QUOTE(camillenoir @ Dec 22 2007, 09:25 PM) question: do they eat the green (bitter) pellets? isn't anyone a little bit curious as how exactly Camillenoir knows the taste of the pellets? haha. i'm not sure why sera did that (put in some extremely bitter pellets instead of mixing small quantities of the bitter ingredients into 'normal' pellets) but most tortoises will avoid the green ones. if any of the important nutrients is contained exclusively in the bitter pellets, the diet would be imbalanced then. QUOTE(inexsis @ Dec 22 2007, 11:45 PM) about the spectrum light, do we need a special spectrum light holder u can also DIY the lamps. here are some examples of mineor we can buy the normal kalimantan light holder ? only the bulb we need to buy the exxoterra bulb right ? (very expensive bulb) DIY light holders QUOTE(SAMPERTH @ Dec 24 2007, 08:28 AM) QUOTE(andrewnib @ Dec 24 2007, 10:31 AM) Yah . .i got to agree with that . . from personal experience, a planted fish aquarium still beats reptile keeping. reptile keeping is most expensive on the animal itself. others like food, enclosure, lights, etc has cheaper alternatives. my initial setup for my 2 1/2 feet planted aquarium is way over RM1K. that does not include maintenance (fertilizer, lights, etc). hoho.. but still doesn't beat the satisaction la heheDepends on the type of the tortoise you are getting, some of the price might burnt your wallet when you first buying it but if think back and compared to othier type of pet, i think it is cheap. The food we are buying for tortoise is cheap, say you can get a bunch of Sawi for RM1 and can last for a week. For fish, keeping, we have to travel up and down to get live food for fries and adults. . .take into consideration about the milleage and time, also compare to the care, tortoise consider need a minimum care, as long as the temparature and food is right, they do well with it . . For fish, we got to watch out the water condition and change water every now and then. . . So tortoise keeping is cheaper and easier i guess.... But anyway, at the end, it's all back to our satisfaction . . . QUOTE(inexsis @ Dec 24 2007, 12:17 PM) 1. 2ft tank do you mean the basking lamp holder or the bulb itself? for bulb you can just buy the cheap ones (phillips, osram, etc). for the lamp holder you can just DIY. buy a ceramic socket, buy a bowl reflector (or make your own reflector) and walla, a lamp holder. for the clipping part, you need to be a lil bit creative.2. bedding (recycled paper pellet n wood chips) 3. food dish 4. hygrometer n termometer 5. carapace care RM150++ still need to buy 1. basking lamp (too hard to find. most store already out of stock 2. spectrum light + holder 3. vitamin RM150++ But......still no Star tortoise.......... waiting for uzairi to have new stock kamon uzairi kamon !!!!!!!!!!!! mayb my overall cost is nearly RM600 ouh YTN~~~~ where are u~~~~ i need u~~~~ specturm light no alternative. but the holder can DIY too. see my link above vitamins not that expensive. below rm30 only your total cost might not even reach RM100!! any breeding projects involving her and me would only produce 'camillettiere'
speaking of those babies, i suspect that they are indeed more carnivorous than vegan (a valid reason for any personable chelonian with that kind of temperament to reject bananas and tomatoes is they do not recognize fruits as food item). mealworms and prawns should be fine. the only problem is i'm still stuck at client's place this very moment and couldn't go shop for those food items. |
