Well.... looks like it's a Mahalo Ukulele for me then......
Great thread!!!!!
*
You can give a try on Malaysian made version of Ukulele. "SAPE" tongue.gif

If you wanna get the Mahalo Uke get the guitar shape types.
Don't buy the flying-v. Waste money only, unless you wanna collect lah.
If the Uke is not playable, you will feel frustrated and loss interest to carry on playing.
I hope you will enjoy it.

Anyway, if you know guitars. I think within a couple of hour
you shall be able to start struming along a simple song.
Ukulele are mean for simple learn and fun.
Alot people who know nothing about music note or chord
could pick up and play a few tune they like in a matter of days.
So have fun...struming the Ukulele.

Hope that help biggrin.gif

Beside George Harrison.
The most famous Uke player now is Jake Jake Shimabukuro. rclxms.gif
People called him Jimi Hendrix of Uke.
You can check out few of his video on YouTube or the link below.
See how his play "While my guitar gently weep"....mesmerizing. shocking.gif
Other than Jake, you can try James Hill and my personal favorite
"Craig Robertson". Craig got a website where he post alot of
his own mp3 recording. I love his "UKULELE" the dominos. (I wanna steal his Uke)

Pearl Jam -Binaural & Riot Act album,
Eddie Vedder have a Uke Song on each of it.
"Soon Forget" from Binaural is nice.
That the song which made me pick up an Ukulele and learn.
BTW...I'm a huge Pearl Jam fans.

Craig Robertson mp3:

Brook Adams audio pages:

For more video of Ukulele performance (Some are good some are bad): rclxub.gif

There are alot more good Uke site out there.
If you wanna know more, i post it for you. smile.gif

Jake have shown to the world that Uke is more than struming.
But since i been playing so long...i still suck even with struming.
I still very much a beginner.
I thought i will be better playing Uke than Guitars....but i' wrong
I sucks with both.....muahhhhhhh cry.gif

Jake's uke cost a bomb..more than my taylor...but he is a great player..he played together with Tommy Emmanuel before...You can get cheap ukulele at WOH FAT behind kotaraya in KL. If you want to find highend ones, the only way i see it now is getting off ebay. Maybe can try out chanbers music in Sungei Wang..

Thanks a lot, I'll check out Woh Fat. I don't need any high end ones as I just want to try it out and see if I'm interested.

I'm going to try to pick up playing the uke.. I play the guitar, btw. I think the uke is far cooler than the guitar which too common smile.gif. Can anyone of you share what brand and where you bought your uke from (in malaysia) and how satisfied are you with it? I'm a complete noob when it comes to buying the uke.
My budget is only RM100 - RM 200. Is this too low to get a decent uke?

Thanks. I bought the last UK50 on the shelves today from Harmony at RM130. They don't have any other models/brand.
Tuned it, sounds acceptable to me for that price! smile.gif

The label on my Samick UK50 says it's made in Indonesia. I'm satisfied with my UK50 (for now). Read some foreign forums reviews , they say that if strung with Aquila Nylgut Strings, it'll sound better.

im going to go cheap...two choices (http://www.ezfolk.com/forums/forum18/2025-1.html)

Now where can I get those strings locally.. hmm.... hmm.gif

Mahalo...is cheap....and it is very good to start wit for a beginner.
I nearly bought the samick too...it easy avaiable in KL.
But now...i own a FARIDA brand uke...solid maho uke...come with a case.

Later i post the pic for u guys...
For strings...i own 3types of strings... later i post up the pic.
Ukulele string, no need change often 1.
Jus change when i cut off...or else u wanna try new strings (keep the old ok) coz alot people never change the uke strings...
Their said, it sound better when the age's.

I never change my Mahalo strings for the last 6 years.
And my Farida has been the same for 2 years.
