isnt the recent slowdown is because of the broken cable in taiwan? But by now should be fixed right? What is the status of that?

QUOTE(nwk @ Apr 29 2007, 08:35 PM) This topic is dead because most of us have already subscribed to VPN. So no point in wasting time discussing it here. the topic is dead because it is pointless to discuss without practical conclusion/s - not because most of use have alrady subscribed to (pay or free) VPN. if most is on VPN that would (again) bog down tmnut's bandwidth and tmnut would counter by blocking VPN.it is my opinion that users should not be paying for vpn on top of streamyx bb charges - sort of ridiculous don't you think? if "most" have or are resigned to pay for VPN then could it be because vpn-payers have given up on "convincing" streamyx to change their bt-capping practices? this is probably because streamy/tmnut has a virtual monopoly on the bb market now and for at least 1-2 years (if wimax can get off the ground and compete for tmnut unhappy monoploized-customers). it is quite evident that tmnut has been preparing and is trying to tieup and pull in as much bb users - see their promos which are actually NOT worth while, like the extra 1rm for X months but "regular" prices later, or the "free" computer offer) free secureix is pretty much stuffed now because of too many users and also capped speed of 20-25k, while is better than "nothing", is quite slow and in addition of too many disconnections (every few minutes) from free secureix servers. it is my opinion that "most" tmnut customers do not know what a vpn is let alone pay good money use one. the ones "driven" to paying vpn are probably few (hundreds?) high-bandwidth users doing mainly bt. maybe it is *cheaper* per bt download with vpn because is faster (i guess vpn needs to be 2X or more faster than "capped" tmnut bb to be worthwhile) even if this is true you are still paying more than what you "should" (refer 'world is your oyster' promises when you sign for streamyx with tmnut) have to. |

They can't cap VPNs, many large/medium sized companies actually rely on VPN's to secure their roadwarriors and offsite links. There are plenty of legitimate uses for VPNs and they'd be a huge uproar from the corporate sector if there was a capping of it. it is my opinion that users should not be paying for vpn on top of streamyx bb charges - sort of ridiculous don't you think? Treat it as a premium then, you can still download torrents w/o it, albeit at a slower speed or from local trackers I.e. Mytforum or you could subscribe for a VPN service and just download from any Tom d*** and harry torrent site. Anyway, torrent throttling is nothing new, its implemented in quite a few countries around the world anyway. |

Do you seriously think TMnut has the balls to cap VPN? They will be sued to high heaven by all their corporate clients who use VPN. Did you think we didn't complain to TMnut when they first started their farking throttling last year? We did and nothing came out of it. Why? Because nobody got the balls to go to Menara TM to start a mass protest and burn effigies of their CEO and TMnut logos. So the next best thing we could do was to use VPN. We don't like to pay more then we already paid but like DS said, we treat it as a premium.Treat it as a premium then, you can still download torrents w/o it, albeit at a slower speed or from local trackers I.e.
