually dual GPU card of two 290X, if i not mistaken Crossfired or Sli'ed card will not making effective VRAM double as both card need to have the required info input into both VRAM for maximum effect, so R9 295x2 are effectively 4GB card). Do you think 8GB card will make it more future proof? I realize that VRAM requirement of game recently has been increasing recently.I believe only 290X got 8GB. Unless I'm wrong... lol yeah, gonna go komtar this weekend... |

QUOTE(gogo2 @ Jan 27 2015, 06:46 PM) PS4/Xbox One is 8GB RAM. although most review telling me other wise that even 4K gaming will not make use of all 4GB VRAM, but my logic telling me otherwise. all the 8GB card review here show nothing like GPU and VRAM usage and i'm not sure if any scenario of 4GB VRAM being stressed. So yes, 8GB is the only gfx card that is future proof. I live in Penang unfortunately. Here people are very lauyah. One question to ask all pros here, what exactly will HBM impact on the actual performance of card as I'm not sure that current gen 512bit bandwidth has been 100% utilized. if 512bit GDDR5 are yet to be fully utilize, will HBM make any difference? like PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 debate, most result shows that the difference are minimal as most of the card around are not even fully utilize PCIe 2.0 let alone 3.0. Will the same logic applies to the momory bandwidth in GC? Penang Lang wor... Penang good, got LGE LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and most important , got very nice FOOD!!!!! |

QUOTE(llk @ Jan 27 2015, 07:13 PM) U may be right, thats why i still considering 290X lightning. even I havent completely ruled out GTX 980. My plan if I go for either 290X, since it is priced dirt cheap now, i buy one while invest some of my fund onto PSU making sure I wont be worried at my rig under powered in the future, then i make another upgrade after 2-3 years depend on game development. If i go for GTX 980, no need to upgrade my PSU all around, use it for more years only upgrade. This post has been edited by wongkoewei: Jan 27 2015, 07:26 PM |

QUOTE(llk @ Jan 27 2015, 08:42 PM) Everything is destined to be obsolete~ even buying 380X, it will be obsolete in 2 years time. of coz it depend on ones sense of 'outdate-ness', 290X maybe replace with newer and more capable model, but it doesn't mean it will simply 'outdated' by my mean, I guess it still perform as high end card for at least 2 years . just like HD 7970, it still lives and staying relatively relevant till today by the name of R9 280X, i guess still no one will say 280X are obsolete by now right? Yeah... they fend pretty good, I don't think their GPU are anyhow bottlenecking, but from what I observed, older card or cards with 2GB VRAM showing their 'age', if i can call that.
My experience, one time I deliberately set watch to highest setting, what i found was the VRAM are all filled up (1.9/2.0GB) but the GPU never over 40% usage, mostly hovering between 25 - 33% |
